Interesting to see the dragonglass show up again. When they discovered it last season it seemed like a pretty big deal and then they never mentioned it again. Given that they actually do show it and bring it up, it's clear it's important. Given that it was buried north of the wall, it's probably good at taking down the white walkers.

When the witch said Arya was going to shut their eyes for good, I take it we're meant to think it's Joffrey, Cersie and Tywin she was talking about. Any one know if their eye colours match up to what she said? It could be a red herring and Arya actually kills a bunch of other people instead.

All 3 of those have blue eyes

I thought Lena Headley had green or brown eyes.

What I was thinking at that scene was she may know about Arya's future killings alrite. However I couldn't help but feel that this may have something to do with Jaquen offering her to become a faceless assassin, so she may go down that road...

Her litany of enemies, afair are Joffery (blue eyes) Cersei (blue eyes) Ser Ilyn Payne (green eyes) Ser Meryn (brown eyes) and the Hound (brown eyes). I think she will make it her life's mission to hunt them down and kill them.

Jon reminds me of a woman in an abusive relationship taking that sh1t and convincing himself he loves her.

Excellent little to and fro between Varys and Baelish. You really get that Varys has a sense of dread. I came out of it wondering is Baelish something supernatural such was his fear.

... dragonglass... Given that it was buried north of the wall, it's probably good at taking down the white walkers.

Could be a good call that. Fire vs ice.

Cracking episode. So much going on, where to begin...

Loved the bit when Tyrion had to tell Sansa the news with Shae (sp?) in the room.... "awkward" :) Looking forward to seeing the fallout from that.

Joeffrey... his lack of screen time recently makes you forget just what an evil pr*ck he really is. That was pretty shocking. Great monologue leading to it from LittleFinger too. He's really up'ed his "evil" ranking in the past while. His transition from sly manipulator to evil masterplanner (...or rather, his reveal, when you consider he's probably been this evil all along) was superb. Really sheds a new light on his relationship with Vary's.

Nice to see Tyrion and Cersei unite under a common "enemy" and to finally reveal that it was Joeffrey, the idiot, who tried to have Tyrion killed. I feel that Joeffrey's time may be running out... possibly in some end of season drama... though there is a lot of story left in this Tyrell plot so maybe he'll hang on for another while. Who knows!

North of the wall was where we got our action kick. The climbing of the wall was quiet intense and looked great. The final shot on top of it was epic too. Nice to have a happy ending to an episode for once :)

The Lord of Light stuff still doesn't hold much interest in me. Hopefully that changes because it's becoming a bigger part of the story each week. I assume Gendry will live. I think the witch would have told him straight up if he was going to die. I think he's going to be a badass. It was clear early on that he was destined for more than just being an ironsmith. Actually, his involvement with the Lord of Light story has made it more interesting. He is a blood heir to the throne. How will Stannis feel about that.

And in between all that there were loads of great scenes... Sansa still not having a clue about Loras, Arya training with a bow, the continued torture of Theon (that was f*ckin gross btw ), Tywin and Oleyna talking business.

    Top, top episode.

I be thinking along this line too.

As for the Dragonglass, unless i missed something, would it be possible that by having that Sam was spared death by the White Walkers at the end of Season 2? There was no explanation that i can remember as to why they walked by him, but having the Dragonglass could be a deterrent to them.

Poor Ros, they could have given her a bit more of a sendoff, I know she's a tv show only character but she's been in a lot of episodes so was weird seeing her dead with no reason for it.

No Dany this week, I kinda like that though instead of trying to cram everyone into every episode, granny Tyrell is hilarious I hope she sticks around. the "casual buggery" line made me bust out laughing.

She was dead because Pete Baelish found out about her playing two sides, in cahoots with Varys, so Pete lad gave her to Joffery for some crossbow practice.

Didn't a White Walker attack him at the very start of this season? It didn't seem to stop him :pac:

Great episode again for all the reasons mentioned above. I'm becoming disillusioned with Robb at this point. His whole storyline just seems to be going nowhere. He was rightly fúcked if Edmure had stuck to his guns and wanted to choose who he was to marry himself, like Robb. Roose Bolton stole the show in terms of the Northern Lords this week. He's a cagey guy. I'm starting to like him. Robb could do with a bit more of that sort of cop on I think.

Mellisander and Arya was just the most brilliant scene. The actress playing Mellissandre deserves an award for that scene. She was so captivating and charismatic. I think I'm actually a bit scared of her now.

One thing I don't get so far is why Jon, Ygritte and the rest are climbing over the wall. It's not like they're bringing an army so I don't really get what their motivation is. It made for some brilliant scenes though.

Granny & Tywin were great, as was the Tyrion/Cersei pairing and Varys/Baelish. Oh my god, Sansa, will she ever learn? I'm reading book 1 at the moment, just almost finished and I do feel incredibly sorry for her at what she's suffering at the hands of Joffrey but, just like watching the show at the time, I figured she'd have to wise up eventually and start plotting to look out for herself. Tyrion isn't perfect but, for all his faults, he's decent when it comes to Sansa and the whole idea of the match was as repulsive to him as it was to Sansa. One of the things I like about Tyrion is that he always seemed like the moral conscience of the Lannisters. He might like whoring and drinking but, that aside, he's a fair enough guy. She'll do better with him than anybody else. The whole scene with Sansa and Loras was painful. I'd say if he put up a big sign saying 'Not interested', she'd have still fawned over him. How much more obvious did he have to make it. Stupid girl!

On the other hand, I'm expecting lots more Dany and the Dragons next week. Now that's a girl who knows how to look after herself. Sansa could learn a whole heap there!

I think two things were obvious from this episode.

First, they are putting a lot of emphasis on Frey and the marriage fiasco. I feel there is something up - either Rob's uncle (cant remember his name) will decide not to go through with the wedding and the frey's will get pissed off and Rob will have half an army (or worst if they side with the Lannisters, unlikely though) OR the Frey's are already pissed off due to Rob's marriage. I just can't see the whole marriage promise going without being punished.

Also, politics in Kings Landing are getting very complex and I wouldn't rule out some type of plot by the Tyrells. They have backed the Lannisters heavily but I just don't trust them nor do I trust Geoffrey to go ahead with his own wedding - his not as stupid as people make out and if he discovers a plot he's likely to go mental and kill everyone.

Wasn't there some sort of plan to set a big fire where they were going to open the gates? So, the rest of the wildlings are waiting for the signal to move.

Book reader lurking, wanted to just say It's Joffrey, not Geoffrey. It's just a personal annoyance.

Can't believe there's only 3 episodes left :( feels like its just getting going, really wish they'd bump it to 13 episodes next year for a bit of breathing room.

    I have good news, there's 4 episodes left. Episode 7, 8, 9 and 10.

    Valar Dohaeris

I raised it in the thread about the last episode too. Last season I found Dany's storyline very boring. This season it's Robb's. I really think that idiot Edmure is going to get him into trouble. I certainly wouldn't like to be relying on him.

I thought last night was a poor enough episode, with the exception of Tywin and Granny Tyrell and the ending. Found the wall parts very boring and the opening scene with the girl from Skins and Sam was just, well, odd.

Sansa is a character that you love to hate. She's just so stupid it isn't right. You'd never think her and Arya were sisters.

Here's hoping Dany and the dragons return for a bit of excitement next week.

yeah you'd really think Sansa would have some cop on by now, but its still all weddings and princes with her, wake up you dope. Arya is the best character in the show by far, Tyrion a close second.

When Loras Tyrell was talking about broaches and pins, all I could think of was Eoin McLove's Cake Jumper...

I can't be the only one, right?

Man... poor Ros. Thought she was a great background character.

Great episode. Like others said, Granny Tyrell and Tywin were brilliant, as were the scenes with Arya, Mellisandra, Thoros and Beric, the Varys and Littlefinger scene, and the Tyrion and Cersei scene. Was sure she ordered the hit on Tyrion, but does make sense for it to be Joffrey too.

A great episode. One where really f*ck all happens, but it's still really well done. Only downside was Bran's story (Theon's is more intriguing than annoying, because I have no idea what's going on, but Bran's is just annoying because I don't care what's going on with him). They really need to actually do something with him by the end of the season or early next season because it's just slowly plodding along like Hodor.

I'm surprised Jon Snow didn't chop is head off as soon as they got to the top.

It seems unlikely to me that the Tyrells will go through with this royal marriage at the moment. They already know jeoffrey is a bit of a sicko but if they find out what he did to that hooker theres gonna be trouble.

Are you kidding? The only real reason the Tyrells put themselves in the firing line of the war post-Renly was to make a play for the throne with Magdery. She has Joffrey wrapped around her finger - why would the Tyrells have any reason to recant? Joffrey is a basket case but he knows enough not to kill his wife.

Agreed. The Tyrells are pragmatic. They seem to care more about appearances than actual morals- Margery was already married to someone she knew was gay and riding her brother and was even willing to let her brother get him started so he could impregnate her. They are also extremely manipulative and ambitious. Loras was the one who prompted Renley to make a play for the throne. I don't think that the Tyrells give a monkeys what Joffery does to whom as long as Margery is able to twist him round her little finger.

As annoying and "stupid" as she seems, people need to remember that Sansa is a 13/14 year old girl. Bow and Arrow wielding badasses like Arya are not typical young girls ( especially in the case of highborn ladies). All Sansa has ever wanted was a nice wedding and a good looking husband.

Good episode. The torture scene is strange as it seems to have nothing to do with the story at all.

It seems like Jon is being slowly built up to be the major player in the story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

Honestly with how clear the depth and blinkered nature of Arya's hatred has became this season it's made me think twice about how much I like her as a character.

She's arrogant and prone to lashing out. It makes sense but I can't say I like as much as I used to.

On Jon - what if he remains with the wildlings and brokers their support for Rob in the war in exchange for lands? If Rob doesnt make a deal they'll overrun the North anyways and surely Robb would be eager to change the balance of the war. There's plenty of possibilities for an alliance if Jon doesn't do something stupid like stay loyal to the few dozen Night's Watch left serving on the Wall.

That said, we are talking about a Stark.

On the Arya being less likable, I think it's a good thing. Its realistic. Her life is gone to sh1t and she was too small to do anything about it. Of course she'd lash out at those around her. I think she will get more bitter and full of hate as the show goes on.

But I'd love her to get in touch with Jaqen H'ghar and put her anger to good use.
