bayticol isnt an injections, its a pour on.

and yes, its the best there is imo.

used it on this farm for 20+ years, very few cases of red water .

some people use it twice/3 times a year.

but ive found on my farm, middle of may, and that does it.

there all out now, so ill bring them in and pass them trough the shoot when we are promised a dry spell, then let them out.

i think over years the benefit is gained

a vet told me, the bayticol makes the tick infertile, so the ticks around my farm are long gone. . .

he said you dad was the first man i ever seen with bayticol and it certainly works. no red water here for 10+ years, honest truth on the matter.

Thanks for your reply. Thats inline with everything I am hearing. Looks like its available in both pouron and injection. Pouron is 15% cheaper.

Use bayticol at turnout every year pricey but it's the best to use.every six to eight weeks they get a dose of youngs poron.
Prevention is better than cure they can go down fairly rapid if not spotted early. As I work of farm I can't take a chance

Not certain but think it's only 5 days for beef and 10 days for milk.

That's right, definitely preferable to the seven month withdrawal period of imizol although I realise I'm not comparing like with like.

Were those cases in bought in cattle which hadn't been on the ground where they picked up the ticks before?

Ticks will do a suck calf no harm other than making them immune to picking up redwater later on in life.

So by the by the reading of the online instructions its 2ml for every 10KG.

So a 300kg weanling would need 60ml applied.

I have 20 for doing

I've heard it said that pig slurry helps to get rid of ticks, I wonder is there any truth to this?

Certainly helps to get rid of anyone that might go finding ticks.........:)

I suppose this applies to everything but it's definitely worth shopping around for best prices on Bayticol. €29 difference for 1 litre pack from cheapest to dearest when I got mine last week.

Wasn't it €100 for a 1litre bottle from Agridirect? Got an email about it but we've half a litre left here.

Yes, that's the best online value. I paid €99 locally for it with the same thing priced at €128 across town.

Yeah, 100 euro online was the best I can get with agridirect.

There doesnt appear to be a 500 litre or smaller option anywhere. If I am to give them the required 60ml then I'll need another 300ml.

Its only good for 9 months once opened, or so they say

If you are using bayticol to help prevent redwater you'll need to apply it every six weeks afaik.

    Always read the small print...

    2ml per kg for mange

    1ml per kg for ticks

    Sorted

    Hi all
I was hoping to wean this week and let my cows off to rough grazing which contains red water ticks which isn't ideal but I'm short on grazing
My question what's the latest time of the year to get red water
Also I'm going to use bayticol when I let them out
    Am I coverd enough

I injected them all 3 months ago with imozol..- probably not effective now?

I reckon cattle can get redwater at any time of the year but it's more likely to happen in the summer months when there's a lot more ticks about.
If you give them the Bayticol a week before you move the cows they should be ok and every six weeks after that..
I'm not sure that Imizol works as a preventative, but not certain about this. Don't forget it has a 213 day withdrawal period.

Edit. Was just talking to a man who was in the vets office this morning, there was a few cases of redwater over the weekend and lots of pnuemonia so better be safe than sorry.

It was the imizol that cured the cow, the rest of the stuff she got had nothing to do with it.

Yeah and the 236 day withdrawal period.Or is it 214 days not sure.
Bayticol bayticol and more bayticol use it here always on new stock which reminds me must dose them during the week what a Cnut of a job gathering them up will be.

Especially seeing as the levels of Iron in modern Guinness is negligible compared with years ago. The lads in Fermanagh used to love giving cows Guinness all the same and couldn't convince them it wasn't what cured the cow!
