Graeme McDowell leads the way in the Corales Puntacana Championship on 18 under par in the Dominican Republic. A win for GMac will get him a 2 year exemption on the PGA Tour. He leads by one with 12 holes to go. Paul Dunne also playing well, with the Greystones man at 14 under with 10 to play. Looking good to qualify for Texas next week for Dunners, providing he remains in the top 10.

On a separate note, not one mention of McDowell, Dunne or Leona Maguire's great performance on the Symetra Tour, on the Six One News this evening on RTE. The national broadcaster is quite simply a rag of a station, that's for sure when it comes to the promotion of golf and other sports outside of the likes of GAA, Soccer and Rugby.

Would much prefer to watch this rather than the match play.

Top 10 get Dunne in next week if he doesn’t already have an invite?

Don’t think Kuchar should have conceded a hole but he definitely went looking to win that hole by getting the ref involved.

García made a mistake which he accepts but Kuchar was a cl*wn

Do we know that it was Kuchar who got the ref involved? There's a rules official with every match.

That's correct remind me re Dunne. McDowell now 19 under, still one in front with 11 holes remaining of his final round. Great scoring so far. 20 putts in Round 3 for Graeme.

Kisner is some grinder, surprised he didn't make the Ryder cup team last year

Yeap he said it in the press conference last night. He approached the ref because he said he didn’t concede the putt. Only reason he went to the ref was to claim the hole. Kuchar said he went to the ref because ‘he didn’t know what to do’

IF he wanted the hole grow some balls and say it to Sergio. If he had cop on which he clearly doesn’t, just get on with the game.

    Haha.

Soccer, rugby and anything elsr barely get a look in. Its GAA all the way; been their policy for years. Nothing is allowed get in the way of Brian Carty howling about some game or other.

I hope Kisner hammers Kuchar tonight.

There are discussions to reformat the tournament and have the final couple of days as the 16 best players after the groups stages in 2 days of strokeplay.

Obviously that would be awful as it's a matchplay tournament and there should be a WGC match play event but the pairings today and tonight show you why there will be some change as you can expect the ratings for todays golf will be dreadful in america (and on sky) due to non of the big names being on the course. I think maybe having in the consolation finals all the way up to 15th/16th place (like some events in the Olympics have) with extra money and ranking points on offer will result in their being more action to broadcast and some big names play on all days of the tournament on the final day.

Matchplay first, strokeplay second would be horrendous. If they are going down that type of route at least have it the other way around, like a lot of the big amateur events here.

The reason it didn't get mention is because nobody cares about McDowell and Dunne playing in a second rate tournament or in Leona Maguire playing in the second division of the LPGA tour.

The National League Finals in both football and hurling were on today which is a much much bigger sports story in this country than either of those golf events.

There's enough time to report on them all.

Does that get him into the Open?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

wont get him in the open and he's 250 in the world. Probably move up to around the 130 mark. $540k and a 2 year exemption on the US Tour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Golfhead65

Does that get him into the Open?

Unfortunately not, gets him 2 year pga exe ption (rest of this year and next)A spot in Hawaii champions The Players and PGA championship but I cannot see him not getting a special invite to The Ooen now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭RikkFlair

He will have a few more chances to qualify for the Open but he needs another win I'd say if he wants to qualify via the OWGR.

'Special invite'? Don't think those exist to The Open.

    Kisner very solid

Great to see Gmac winning again, clutch player but I always felt he was underrated compared to the likes of Poulter etc. He's been quiet for too long.

its pathetic alright, i though they had both faded out and finished down the leader boards.
    great results

The reason it didn't get mention is because nobody cares about McDowell and Dunne playing in a second rate tournament or in Leona Maguire playing in the second division of the LPGA tour.
That PGA tour event isn't second rate. There was a much better field than you'll get in an average European tour event.
The National League Finals in both football and hurling were on today which is a much much bigger sports story in this country than either of those golf events.
That doesn't mean that Irish sports people abroad shouldn't get a mention.
