You could hardly call a Saab 95 a rocket

There's loads of folk on here calling their pathetic diesel cars rockets. Maybe we should let them keep their belief in Santa. And yeah, you're right, the petrol turbo Saab 9-5 ain't no rocket either.

Lads, re that S type. Would I be correct in saying the 4.0 V8 model was called the S Type R?

No, that was the supercharged v8, the n/a v8 was not branded as the "R"

Basically a mondeo is about right, presented in a nicer package if that floats your boat.

Supercharged or R version was 4.2 AFAIK ?

I get the impression they aren't anything spectacular then :p
Still saving up so I'm floating some ideas around but if I manage I'll be looking a 159 2.4 Ti from the UK.
    Time will tell

Correct, if my memory of the Top Gear episode was correct :D
Nice bus, the S type R imo.
Rare enough and Q car looks.

Considering the Mondy is one of the best cars out there, it's no bat thing ;)

    Does this count as bangernomics?

1973 Daimler Sovereign, 2.8 lire, NCT exempt, classic tax, €1250

Admittedly not the most desirable engine, but vintage tax and insurance and NCT exemption are real bonuses. Ad claims the bodywork is good too.

Relax dude that part of my post was nothing but a rant :)

Fair enough unkel I probably over-reacted a bit but I do sometimes get a wee bit annoyed when someone spouts out a figure like 95% or 99% to make a point or to suit their side of the debate, when that figure is a fair shot off the mark.

I believed your points were flawed and without basis, hence why I decided to pull you up on them. Wasn't my intention to come across as irate or condescending

That aside I would be interested if someone could pull up real figures about engine size in private cars. As a guess I'd say that 99% of private cars sold on or after 01/01/2008 have engines smaller than 2l

    Makes me sad frown.png

    http://www.beepbeep.ie/stats/

I just looked at 2012 there. There was a total of 79,574 passenger units sold in that year. Of them 4,271 were over 2,000 cc so that works out at circa 6% of new car sales that year. I would suggest the figure is most likely fairly representative of the the total since 1/1/08. Get results of total sales and then tick all boxes from 2001 cc upwards to return figure for them engine sizes.

It would make you a wee bit sad maybe but you could see both sides of the coin too. I know were mostly motoring enthusaists here but not everyone buying cars is. Can all motoring enthusaists even afford larger engined cars? People are already so much streched and the govt have made owning cars over 2000cc so unaffordable (some under for that matter) People need to buy clothes, education, food, housing, pets, holidays etc etc too

I suppose at the end of the day most new car sales are diesels anyway so who cares what engine size they are

Hm, I can't see anything in the photos that stands out. Sills, arches, doors look spotless. The only thing I can see is the surface rust forming on the bumper but its more like a light haze than anything else.

There is rust on both sills and the rear valence. The under bonnet pic reveals rust on the wings too. It could be surface rust but I'd eat my fist if the jacking points, box sections and floors aren't riddled with tin worm. The car shows no signs of being looked after either. These Jags are notorious for tin worm and given issues if not fastidiously maintained. I'd guarantee that car is a parts car only. Even if it was just surface rust you'll have to respray it properly with will cost a bomb in man hours.

Hmm, I must be going blind.

Belongs in the fixer upper thread then, I guess.

I suppose you're right. Which makes things even worse. Nearly no cars over 2l and over 4 cylinders and the ones that are, are generally diesels. Where's that shotgun?
