Tonight With Vincent Browne Thread v3.0 (07/04/13 - 08/07/14)

Tomorrow night, the Tonight with Vincent Browne programme will be broadcast from a brand new HD studio so it seems like a good time to start a new thread, the old thread had almost hit 10,000 posts anyway.

The new HD studio will allow Vincent to invite an audience to participate in the show occasionally, he also promises that the new technology will mean that the newspaper preview will be significantly better than before. (Personally, I feel the only thing wrong with the newspaper preview is that Vincent doesn't leave enough time for a proper preview of the papers :D).

Any set/studio would be better than the current chromakey one. The show often looks like a TY project.

The new studio sounds impressive. Smart move by TV3. Could be a nice earner for them.

I wish them the best of luck with it.

I'm not sure a new studio is the answer, I think the show's format needs to be updated a bit... And get Cassie back from Canada ffs..

I think it's safe to assume that we'll have a Margaret Thatcher special this evening.
    Ex-Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher dies

Former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died at 87 following a stroke, her spokesman has said.

Lord Bell said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning."

Baroness Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990.

    Good stuff!

Should be a good discussion tonight on Thatcherism.

Hopefully Mario will make an appearance in the new Sony HD studio.

Would love to see the actual tweets and texts that will be sent in on Maggie Thatcher tonight. I'd say there would be choice language in those.

Hopefully Mario will make an appearance in the new Sony HD studio.
Unfortunately, that's not going to happen, Mario turned his back on TV3 to work for RTE last year.

    Forgot about that.

Thought he was better on TV3. The shorter clips suited him, rather than trying to fill a 30 mins show for a few weeks with new material.

Is it just me or does not broadcasting in HD make a HD studio fecking worthless.

Is this meant to be broadcast in HD? I don't notice much difference in the picture quality.

    VB in HD

Very little difference with the studio tbh.
A load of old fogies talking about Thatcher.
Don't think i'm too interested in this.

He recorded a programme a couple of weeks ago with a studio audience but it has yet to be aired.

Mansergh is always good for a laugh.

How in the..? I definitely saw this studio before (maybe with Sam Smyth in the hotseat)

Can't see the big deal, that's the problem, my tv is still saying it's 576i SD as broadcast quality - a long way from 1080i or p !

No it's in SD, TV3 only broadcast in SD but they now have a HD studio which then has the HD pictures downgraded to SD to be broadcast, it's like something out of Father Ted.

I was thinking the same. I'm almost certain that they randomly did a show in the new studio a few weeks ago, and then (inexplicably) returned to the old one the next day.

About 50% of people are women, why do they not vote for their own?

There isn't enough women to vote for?

    Thatcher was certainly no feminist.

Right, I think I've gotten to the bottom of things. On March 21st last, Sam Smyth stood in for Vincent but on the same evening Vincent recorded a separate programme in the new HD studio. The programme was not broadcast on TV but was put up on the TV3 player. Mario even made an appearance :)

There isn't enough women to vote for?

    Thatcher was certainly no feminist.

If women voted for women, then there would be a very good chance that any woman who runs as a candidate for a major party would always be elected. This doesn't happen. Deirdre Clune lost her seat in Cork South Central last time. If the women of Cork South Central came out and voted for her, she'd have topped the poll.

Why can't men vote for women?

I really don't understand your simplistic view. It's far more complicated.

I voted for a woman at the last general election, not because she was a woman, but because she was a candidate who I had respect for. The fact that she was a woman was incidental.
You're the one with the simplistic view, not me.
