For TV i would go for Samsung or LG....but get the best price/performance ratio you can get. RESEARCH!....loads of forums out there dedicatd to tvs.

There are excellent bargins out there, like lasts year high end tvs drastically reduced. Just take your time and then make the best decision you can

I have personally found that Panasonics have also given excellent performance for their prices too.

Spent a night researching and came full circle back to the 42 inch Panny. Avforums gave it a glowing recommendation too but just reconfirmed the bad points, lower res and quickly going to go out of date.
It seems to be the best option at that price range for what I want it to do. Plan on dropping big money for a 4k when they hit so for the time being I'm gonna jump on the deal in PC world. €50 cheaper and can just collect and bring home today :)

what about the reverse situation where you want pc game on a tv, how does it stack up compared to a proper computer monitor?

As far as CRTs go, the Sony Trinitron KV-29X5L 29 is amazing. Monster flat 29 inch 4:3 screen that gives an amazing image. I'd get rid of all of my new TV tech before getting rid of that.

Real cream of the crop with CRTs is the Sony PVM line. They're studio quality CRTs and really made to last. Picture is insanely good.

No lag on any of the above ... ;)

    Best CRT ever made!...Sony widescreen 24" FW900!.....

Personally I find playing PC games on anything over 27 inch annoying. I could be alone in that thinking this though. In a perfect world I'd have a serious PC/Fighting game monitor 26 inches big or so, a separate 42-50 inch workhorse for the sitting room and a nice flat screen 4:3 Trinitron CRT in the back room :D

I have a HTPC in my living room that handles everything - movies , tv etc , and I also use it for gaming with an Xbox wireless controller :)

I play my controller compatible games in my living room on the tv and much prefer it to using my 22" monitor that's hooked up to my desktop .

Steam Big Picture mode + big screen + decent surround sound from an av receiver = WIN :)

Sorry for completely taking over the thread but I'm going bat **** mental trying to decide which TV to buy O_o All the research in the world isn't helping me as I just keep going in circles. Choice in LCDs over 50hz seems limited., choice in good plasmas even more so.

    http://www.soundstore.ie/Product/Panasonic-TXP42X60-42-600Hz-HD-Plasma/4016/2220.0.3
€450 (price match with pc world), 720p, Plasma. 42 inch

    http://www.soundstore.ie/Product/Samsung-UE39F5000-39-Slim-FHD-100Hz-LED-TV/3993/2220.0.3
    €529 1080p, LED LCD 39 inch.

    http://www.soundstore.ie/Product/Samsung-UE32F5500-32-Smart-WiFi-FHD-LED-TV/3992/2220.0.2
€480 1080p, LED LCD Smart Tv 32 inch

From what I've read, all of the above have input lag virtually identical (23-35 ms) but I could be wrong. I'm sitting on average over 8 foot from the telly so 720/1080 shouldn't* make a difference. I was originally going for the plasma but Image retention has me worried especially with the amount time spent on older games or games with static images (super metriod/Street Fighter 4 etc) and the housemates addiction to sky sports news.. With PS4/XB1 on the way am I being stupid buying a 720p telly?? Would the plasma be better for the wii, snes, gamecube, ps2 etc??

Any advice would be awesomesauce guys :D I'm locked down to soundstore and to my approx €500 limit (give or take 50). I'm to collect the 42 panny on tuesday but can still change my order at any time :) I've accepted my chances of getting a lag free Full HD tv over 32 inches in that price range is out of reach so I'm hoping to make the right choice. Flip a coin?
