    From thejournal.ie:
THE IRISH WILDLIFE Trust (IWT) has called on the public to help change the new Animal Health and Welfare Bill that will be debated in the Dáil on Wednesday. Independent TDs Maureen O’Sullivan and Clare Daly are set to challenge the bill and propose that exemptions for fox hunting and hare coursing be removed.

IWT today urged the public to contact their local TDs, asking them to support this proposal ahead of the debate.

    ...continued

And the usual fun is being had in the journal's comments section again.

Some of the comments really crack me up, they are just so blinkered and have chosen to ignore the facts and figures linked.

We can't lose when we have someone called 'Dick Power' as our spokesman.

Bernie Wright had quite a pop there...
We pose the question-just how many depraved humans are walking the streets free from prosecution having mutilated, tortured and killed defenceless animals.
The RED FOX seems to be the latest main target as we hear sick thugs tortured and hanged yet another young fox from a tree directly opposite a busy bus stop in Cork.
    ...
Fox hunters ... will blood hounds on young fox cubs and dig out foxes for fun as killing wildlife is all they can understand
    ...
It is our moral duty to protect the weak from sociopaths and depraved individuals. Do you think animals care if those hurting them are doing so with a licence from the Department of Agriculture or not.

Yep, she must have deleted it unless the Journal moderated it?

John Fitzgerald is staying away, he must find comments about his history uncomfortable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

I'd reported it as being a bit defamatory, I guess it was moderated away.

    The double standards is staggering.

We get (or more to the point Sparks get) lashed for using the word extremist when it's more than appropriate, yet they can openly call us nutters, etc. and only act when the point is pushed.

It's like having an anti as a hunting mod.

See how in only a few posts they managed to drag hunting into that. it has nothing to do with hunting, it wasn't even mentioned in the original article ffs!!

I remember a time when hunters worked hand-in-hand with IWT.

They have dirtied their bib IMHO.

I don't recommend any hunters work with them again.

Re the comments. Make sure you have them listed by date and not popularity as I thought a couple of mine had gone until I realised.

i cant comment because I dont use firefox or chrome.

j Fitzgerald says its not defamatory to comapare a legal "bloodsport" with an illegal one.

So that means its not defamatory to compare my driving with that of a drunk.

One thing Ireland is very strong on is your constitutional right to your good name.

Actually that's just a feed on the build.ie site, for a moment I thought they had put it up themselves.

I see J Fitzgerald tried to defend saying it it not defamatory to compare an illegal sport with a prohibited one.

He must think Clare daly has got something passed in the Dail?

He has, in fact, been comparing illegal activities with legal ones.

    This one?

So John of the hunt sabs association. Are you still in contact with the group ALF? Would you like to tell the public about some of your so called associates and the illegal activities they have been involved in. I see there that you are friends with the woman spearheading the campaign against a school of 25 kids in England. So you like to associate with groups that send death threats to schools?

That Peasenhall protest is lowest of the low IMHO. No parent could condone this behaviour, unless suffering PTSD or just nuts.

Bernie Wright posting there now as well.

Funny that after all the hullaballoo, when the report stage opened on the animal welfare bill today, this was the scene in the dail:

    246768.png

No sign of the opposition or the independents, just the Minister involved. They had to hold up for several minutes waiting for them.

When will the outcome be made public?

Interesting to hear the Minister speaking though when a ban on fur farming was called for - it boiled down to "it's not my cup of tea, but there's a long walk between there and banning something that people earn their living off, and it's not deliberately cruel, it's a farming practice".

It really did have the character of daddy sitting down and explaining how the world works to a child...

Ok my browser is letting me comment on and off- anyway, just been back to breakingnews.ie and I have never seen so many "this comment has been removed" quotes.

    Warzone.

Sean Public keeping well clear of this one - descending into a joke.

Comments aren't going straight up either, being moderated. My last response to John hasn't appeared and it's well over an hour, and its innocuous.
Methinks they run to the mods when the heat rises:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,301 ✭✭✭yubabill1

Now all my comments have returned - mod must have done thier homework. And the comments were on topic - hare coursing and JF's numerous arrests for interfering with same.

Poor old John isnt doing well at all there tonight:p.Bernie has retired from the affray, and no others of the "overwhelming anti bloodsports people of Ireland ." [IOW their 40 or so hangers on] have come to their aid either...:D

I think we hit the JF magazine - his weak spot is intellectual pride.

He's withdrawn a misnomer he made "defend the defensible" when I pulled him up on it.

I think perhaps easing up on the throttle there might be a good thing - that page as it stands is a neat and tidy summation of the worth of their position; at this point, were I them, I would be searching desperately for any excuse to yell defamation and pull the whole page...

It would be amusing if we were to line up across the road from them and photograph en masse.

I hope to do the innocent passerby bit first, if i can get away with it we might get a photo of some of them frothing at the mouth :)

A shame :( A wide-angle photo showing the full size of the crowd (as opposed to a zoomed-in, cropped photo of a subset of the crowd) would make size estimation a lot easier....
