With the level of growth we have at the moment who knows :D Mcpa stunts the grass more so the killing it even when it turns yellow from my experience.
Yeah that's why I went for the mcpa instead of roundup, read on other threads that mcpa stunts the growth a bit but better that than killing it with roundup. Have plenty of rushes around so must try get a weed licker

[QUOTE= I would normally stay watching them until I see them find the tit, If they havent anything got after 4 hours we would bring them in and do whatever has to be done with them but its rare enough it happens. To be honest its more of a problem with the older cows that have biggish tits/bad udders.[/QUOTE]

Tis like a double bonus when i come across a calf on a cold night and he has already stood and latched on... back to bed! or he is lying but you can see a clean, wet freshly sucked tit!!:P

give the cow some chanatol -from vet- this will give her more energy... is she on antibiotics after holding the cleanings, did he give her a wash out, also a shot of estrumate to clean her out would be no harm...

It's a great feeling when they have everything done of their own accord alright. It's hard to beat Lims for the will to live, the calf last night and the one today were both standing within 15 minutes of being born and both were good sized bull calfs. Might be a different scenario with Charolais.

It's the same with the blues, up and looking to suckle straight away

    Anyone register twins online ?

Yup. They just ask you to confirm if the dam had multiple births or something like that when you put in her tag again.

have a cow gone 296 days to same bull that threw the monster calf during the week... she could do with offloading him/her now!

I remember doing it before and just put in the same cow tag number again for the second calf. I don't remember it asking me if the cow had multiple births. But it was, maybe 2 years ago.

I did it the same way a few weeks back, no problem doing it and no questions asked. Cards were out a few days after.

I might have to , have never done it but she is tithering on point of calving any hour, she headed off away from others at 6am and i said mighty here she goes snd back into front fields with the others again... also is a monster of a cow and has calved a bull out of him in 2009.. I just haven't recorded how long she took then!

If she wasn't so close I'd do it but she could calve fairly handy herself before dark ! If she wasn't so big, hairy and wild I could judge her better as I can't see yet alone touch her bones with the coat of Hair on her! She R/w/h Sh x LM x HR

yea if she that close leave her, bet she spurts out the calf, good cross as long as she brings a bit of the shorthorn breeding to the table she will calve away

Serious short sudden downpours all morning here in Cavan. Mild though, should kick off a growth.
I noticed thismorning along our lane where I strimmed last week, green shoots through the yellow tatch.

Turned out weanlings from slatted shed on Saturday morning. They were better looking by lunch. Loving being out at grass.

noticed a crack in the corner of the slatted shed the last day, it runs all the way down to the ground, should I be worried, you can see out through it in a few places, the shed was only built a few years ago

Is the crack close to a rsj, Is there reinforcing in the wall, has it being tied properly to the steel work correctly. if yes to these then worry if no to any of these you may need to look a bit closer

I would be worried if it looked like it continued down into the tank. was the tank built to dept of ag spec with sufficient steel used? did a engineer sign off on the work?

Anyone sold 300kg ish weanling heifers in the mart lately, how did you get on? Have a few to go and wondering is it worhwhile taking them in or waiting till there is a bit more grass around.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I heard that they were well down last week, particularly plane stock.
If possible, keep them looking good and hold till there's grass, probably more buyers then.

Anyone see the chainsaw last night on dragon's den? It was worked off the tractor hydraulics. I thought it'd be very dangerous and an awkward c**t of a thing to use with the 2 hydraulic pipes training out of it.

well theres definitely steal in the tank cos I saw it when they were putting the shutters together and they used the shutters again for the wall and I can see where they cut the rods. theres a steal girdor running down the corner is that what you call them. the tanks are the proper dept because they came up above ground level so they must be

Yeah thats the run of them...
unless you have choice little types that might be breeders then they're making up to 950e + but more ordinary storish types 2.50 per kg is the height of it at the moment.
I've a feeling the lift in prices may remain in anticipation, a lot of farmers with big feed bills and now looking at the cost of fertilizer may decide to sit on their hands this summer...

By the way did anyone go to Carrick on Shannon last saturday?

I assume you separated the calf before tagging? I don't do anything to any calf with the cow in the same pen.
