What to do about baldness?

Right. I'm in my mid twenties and the ol male baldness is setting in a bit earlier than I predicted. My hair has gotten very thin right behind the fringe and I'm now faced with a decision on how to deal with. My initial reaction was to just shave the head with a zero or a bic and buy myself a nice warm hat to get me through the very cold season.

However, I was talking to a friend of mine who is also expecting the baldness in the near future and he says he plans to try and grow out his hair and cover it up for as long as possible, to me that sounds like the fast track to a ridiculous comb-over. Another friend started going on about some cream some guy she knows used and that I should try.

Tbh I'm still favoring my original shaved head look but have decided there is no harm in looking for a few alternate opinions so like any right thinking individual I've come to after hours for advice.

So what say ye? Should I go for

    1. Head Shave

    2. Comb-over

    3. Hair plugs

    4. Hair tonic

    5. Wig

    Poll to follow.

Tattoo loads of small rabbits on your scalp.

Isn't baldness due to excessive amounts of testosterone? Is there no magic pill that will control the hormones?

Shave it all off and wax the bejayis out of it.

I've just seen the best bit of product placement in a while. Clicked on this thread and there's an advertisement for a free hair transplant consultation!

Maybe it's the internet's way of telling me to tell you to go for that option!

Shaving your head or not giving a shit and leaving it bald are the only reasonable solutions to this problem.

Shaved head looks silly for a couple of months until your scalp darkens but it'd be my preference by far.

If you can afford it, get hair plugs. Whatshisface from the north in those Bloody Sunday films has a decent head of hair now.

Otherwise, shave it off or keep it very short.

Stupid hereditary baldness. I come from a family where myself and my 2 brothers had lost about 80% of our hair by the age of 20. Shaving it off is the only way and hopefully you hdon't have a weirdly shaped head under there.

No way do this, its a bad habit to get into and you can come to rely on them. They won't help you accepting your baldness which in the end is the only way to deal with it.

I'm in the same boat but I read that baldness is caused by too much DHT/testosterone flowing to the scalp.

So no matter how many products you use, you won't see results until you tackle your bodies over production of androgen (it's the 'raw' form of testosterone/ estrogen afaik).

I take a supplement containing SAW PALMETTO (some plant extract) which helps your body to keep normal testosterone levels. My acne has also died down dramatically because when your body has to much testosterone it just flushes it out the pores to get rid of it.

Also consider using Nizoral shampoo (yes that dandruff stuff) since it can also block the androgen getting to the scalp which builds up and causes baldness.
    http://www.hairlosstalk.com/hair-loss-treatments/nizoral/

So far these are working for me (5 months in:D) and hair loss has dramatically ceased. I don't know if I'm slowing it down or stopping it completely (since I have very long/thick hair) but I will soon consider some tonics to try regrowth.

Apparently the hair follicle never falls out, but simply shrinks and lays dormant. So bald people still have all their 'hair' roots and don't even know it.

It's no consensus on regrowing hair (most say it's impossible for now) but the normal everyday products I mention have a huge success rate in stopping baldness so start early and hope for the best!!;)

Nope and nope unless you want a chemical sex change. Baldness is mostly due to excessive genetic sensitivity to testosterone, not the level of it. IIRC baldy blokes often have lower test going on. Though I did read somewhere that that's mostly to do with receding hairlines, losing hair/gaining face. Apparently going baldy at the crown and overall is more down to lifestyle choices, stress and diet and fitness. The latter happens to women too, so that might back that up.

If you're a Black bloke then hit the razor. It always suits them. Its a rule. The bastids :D. If you're a White bloke, then it can vary. White blokes often seem to have weird heads for some reason. Heads that often look better with hair, or less threatening looking or "oh I'm sorry, are you unwell?" looking.

Shave it. It will look alright as long as your head isn't a weird shape. If I ever go bald I'll look terrible because I have these weird ridges in my head. It looks like this except I'm not black.

    Thats it.

Unless people can afford to do a Wayne Rooney its best to avoid potions and gimmicks. The baldness is coming for you if its in your DNA. They are only tormenting themselves trying to halt it. Getting used to it and accepting it is the best option in the long run. Keep the hair short and then when it gets past a certain stage shave it imo (not with a razor just clippers).

Cutting your hair short looks kind of macho and sexy if you're bald - not necessarily the shaved-bald look, but a very short cut.
A comb-over, or as the Japanese call it, barcode, is just sad. Watched a TV programme the other night in which a brilliant academic had her hair styled in a wave across her bald spot; she had her head tipped back, obviously habitually, and to her looking in the mirror it must have seemed that the bald spot was concealed. The interviewer was using superhuman strength to keep her eyes from drifting up towards that spot. Awful.

Why not go for the Pep Guardiola look by shaving it but also growing out some stubble. He seems to make it work.

You know when you see a picture of somebody as you never did, whether their hair was still dark or just there and you just think they look better now? Whether that's or minds playing games with is or not but It can be liberating.....

Losing can be winning. it will bring your face, to the fore. And remind you that maybe you need to buff up, in fact maybe baldness is the bodyshock I need

You know there is an approved pill, finasteride, you can take that stops you from continuing to go bald (at least in many people). I started taking it when I thought my hair was getting a bit lighter and I know other people that it has worked for.

My boyfriend rubs some crap into his hair that he swears by. I've no idea if it works or not. This piece of advice is of no help.

I'd keep it very short but not shave it. Or grow it long on the sides with a beard. Or glue dog hair to your scalp. Or get a tattoo of hair onto your head ala a Ken doll.

Or what about a tattoo of the globe... though, wait, that could be a nuisance if there is regime change and countries' borders and names change. What about an orrery effect, with the constellations prettily laid out, perhaps in jewelled studs, on a midnight-blue background?

You can get Hair in a Can: http://telebrandstheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/spray-on-hair-color1.jpg

Spray on the colour of your choice, throw your leather jacket over one of your shoulders in a nonchalant Tom Cruise in the 80's style , then get ready to hit the clubs and be a master of seduction once again.
