I flew Aer Lingus(/United) to Chicago and then onto Houston. Home yesterday, had a great experience. Food was decent, free soft drinks, baggage was checked the whole way through, got boarding passes for the connection so no extra waiting around to do it on a tight connection (air hostess even let me off with the first class passengers since I was in a hurry), entertainment was very good (Argo/Lincoln/plenty of TV/games/music etc). Flew with them to New York a little bit back and they were just as good. Friendly and courteous. Do agree that a lot of the Asian airlines do have it down pat, but for transatlantic flights, I'll almost always go Aer Lingus.

Flew Aer Lingus a few times.
Only complaint I have is they seem very relaxed about departure times. Been late quite a number of times.

But I'm not a business traveller so it's not realy a complaint, I don't realy care if we are 20 minutes late taking off.

It's something Ryanair are very good at though

I don't give a toss who I fly with as long as they get me to where I want to go when I want to go there and in one piece.

I never understand why some airline passengers expect to be treated like royalty as soon as they board a plane.

Its only a journey from A to B for fúck sake. I've never heard of anyone asking for an upgrade to first class on a bus from Dublin to Galway. But put the same twat on a plane to Manchester and they expect blow jobs with their cappuccino.

Bring a good book and get over it FFS.

They upgraded me and my mam to first class when my dad passed away in the states and looked after us like royalty all the way. Such a small thing in the grand scheme of things but I know it helped my mam that people were thinking of her and looking after her.

I don't know of a 2 or 3 class bus to Galway from Dublin.
A blow job, a hot drink and turbulence would cause problems too.

I'd say you should calm down a wee bit, it's only a flight.
    Smilies are fuuuuuunnnn :)

I'll also never understand why some airlines seem to go out of their way to make the travelling experience more uncomfortable through garish colour schemes, pretty much encouraging people to behave like animals, in-your-face sales pitches throughout the flight (it's actually quite funny on the Dublin-Liverpool flight watching them try to fit everything in)...

Look, if I was paying and there was a significant difference between the Ryanair flight and Aerlingus, I probably would fly Ryanair.

The fact that I fly a lot with work means I would pick Aerlingus every time.

If someone else is paying, go for comfort.

If you're paying yourself, sometimes the cost savings from going for the cheaper option override any considerations of comfort.

I'm definitely an Aer Lingus convert. Used to be a Ryanair man but I got caught in an Eastern Europe airport when something went wrong at the airport. Trying to get sorted with Ryanair was beyond hell.

Aer Lingus sorted us for a flight with so much ease and the return journey was a joy. It's so easy to see the merits of Aer Lingus as a company.

The way you herded by Ryanair is grand if you're on a bit of a short-haul football weekend or something, but for pleasure trips I'm Aer Lingus all the way. Ryanair are grand until you're in a situation that can be retorted by the "It's Ryanair!!! You know what the story is!" Line.

Big fan of Aer Lingus and their (mostly) friendly crews and its always nice to see the shamrock tail-fin in foreign lands.

Unfortunately though, I think that with such savage cuts the short-haul industry has experienced, their once world-renowned customer service has suffered a bit.

    Posts like this worry me:

Some people can be intimidating without even realizing it. Can you imagine some lanky dude in the front sticking his feet under the girls seat and then staring at her. Plus he was probably looking pretty bad after his weekend trip away.

Clearly this was a misunderstanding on both parties and an isolated incident.. I have often had to wait till the end to get change back from the trolly, I certainly would think that because they gave me some coins that they were out to get me. Sounds to me like Leo is a bit sensitive.

Aer Lingus tried to charge me €680 for two tickets to Amsterdam. €680.
I booked both of them with Ryanair to Eindhoven(An hour from Amsterdam) for €180.

Not quite sure how Aer Lingus justify that kind of ticket price.

I've had the same in reverse going to both Rome and Faro. Ryanair are rarely cheaper for the same luggage allowance anytime I am booking to outside the UK.

I don't want to get into this because its been done to death here already and because it was an Aer Arann flight, not an Aer Lingus flight but I'm not sure how you can call someone sensitive for being embarassed and annoyed after they were escorted off the plane by the Gardai and taken away for questioning.

Eh, that's about normal. 340 return, probably out on friday home on sunday/monday?

That was out on a Monday and back on a Thursday.

I think it's a disgraceful price, if normal then that's even worse.

Aer Lingus are good alright. Flew home from New York a few years ago and the little one was 10 months old. She slept most of the way and woke at Shannon. Air hostess came down and asked us could she take her up to meet the other cabin crew...we got our coffee in peace and the little one got to be fawned over by the rest of the trolley dollies!!

Wanted to fly to Milan in 2010. Aer Lingus were 1300 return. Ryanair 450 return. No brainer there. Have to say I've never had any issue with Ryanair cabin crew at all.

Yes they are excellent. They have great seats on European flights. Reasonably priced. I hope Ryan Air never get their hands on Aerlingus.

Yes. Swiss are great........flew a few times Swiss to Beijing. Really comparable with AL on service.

I love aer lingus but I dont like the way they advertise sale prices and then don't offer those prices on the website.

Their prices go up and down......for instance Monday check flights then Friday check again. In some cases the flight will have dcreased. I guess they are only fishing for a client. I also use www.skyscanner.net ......maybe you are aware of it but it really compares the prices to a destiination, helping you get the best deal. And you have loads of search options by year by month etc.

Probably. But I've been on the receiving end of similar bullying behaviour from Aer Lingus staff. Especially that patronising, passive-aggressive 'I hope that phone's switched off', said not once but two or three times. That's what you say to a primary school child, not a fully grown adult who is your customer.

Love aer lingus in every way, great service, caring staff etc, but the seats on the transatlantic routes are a bit on the small side, my flight home was very uncomfortable with lack of leg room, and if the person in front of you puts their seat back, it's practically on your nose.
I find the seats on their european routes much better

For flying, I just want 3 things:

    1. The plane to take off when it's meant to.
    2. To land at its destination, and in the manner you would expect a plane to land.
    3. Free complimentary sex with stunning air hostesses.

I still haven't found an airline I'm happy with.

I've only flew to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus and it's never cost me more than €120 return. There could be a number of reasons for the high price, late booking, time of the year, Amsterdam is also known for having big exhibitions, I once arrived in Amsterdam during one of these exhibitions and there wasn't a hotel room left in the city.

Thirdly, they have a really good reward scheme. Most airlines, you will have to be on a flight minimum twice a week for a year before you get to be a gold member, or take a lot of first class flights to clock up enough air miles. With Aerlingus you simple need 24 flights to the UK or 16 flights to Europe or 6 flights to the US to quality for the gold circle club.

The common consensus appears to point towards the Gold Circle programme being useful for lounge access, fast-lane security and occasionally for priority boarding (which is inconsistent in DUB and often goes unannounced), but less so for flight redemptions on EI or partner airlines. Things are good for those on top-tier elite status, but the lack of seat-selection and a decent extra baggage allowance for GC members don't compare favourably with many Skyteam, Oneworld or Star Alliance member programmes.

    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/aer-lingus-gold-circle-club/1447255-rate-aer-lingus-gold-circle-club.html

Also worth noting that no mileage will accrue for low-fare flights, regardless of how often you travel with them. I do have a lot of time for EI though & find their service consistently excellent.
