Petition to Limerick Racecourse to ignore ICABS

ICABS have a petition up to get Limerick Racecourse to ban coursing.

So, why not click here to sign this petition to support Limerick Racecourse and tell them that there's more pro-fieldsports people than there are animal rights lobbyists. And why not spread it around - tell your gun club, tell your friends, post it on twitter and facebook, email it to everyone, and so on.

Maybe if Limerick Racecourse see both sides and get an idea of the numbers involved, they won't see refusing to comply with ICABS' demands as a commercial risk, but good commercial sense. And maybe if they do, so will the next person, and who knows? At some point the animal rights organisations involved might start to lobby legislators to seek legislative change instead of engaging with private individuals and organisations.

Limerick Racecourse: Do not listen to animal rights extremists; continue to support coursing in Ireland for the sake of the Irish Hare
The only thing currently standing between the Irish Hare and the Endangered Species list is the conservation efforts of the Irish Coursing Club. Scientific studies like Reid, 2010 have shown that areas with coursing clubs have ten to one hundred times the density of hare population because of the efforts of those clubs when compared to the rest of the countryside. The government has neither the money nor the manpower to do what the ICC currently does, so there isn't any alternative conservation plan to fall back on should coursing be banned.

Animal rights lobbyists also have neither the manpower nor the money to undertake the scale of conservation efforts the ICC undertake today; if we were to follow their agenda, we would see the Irish Hare go extinct as a result of modern agriculture in our lifetimes. But rather than lobby for change to the government, these people target individuals and groups and threaten their livelihood to intimidate them into doing what they want. This petition is an attempt to protest that intimidation and support those who are targeted by it. It is a message of support to Limerick Racecourse to say hold firm, and ignore these people.

Have to say ICABS &Co are really trying the PR stunt on this one. However they didnt do very much homework on this either.

JP Mc Manaus and his wife are big coursing fans and have some top dogs ,and they sponsor alot of coursing events including Limerick racecourse which is in ASFIK financial difficulty. Guess who is bringing events, coursing or otherwise and contributes to their bank account???

So ICABS "asking" JP Mc Manaus not to sponsor coursing and petioning limerick racecourse to stop coursing events is like asking a Muslim to have a nice sausage and bacon buttie!
    Signed petition too.

I put it on a few UK forums asking people there, a good few have signed already, no harm in others prompting them a bit.

Yup. ICABS and the usual lot have been shilling their petition world-wide for a while now, so spreading it to anyone who'll support it would be great.

@ Wexfordman - I hope you change your mind about closing your account or at least come back in a new guise.

Don't let the crap get you down. You're more than welcome back. Maybe a few days or week away will help clear your head.

I don't think coursing has anything to do with hunting and shooting. I'm not saying it should be banned or anything ''another mans sport'' and all that. I just don't think hunters and shooting should be associated with coursing.

Better to fight in somone elses backyard.Than in your own living room!;):)
It mightnt look like it has anything to do with us,but you can be sure that once hunting with horse&hounds and coursing is gone, shooting is next on their agenda, despite their mealy mouthed claims to the contary.
Anyways on this topic of Limerick racecourse and selective photography.Anyone notice that the back round scenery of Limerick race course changed very dramatically too between 2012 and 2013??:
IOW its a selected FAKE pic!

Yes, just a pointer to everyone, try sending tweets, emails, facebook to people like this.

    http://www.asfa.org/

Use google to find all coursing clubs worldwide and just drop them a few lines asking for support. I've sent off a fair few and am getting good cooperation from the UK.

Doesn't matter. It's not what I'd spend my weekends doing either, but the actual evidence shows that coursing does more good for the hare species than bad and that the amount of mortality involved is well below levels in the wild. Given what the NWPS have said about the hare's conservation status in Ireland at the moment, it's the best available option.

And all of that is completely independent of the fact that the people looking to get rid of coursing are the same ones who have openly stated that they want to get rid of all forms of hunting and shooting, and who will quite happily ignore the law and bully people and destroy property and have done worse abroad in pursuit of this.

So support it because the people trying to ban it are coming for you as well; or just support it because the evidence says its the best available option. Your call.

No, but you get a smorgasboard of signatories.

Point is lots of foreigners petitioning to get us out of our forestry, so urban types can scare the wildlife off somewhere else.

It's an international site and as you can see from this one the people putting the petitions up there are very skilled in maximising their reach. Here JF goes onto an internet radio station to get support and the petition is at 2500 sigs. In some ways its not where the people who sign it comes from its just about being able to say x number of people agree with me.

    501 (us) -v- 878 (ICABS)

Sent to everyone who signed, but everyone else should see it too :)
Folks, we've hit the half-way point on our petition to ask Limerick Racecourse to not listen to ICABS and to save hare coursing there. We have five hundred signatures. This is fantastic - we've managed to record that much support in only three and a half days from when the petition was started and we haven't even been publicising it that much. ICABS's petition to ban hare coursing from Limerick Racecourse has 878 signatures at the moment after eleven days of them lobbying all over the world via facebook and twitter looking for signatures. We've done brilliantly to get this far...

...but wouldn't it be even more brilliant if we reached our goal of a thousand signatures before ICABS reached theirs and when Limerick Racecourse were handed a petition to ban coursing by ICABS, they could just reach into a drawer, pull out our completed petition to save coursing and just say "no thanks lads, we're backing fieldsports because there's a lot more of them than of you and that makes fieldsports the obvious choice"?

We can do this - the weekend is coming up, more and more people will be logging into facebook or twitter, clubs will be getting together, people will be off work for a day or two and will have the time to sign and we could hit our goal and have this completed petition sitting on the boss's desk in Limerick Racecourse come Monday morning.

And then, the next time that an animal rights group pressures a singer to denounce hunting because he went to a hunting ball, or pressures the Gathering to call fieldsports "blood sports" and strip all mention of them from its website, or calls for boycotting a tv chef because she dared to know where the meat she's cooking came from, or indeed when they target any individual or company and try to pressure them into denouncing us? They can just point to the speed and size of the response that Limerick Racecourse got, and say "thanks but no thanks; now go away".

So please, I know some of you have been doing this already, but take five minutes, share the link to the petition on your facebook page or twitter feed, or email people, or call a friend, or talk to your club and tell them to come sign up!

    Thank you!

    703(us) -v- 1049 (ICABS)

So we didn't make the thousand signatures by today and ICABS will be able to hand their petition in ahead of us at the moment :( The petition is still open though, so it's not over yet - and surely we can find more than 700 people who'll sign up, given that we have 400,000-odd people in fieldsports in Ireland alone, to say nothing of people outside of Ireland (who represent potential tourism income for Limerick Racecourse)?

Yes, I think we need a direct appeal from someone in the coursing area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

We did have this and this and from some pro-coursing groups on facebook, but maybe if someone knows someone in the ICC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 558 ✭✭✭fathersymes

Yep, I know, we need someone in the ICC to directly request supporters to sign. I see they haven't picked up on it themselves, no retweets or anything.

I tried a lot of anti peta groups in the states but the takeup has been disappointing, likewise with any hunting dog groups and hunting groups. I feel the request has to come from one of their own.
