Samsung advised me that their authorised repair/agent in Ireland are Fonemenders.

So I fixed my phone, courtesy of a factory reset. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience actually and the phone was working beautifully until this morning where I managed to damage the screen  It's not broken, but there are green lines down it so it obviously took some sort of impact while walking the dog.

    Any idea how much a replacement screen for an S4 is? This is the only thing I can find but I'm not sure if it's what I need;

    Ebay

When i bought mine in CPW the other day your man told me that it can cost up to 300euro for screen repair- now he was in the middle of trying to sell me insurance at the time so take from that what you may.

Also while I'm here, stupid question time- its taking me a bit of time to get used to the eye scroll and gesture stuff- I've never used any of it before but I'm finding it all a bit hit and miss and am just wondering if its me and how I'm using it or the actual feature itself?

Ouch €300 is an awful lot. I'll bring it back to the store tomorrow morning and see what they say. As for the smart scrolling stuff, it is definitely a bit hit and miss. I like the gesture stuff, but the eye stuff was starting to annoy me so I switched it off. I think it's a cool idea but feel it's not working well enough to be left on.

Yeah it was enough to twist my arm into buying insurance. Thanks for assuring me its not just my eyes! The jump scroll thing- similar? All gestures are fine for me but the scroll seems a bit iffy even on the demo.
Sorry if all this is in the thread already!

No you're right, it ends up being jumpy and unusable. I'm sure they'll fine-tune it and what I found impressive was that the eye scanning thing even works through sunglasses! As the next versions of the Galaxy come out I've no doubt they'll make it better though.

    Thanks for recommending Jonny24ie
    Yea it's super job.
Went to Vodafone shop this morning and get said about €180 to fix it. I asked him who fixes them for them and he said fonefix. :-)
U get a receipt with the job done and your Sammy warranty is still valid.

    Me 7!

I was leaving it until today to contact them, it's been a full week over the estimated delivery date.

Just received mine. It's quite nice actually. Makes my phone much chunkier but I suppose that's the point :)

£180 :( That's the best price I could get, though to be fair I'll have it this time tomorrow. Still, gutted - there goes the wife's Christmas present :P

All I can find on the Samsung site, is the service locator for the US and the UK,
    but none for Ireland:

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/location/supportServiceLocation.do

    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location

    Edit:

If your battery is defective it should be bloated also like the one on the right hand side of this picture:

    samsung-galaxy-s4-akku-aufgeblaeht-3.jpg

I rang Samsung products on 0818 717100 and explained that I am sure my battery if affected by this recall and after a few questions by the service guy on the phone I was told I would have to send the phone away for 7 to 10 days as they want to check that the battery issue has not damaged the phone ! Alternatively I could drive to Dublin hand it in and possibly collect the following day.

All in all the above does not really sound like a viable option

Is there an app that handles all messages from SMS to Viber messages to WhatsApp?

It's a nice case but can't help but feel it will very easily slip out of my hands

You realise that's just some guy you're buying from right? Pixmania is €499. Just buy it from amazon (make sure the seller is amazon.co.uk!). It's £389 at the moment.

Also, just me whose charger doesn't fit while the case is on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,166 ✭✭✭Tasden

Speaking of cases, i know people discussed theirs earlier in the thread but would anyone have any recommendations or opinions based on ones they've used? Dont mind spending good money on one if its gonna protect the phone but would rather spend it based on a recommendation. Sorry for all the questions, only bought it the other day!

I found the Case Mate Tough very good....doesnt look too bad either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,941 ✭✭✭SuprSi

    I originally had 2 Spigen cases - found the 1st one too plasticy and the 2nd broke at the base where the plastic was weakest. The 2nd was a nice case too, but I wanted to try something different so went for this one;

    Case-Mate-Olo-TREAD-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S4.png

It's great - fits well, has very good protection around the sides and back and is very easy to hold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,941 ✭✭✭SuprSi

It might be useful if I told you what the name of the case is! Case Mate Olo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

Otter box defender, big bulky case, but best all round protection. Have the casemate though too, but it doesn't have a good lip to protect the screen.

Yeah theres a pretty big difference tbh. Mini has smaller non HD screen, smaller camera sensor 8Mp slower processor, the list keeps going i wouldnt even compare the 2 tbh. Whats your budget and are you upgrading or buying straight up?

hmm so be better spend the extra few pound. Ive a nokia lumia at the minute on prepay. its okay but cant get alot of apps that interest me, id be happy enough spending 350e but id go a bit more if it was worth it. Any phones around that price range that are good phones?

Ill be honest and say im a little biased, i only sold my s4 last month, while its a great phone it wasnt for me for many reasons. If i had 350 id be looking at the Nexus 5 (thats what i sold my s4 to buy) or if you were looking for something along the lines of the S4 mini the Motorola Moto G 16Gb is what id be getting, plus you would be 150 under budget ;) the Moto G has a great spec for the money and is benchmarking well above its weight. Plus it will get KitKat well before the Samsungs.
