Well I guess I won't be posting in this thread anymore. My S4 was stolen just over an hour ago on O'Connell St. :-(

Yeah I'm fine... it was a quick snatch and grab. Gutted, especially as it was a prize in a competition.

Don't really have the cash to replace it. Ohh well.

Would insurance conver owners against theft?

This something I've been contemplating if I get one, I wonder if its worth it.

I only now found out that if I upgraded my bank account to a ufirst account and had the phone registered with my bank they would have replaced it for me for free.

    Godammit...

    I was reading about this software;

    http://lojackformobiledevices.absolute.com/

It seems to integrate with the firmware of the phone, making it that bit more difficult to remove. It's not cheap, but maybe worth it if there's a chance of your phone being stolen? I don't know anyone using it though.

    Sorry to hear that.

It's happening all over the place. My wallet was snatched at around 9PM couple of months back in Dame street. Now I usually go into a shop or pub if I need to make a call in the evening. Dont want my S4 snatched.

Sure. Nothing works better than insurance fraud.

Yeah I didn't think so. I'll just cut my losses and buy a new phone come pay day. Boo.

Just wanted to report that since my 4.3 update (meteor), I've had a good few random restarts.

I am on 4.2 and If I don't turn off my phone every two days or so I won't get any messages or be able to make a call until I restart. Not really a big issue. I am rooted and am using a pre rooted stock rom so maybe it could be the rom causing the issue.

I am also on 4.3 (meteor) since last week. No random restarts on my phone.

When registering you are asked for the IMEI, and mobile number.
You also make a declaration that the phone is on the network when registering.

You're not covered for the first 14 days.

It's your call, but you could very easily end up with a fraud conviction and trouble obtaining any kind of insurance in the future.

Is it worth that for a new phone?

To be honest I'd say you registering and immediately claiming would ring a few alarm bells....Not saying you wouldn't get away with it but...

    Evening all,
I am thinking of making the switch from the iphone to the samsung s4.... I have been with apple the for number of years and use all apple gear however I have become a little dismayed with the whole ecosystem and am considering dipping my toe into the android system to start with. I know the the whole apple vs samsung is a personal choice but after having had a quick flick through the thread and seen the problems people have had and are having I'm just wondering are people generally happy with the phone and the android system, apps, choice, support etc.
I look forward to your opinions!
    Cheers.

This news is about a month old now but I could not find it anywhere in this thread.

There is a recall on faulty batteries for the S4 and Samsung are offering free replacements:

At your nearest Samsung service centre. Good luck finding where that is though!

There's been mixed reports about getting a replacement battery, but these reports are from all different countries also.

All I can find on the Samsung site, is the service locator for the US and the UK,
    but none for Ireland:

    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location

    Edit:

If your battery is defective it should be bloated also like the one on the right hand side of this picture:
