Yeah milk advisor said send it on. Was 1.9° at collection. Didn't smell the best though.

Just got the BVD results for the twin heifers from last week. Both tagged the same time, one negative which was exposed to a lot of animals, one positive which wasn't exposed to anything only its own mother before tagging.

Those results just don't make sense:confused:

Could you only put half of 1 milking into the tank and the other half into the tank? that way then the old tank won't be under as much pressure to cool such a large volume in 1 go

tried that wasn't enough power for bigger tank and it kept tripping out.
We need to upgrade supply and bring bigger power cable to parlour

Had fierce problems ourselves with power when we put up the new parlour - bloody trip switches would trip in the middle of milkings. Had to get ESB to up the power coming down the line to us (at a nice cost) and bigger cable into the parlour. Been ok since thank god

Gg obvious to anyone reading ur posts here that ur a young ,energetic.ambitious dairy farmer but maby a bit to cautious (no way a criticism).u need to sit down with ur dad and a planner asap and put a plan in place to
1 add more units to ur parlour
2 new/second hand tank with spare capacity
    3 put in slurry storage
    4 cubicles
Tams 2 grant coming up with a 60/% grant.id advise u to start planning now to get above issues sorted and avail of this.think unread somewhere where it was taking up 35/40 hours a week to just milk with current nos which ain't sustainable long term as well as adding more cows..you'll be investing in ur business and future and have good control of it,while ur young bite the bullet ,get a plan in place talk to the bank and by the time ur 35/40 it'll be all paid for .

Don't worry mj we have all our prices have tams1 grant for parlour and tank and had a lad out last week giving price on 150 cow lagoon.
rep coming to give price in Tower next week.
We'll do certain amount every yr
unlike most farms we have a mortgage to look after for the land that's most important firstly.

I have every intention of spending money but ye have to be making it first

Anyone have any experience of terras looped water system??.seriously need to upgrade water system here as only have 1/2 inch water pipe carrying water to cow paddocks which with extra cow nos now is coming under pressure ,only thing saving me is 180 and 250 gallon troughs in cow paddocks.have to drill a well this summer and really think I need to sort this now at same time.thinking of going with 1 inch loop and fast flow valves

in much the same boat as your self, & we are fighting against a hill all the way

we did loop some of the silage ground and it seemed to improve pressure and waterflow,

heard nothing but good reports of the terra system

Main line here is 1" with 3/4" going up to trough serious job with fast flow ball cocks. Wouldn't take alot for us to do a loop system would just need to put it under ground last 150 meters

Where having problems here getting water up to paddocks that are up a hill from water pump hooked 3/4 inch water pipe into piping for washdown pump, flow rate now is 70 litres a minute with fast flow valves where before water wasnt even able to travel to these troughs the beauty of it is have 4,000 litre tank for washdown pump so it dosent run dry when cows are drinking at peak times after milkings

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,278 ✭✭✭frazzledhome

2" main line here, on group scheme. 3/4 to troughs fast flow valves 300 g troughs. Cows hard set to drop water level.

One spot where we have a hill we continued with 2" to top and on to 11/2 from there. All done our selves pipe on top of ground

Is your farm water pressure driven by a washdown pump?

No just a line that goes to the 40 acres of paddocks uphill from well, its turned off when cows arent up grazing these paddocks
