how far are your cows walking? its 1km to the furthest corner of the milking block. cows dont be in a great panic walking up that lane!!
do you try alternate long and short walks?

I farm 2fairly equal blocks 200 yards apart with the longest walk about 1km too. I graze the awaay block by day and they stay at home by night, find they dont eat alot by night so might get 30 percent grazed by day at home as well

there was an article in the findo- i think- saying that 6% of herds have an average scc over 400,000 what would this work out at financially costing the farmer?

Already have the bovillis bought. They have been vaccinated for the last 6 years so it might be ok.

We will be Brucellosis free so there won't be any pre/post movement blood testing for Brucellosis or herd testing at all.:)

I imagine there will be occasional herd tests for suckler cows as dairy will be covered through milk testing.

What are the benefits of milk recording? We've stopped as Scc well under control and being honest it was all we used it for. Ballache is all I ever thought of it, in fact last year we only took evening sample and removed the meters

I'm still waiting for my top 5 text. Did a private one at the co- op yesterday from one of the usual suspects. 12m. Suspect has been apprehended.

Got the crowd we.re getting our new tank off of to lend a compressor free of charge for the current tank as the old compressors were fcuked. Had to pay to fit it alrite as tank was on old system

Got a plate cooler? Make sure the cold water is going in full whack to cool the fresh milk as much as possible. And get onto your Glanbia milk adviser and tell him your having problems and ask if the milk can be collected any more frequently. Lost 1000s of litres of milk here over the years with bulk tank problems cropping up on hot days, some kick in the teeth.
