Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wish Sylvanians were around when I was little! Maybe they were, but I was a total Sindy girl, lol. Poor DD, all her Sylvanian houses are boxed up as we recently sold our house and it took me that long put them back in their boxes that I'm damned if they are coming out until we get our new home. I practically itemize that stuff its so small!

I got my light up boxes in a local hardware shop here. They are red with big green bows, very festive. I was delighted with them until my brother asked me when I started supporting sports teams :(

Just saw this on facebook. A Christmas themed shop has opened in Cornwall during the heatwave.

That shop looks amazing wish I was in Cornwall ! On another topic does anyone know where I could get a really good Christmas garland for my fireplace I want ones like you see in American movies. Unfortunatey wont be in America anytime soon unless I win the lotto or something !

I have bought a few over the years but they are never right I would like one that I could loop up and down in front of fire rather than on top of mantel in that makes sense

This maybe more popular right now, than just for the Christmas Forum: :D

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
    When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
    The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

This is what I did, as I had the same idea. (you know you have a serious Christmas 'problem' when you cross over and do things American style! LOL)

I bought a really nice one €20 plus. I don't know where you live, but some good hardware shops have really nice ones. I then bought a bag of pine cones, glue. Oh and a couple of rolls of wrapping ribbon, the material type, form ... Aldi I think it was.

I picked my favourite ribbon (it doesn't have be tartan) and wrapped it around the garland, secured it at both ends. Glued on the pine cones, you can go as heavy handed as you like.

I did this for both fireplaces, red ribbon on one....gold on the other. Then a set of white lights also wound around both. The lights just totally finish it all off.

That's my tupence worth! Using the same technique on the Christmas trees, with the ribbon, just transforms it. Makes it extra huge! not tackey!

Also, a bottle of 'Christmas burning oil' for the oil burners... a few drops here and here on the odd pine cone around the house....OMG!!!!! fab!

I find snow miserable in this country. It fecks up the transport systems and the roads end up like ice-rinks. It'd be grand if we were equipped to deal with it as a nation. It's like the heat- the Irish don't do extremes well!

Mashedbanana those garlands sound beautiful you will have to post pics in December. I am not very confident about doing things like that but I suppose I could give it a lash I am just sick of spending money on all these garlands and I am never happy with them.

I am always drooling watching American Christmas movies they have gorgeous garlands and trees.

I am laughing at all the snow posts I could do with a bit now to cool down the kids are up all night with the heat so we are all a little cranky !!!!

Heres another idea, you could buy 2 pishkey cheap ones, and with some green wire (of the garden variety) twist and intertwine the 2 together. You have one serious, lush, full, garland. Then decorate & add to as you desire. :-)

A couple of good winter tyres! I take mine off in the spring, and put them back on in October. I'd be lost without them, I live in the country, and in 5 years we are here, only on 1 occasion did the council salt/grit our road. Many a bad day I was out and about, when NO ONE could move, and many were even stuck. Even very decent remoulds aren't too bad, as new winter tyres are expensive. I trust my tyre man though!

I like snow tbh....it makes everything clean and pure, and kina forces us to be slowed/quietened. Which isn't always a bad thing. Talking of us Irish not taking extremes too well... it was 22deg here where I am today. I was cold. We all were! Looks like we have grown accustomed to the heat! and here I was all along laughing at the foreigners wearing there jackets in the scorching heat for the last few weeks! Couldn't understand it. Now I do! If this winter is a bad one, I hope the council have their act together!

I was just thinking there that the Argos Autumn/Winter catalogue will be out in a few days and it will have all the Top Christmas toys for 2013 in it as well as gifts and the decorations.

I haven't been here in months but I just got my first Christmas Decoration and Craft email from Better Homes & Gardens! It says what better time to get started and make sure I'm organised.... My sensible mind is telling me, "No, you crazy woman! It's the middle of summer! It's roasting!" However, my inner Christmas Fairy is squealing with delight :pac:

Don't worry. You learn to ignore the voices in your head telling you such things and soon you will be singing Jingle Bells in June with the rest of us. :pac:

Now with that very distracting heatwave is over I'm already looking forward to the summer holidays ending and having all the kids back in school, X-Factor back on the screens, Autumn setting in, the dark evenings creeping back in... ih yes indeed the countdown is well and truely on now.

It's crazy to think X factor starts in 4 weeks!! I think everyone uses X factor as a countdown to Christmas!

I miss when the Christmas no. 1 was actually Christmassy. It should be mandatory for there to be bells and a nice snowy video.

I would love if the Christmas number one was actually a Christmas song this year.
In other news this catalogue has being delivered to a shopping center.
