    Ah no. Much Damage?

could have been worse - good bit of crash protection on it, but lost a wing mirror (bar end one), and clutch lever looks a bit wonky :/

bars look a bit crooked, but I'd say the mounts just need loosened and tightened again to straighten up (steel bar, so doubt they got bent)

Put a new battery in the Fazer yesterday, couldn't get anywhere in Dublin stocking a motobatt which I've read good things about so went with a Yuasa. Some difference compared to the old cheap one that was on its last legs

Yuasa are a quality battery well worth the outlay....

Started stripping and recon my (new to me) Montesa Cota 315.
Footpegs off, had to drill the heads off one side as the 5mm hex had rounded.
Hangars off and cleaned, welded on some pads for the new pegs, wirebrushed and cleaned them and then gave them a few coats of paint and refitted some stainless steel footpegs.
Started checking rear linkage and making a list of what parts to replace/repair.
Changed coolant and checked sparkplug, space is very tight on Trials bikes!

Had to google that one. Is there a big trials scene in Ireland?

Big enough I think, I'm not competing, just want it to improve my skill level. and for something to mess about on without having to go miles with a trailer and my dirtbike.
2 litre tank, I won't be going that far!

Well, got the osram bulbs today. Went out to see if I can change the low beam without having to dismantle the front end.

Managed to squeeze my hand in under and replace the bulb. Was delighted with myself not having to dismantle anything...then I turned on the ignition! No light, hit the high beam... I f&*^g changed the high beam. FFS why is the high beam at the bottom and low beam at the top! Going to have another go at it later on!

Stripped the shock linkage and exhaust off tonight, Drilled the rivets out of the silencer and pulled a mass of oily black stinking fibreglass out of it.
Horrible. Need to rebuild it now, as for the centre muffler I'll have cut some holes in it to get the old packing out and fix the internal perforated tube.
It'll have to be done as a new one is £536stg:eek:
Needle bearings in linkage all dry and rusty, Brake pedal same.
My parts list is getting longer and longer.
I don't even want to think about the shock and rebuilding it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,012 ✭✭✭serious3

Unless the shock is hanging then I wouldn't even touch it, just change the linkage beatings which as a kit I got from my Honda dealer in Galway, in around 100e if I remember correctly. Exhaust.....I had to get a replacement back box, cost me 190stg!!! Needless to say I mind it! Sandifords in the uk are good for genuine stuff at reasonable money, otherwise it's ebay 2lts, don't worry you'll be wrecked before you empty it!

I picked up two punctures in two days.

Found the back tyre flat when finishing work on Monday, limped to a garage, plugged it with string and got it inflated, but it was flat again by the time I got home on Tuesday night.

Took the bus today, was wondering if I'd be walking home  was lucky to be only delayed by about half an hour but that was after staying in work until 7 to see what was happening with Dublin Bus. I walked past a couple of hundred people waiting on Dame Street for buses that were never going to go to those stops.

Had a look at the tyre again and the first plug was holding, but found a second puncture near the first, and can't successfully plug that one, took the wheel off and hope to get it sorted on Saturday. TBH I won't be surprised if I have to replace it :(

Might as well put in the new rear brake disc I have waiting to go in too - not as easy as on most bikes as it's a single sided swingarm so the hub/chain adjuster has to come out but it's no harm to clean and grease it as it seized on me before. Engine is due an oil and filter change too, and the front pads are on the way out. There's always something. Looks like an oily-fingered Christmas break...

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

    Why the racist post?

If you want to have a laugh, that is fine, but there is no need to be racist.

I got the tune ecu software to change the map on the tiger to match the new exhaust etc. but am having some trouble with the drivers for the lead. Back to searching forums for more answers for now.

I dont think there was any racist remark implied by Wonda. I think he was just referring to the high level of crime in South Africa.

    Taken from wiki:
Crime is a prominent issue in South Africa. South Africa has a very high rate of murders, assaults, rapes (adult, child and infant), and other crimes compared to most countries. Most emigrants from South Africa state that crime was a big factor in their decision to leave.

Loads more on the net about the terrible crime over there if ya fancy having a look.

I bought a lead from http://www.lonelec.co.uk/, didn't have any problems with the drivers. Where did you get yours ??

Also, any idea of people that do tuning with Tune ECU as opposed to Dynojet ??

I have tried a Vag-Com lead from http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/hex-usb+can.html that a friend of mine had. I have ordered another lead from ebay now to try that also.

I am running it through windows 7 on my Mac book pro but I have read that this is ok. What did you run yours on?? I think we should have a tuning day at your house :D:D

I have not looked into tuners yet but it would be something I would be interested in and I know another lad also who would join us. Im sure there are loads in the UK but not sure bout here.

Ahh the monthly ritual, log in. Click on all posts by Wonda 3oy, and try to continue to disrupt boards.

Getting a little sad now my friend.

And as Leppla pointed out it is far from racist, its a well known FACT that S.A is one of the worst crime ridden countries in the world. And for what its worth I have lots of South African pen pals, they send me emails all the time offering me money and the loike!

P.C. banned for a month. Pretty sick of this continued childish witch hunt. Next time it will be a lot longer.

I'm running Windows 7 though my Mac as well. I did read that some of the eBay cables wont work because they dont have the right chipset in them or something.

Yeah that's right you they need to have a lead with an fdti chipset and then you need to download the fdti driver but it didn't seem to work on the lead I have. I will try again at the weekend when I have more time and hopefully all goes well.

What changes did you make to your bike? Did you notice any difference??

    Ive used mine a fair bit;

    change maps (couple of times)
check throttle body balance - didnt need adjusting
diagnose some problems (missed hose on the MAP sensor on reassembly following some work for example)
reset throttle position sensor (done after map changes, and as part of yearly-ish checkups)

    maybe more..

think they (triumph) started encrypting the ECUs on the newer bikes, so tuneboy only worked up to a certain VIN (on the 675s anyway), but looks like theyve resolved it?
