For suburbia I did The best Times? The social impact of Celtic Tiger, The M50: A 'Lugly' Construct and The New Country estates, you should also refer to consumerism and shopping patterns here and suburban mobility. If you need these readings just PM me your email address as I have them on my laptop.

Unfortunately my other question was on place of belonging so I am not really able to help you much with division in modern cities.

Would you mind? Thanks a million! I'll PM you now! :)

What was the question? They don't put the exam papers on the library site for a while.
It was about flight codes, and the programme had to keep prompting the user until they typed "end". I couldn't even get the prompting right. :( Obviously there's <5 marks for my answer.

They'll be out somewhere in the second or third week of the semester for most people. Some departments might have them out in week 1. Some, Geography a few years ago I think, were right into March before people got their results.

Usually they're posted on the department notice boards, but they're done by student number, so there's no need to worry about everyone knowing what you got, or being embarrassed and so on.

One thing I'd say to some of the first years who may not realise this... the marking scheme is different in university. You'll be pretty lucky to see a 70 or more. Everything above 70 is basically the equivalent of your A from secondary school. Above 60 is a 2.1 and is a pretty great mark. I say this because I've seen people really upset for getting a mark in the 60's, not realising that they've actually done very well.

And then they have to explain the mark to their parents:p. Though while a first is a first, 70 representing some sort of ceiling you're lucky to break through isn't true in every subject. In English most won't ever score 70, and few will ever see an 80, but in subjects like computer science you can land scores in the 80s and 90s, and plenty do.

Judging on how my exams have gone and the two I have left, I won't be explaining to my parents about 60's, i'll be lucky to get bare 40's in most things.. :pac:

    Damn unmotivation

I'd add the Logic module in Philosophy to that, very possible to get up into the mid to high 90's in that module, unless they've done away with the essay component, in which case 100% is totally doable. First year ancient Greek and Latin as well, high 80's very doable. Not sure what other Arts modules allow for very big marks. Maybe a stats module somewhere? Economics, Finance or something? Or if you do Maths through Arts I suppose. But yes, I was assuming I was talking to Arts students :D My mistake.

I've actually taken to telling my own students this, with the addition that in sociology (which I teach) if they are good with stats they could get higher in quants (only 90% I saw in undergrad).

In general for first year sociology students I would like to point out that if you aren't happy with your mark talk to your tutor about how you could improve on your last essay, chances are problems with that are being reproduced in your exams. (If you do just email a copy of your last essay)

I'm still shell shocked from this afternoons exam. I've been up since 7.30 this morning and I don't think I have much juice left in the can. I think I might just call it a day and get up early tomorrow morning>

My English exam is tomorrow. I don't know anything about Eavan Boland, other than the fact that she's an Irish poet. I'm in work and a while ago, I took a call. Now I could have just finished the call and studied but instead I spent 45 minutes searching the web for the guy I spoke to because he sounded hot.

    Devastatingly, I didn't find him.

Clearly your creeping skills fall below University standards :P

I know, right? At least I'm experiencing heartbreak now so I might have something to write about in my exam. Those poets love a bit of emotion.

There is literally 0 chance of me passing EN152A this afternoon, I literally cannot grasp any of it. All i'm studying now (left it a bit late, right?) is the French Revolution and 2 Historical periods, I haven't a notion of the material for the Harlem Renaissance question and I missed the vast majority of lecture time as I was sick for a couple of weeks. This is definitely going to be the worst exam i've ever done.. I know I won't even get the 25% needed so you can compensate.. FFS

Last test today at 3:30. Its about 95% that I am going to fail :(

Its such an easy subject too, I just havnt prepared for it at all. Im trying now, but Im ****ed. . . And I was on course to get my 70% for my post grad before this :(

Ep221, easiest test I've ever done. (Hey that rhymes!)

On my way in to do an exam now. Im not even aiming to pass it, just to get 25% so I can pass by compensation :( Ill be lucky if I even get that...
