    Tip From The Top:

    As for the invigilators - if they're standing very close to you, it's highly unlikely that you're the one they're looking at. So keep that in mind and ignore them.

    ;)

    I didn't finish the MT101S exam. I made the mistake of going for the hardest questions first. :(

    Am I right in thinking you guys have Linear Algebra? If so, 45 minutes is LOADS of time for it.

    ah darren everyone that has come through maynooth have had at least 1 exam on a saurday

    Yep, I've to go all the way for just 45 minutes :mad: Oh really, d'ya think so? I was sure I'd run out of time. Matrices take me an unbelievable amount of time to solve and I'm so inefficient. I keep going on and on and then realise I could've done it quicker with less steps and yeah...

    I'm sure Ciaran has said it in his lectures, but just focus on the easiest row first, reduce that down, and you're flying after that.

    It'd be great if we had Ciarán for it. Unfortunately not though!

    Anyone on here doing HY311? That exam was absolutely awful, the worst one I've ever done in the three years I've been here...Some of the questions were difficult to interpret let alone answer! Very unhappy with it. :(

    Absolutely. Awful questions, especially on the 20th century. Don't understand how they could put in a question on Ireland 1948-62 when they insisted that none of the questions would be on the essay topics. I can't understand how you could do that question without mentioning the Inter-Party Government. Baffling.

    Anyone have any tips for EN152A? Bricking it.

    Really. I'm the opposite. At least we can make sense of Fiachres' notes. Questions are fairly straight forward, just the time thats a worry for me. Gauss Jordan will be the last thing i look at. Takes far too long for me.

    Really? I can never make his notes out. I'm always writing down wrong words and symbols.
    But ya, the questions are relatively straight forward. I might leave that last as well because I'll get none of the other questions completed otherwise :rolleyes:

    Same boat. Went to so few lectures. :/

    I'm the same for B, have CS exams on Monday and Tuesday so not a whole lot of time to cram for English too. You get on okay in your essay in the other module?

    EN152A is really tough :( I can't understand the exam papers at all. I'm just going to have to read all the notes and additional readings up on Moodle and that's all I can do :/

    I was pretty unlucky today; my black pen, my red pen and my highlighter all wasted on me during my exam. I am glad I had brought in a spare pen. Apart from that, my exam went relatively well. They have all been ok so far, still struggling with time management though.

    Someone please tell me how to do this D:

    Find the parametric equation of the line which contains the point (12, 0, −3) and is parallel to the vector 2i − 4j + k. Also, find another point on this line which isdifferent from (12, 0, −3).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭peacock169

    My understanding of this from the notes i have:

    Loose Definition: Given the point (Xo,Yo,Zo) on the Line L and a vector v=Ai+Bj+Ck parallel to L, then the parallel equation of the line L is give by

    x=Xo+at, y=Yo+bt, z=Zo+ct Where t is an element of R

    For your question: Xo=12, Yo=0, Zo=-3, a=2, b=-4, c=1

    The parametric of the line is: x=12+3t, y=0-4t, z=-3+t. t Element R.

    This is where my notes stop, so this is where i stop! :D

    Found a handier way.

    Vector = 2i-4j+k
    gives the point (2,-4,1)

    (x,y,z) = (12,0,-3) + t(2,-4,1)

    So, x=12+2t, y=-4t, z=-3+t.

    Ya know what? I have no idea. I never got it back 'cause my tutor cancelled. I did okay in the other assignments though, pretty much always got B's. No idea what's gonna come up in this exam though. Can't wait for it to be over!

    Good luck in your CS exams. It's tough having them right before English like that.

    Mt111s went really well this morning, almost identical to last years paper. Christ, the time flew, was afraid to look up and peruse the room(as i tend to do:D) for fear of losing a minute!
    Only Biology left on Monday, not sure how i feel about this one, loads to cover.
    Looking at previous papers, i'm very tempted to try predict whats coming up, though that could seriously backfire.

    Bioethics and biotechnology was fairly alright.... 3 down, 1 to go.... Tumor Biology on monday (tough **** of an exam :( )

    It was the same with MT322S. Nearly the exact same paper.

    My last exam is CS141, and I have no idea how to handle "do...while" loops or "ternary statements". :(

    My last exam is CS141, and I have no idea how to handle "do...while" loops or "ternary statements". :(

    Hey, PopePalpatine!

    do-while loops can be considered a different version of while loops. Because the condition - what you place in the brackets after the while statement- of a do-while loop is placed at the end of the loop whatever is in the loop executes first before checking the condition statement. the opposite is true of a while loop. Basically, while loops are executed zero or more times, but do-while-loops are executed one or more times.

    while(x==true){ // Checks the condition and if true runs the loop.
    stuff...
    }

    do{ // Runs the loop.
    stuff...
    }while(x==true); //Checks the condition.

    Ternary statements are rarely useful but they sometimes come up in exams. Basically, the ternary operator, denoted by the symbol ?, differs from most operators in that it takes three variables into account - hence the name ternary, one up from binary - when running.

    int a=10;
    int b=2;

    int c = (a>b)? a : b; //If a is greater than b, c is assigned the value of
    // a. Otherwise it is assigned the value of b.

    Hope that was helpful. Good luck!

    Quick questions for Biology people;

    When writing essays, is there a specific structure to follow? I plan on just putting down all the information I know on the particular topic. I'd imagine there would have to be a logical structure but is there anything else to consider?

    Thanks!
