    Ow my head....
Played through 50 cc last night and couldn't get my jaw off the floor the entire time. Also haven't seen that much activity on my friends list in a long time!

Good times ahead and might try the online tonight.

ilI was thinkin the same on the friends list thing. Great to see loads of people online. We just need to start playing together. Join games online etc...alongside tournaments.

Its a stunning looking game as well alright.

I hope to be back on tonight.

Hi lads. I got a wii u today but I keep getting disconected from the internet (I'm on UPC).

Works fine on xbox, ps3, apple tv etc but after a minute or two of being in the nintendo store or searching for a race on mk8 I get an error that I've been disconnected.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Might not have an effect but worth a shot. If you've got your internet settings on the console, set up for automatic DNS, try changing it to manual and using an alternative provider. Try http://www.opendns.com

Apart from not being able to get online I'm loving the wii u so far.

I haven't even taken Mario 3d world out of the plastic yet cause I'm can't stop playing mk8.

If youre getting disconnects set up your WII U manually with the google dns servers ie 8.8.8.8

Mine was the same on UPC but there was a fix on one of the Nintendo sites about using googles dns servers instead of upc`s.

    Heres the guide.

    http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1643/p/431/c/187/session/L3RpbWUvMTQwMTU1ODQ2NC9zaWQveks2Tm1GVmw%3D

Mine hasn't disconnected once since I changed it.

The other fix is to turn off wpa and wep security in the router setting--the wii u doesn't like wpa in upc`s router.

Turn off all security first so your network is open.
Then see if your wii u is working right.
If that works then use mac address filtering to only allow devices that you add to get access online.

I have mine set up with mac address security only.

Really is a Pringles thing with the wii u. Once you pop, etc..

If the nay sayers just tried it im sure theyd be hooked too. Such a great console.

Tried everything including the helpful tips here to connect to the internet and no joy.

Looking at the lan adapter on amazon it says 1 - 3 weeks usually to dispatch.

Any other sites I could get the official adapter on?

Also see some unofficial ones on ebay but not sure if they're any use.

I have an older, fatter version of this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00484IEJS/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Works perfectly for me.

Did you turn off wpa in the router settings.I'm almost sure that's you're problem.

Can't remember which thread all the Pro Controller chat was on, but there's a cheap chinese knock-off here

if you want something that costs around €20 and looks like a pro controller, but who's actual performance may vary.... (courtesy of HUKD)

I have that one too and it's magnificent! Feels so much nicer in the hands than the official Pro controller.

The plastic on it is a bit cheap but the functionality more than makes up for it.

Even though it says fulfilled by amazon, it wouldn't let me put in an order for this because they say it cant be shipped here :(

I used Parcel Motel to get around that.

So, would anyone here recommend a HDD to use on the Wii U? I've run outta space on the 32gb flash. I know Ninty recommend some on their site but is there other ones I should have a look at, and do i HAVE to use an extrenal plug for the HDD as they say?

Any HDD would do I'd say. I feel your pain although I have the 8gb model. Went to install the Wind Waker remake and only had 300mb internal memory left!

I'd definitely go with a drive with a Y splitter as the Wii U doesn't output enough power via USB to power a drive properly.

Kinda lost me there :o do you mean a plug socket for the USB drive?

I had an older Toshiba HDD (about 5 years old) that I tried to use but the Wii U just didnt recognize it at all, maybe because it doesnt have a plug, just the usb connection.

Even with a Y split cable, it still won't power/recognise some drives. I'd my iomega eGo HDD connected up, and it didn't see it at all.

The Y cables look something like this:

So you can basically connect it to the two USB ports.

I have a 32G sdhc card put into a USB adapter and it works fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

You may be able to put an SDXC card into a USB adapter then, if you format it correctly. I have a 64GB card in my 3DS after a bit of messing around with a few partitioning tools.

It would, but because of the number of reads/write operations, it'll burn the SD card out much faster than usual, and way faster than a standard drive.

Its ridiculous that i've a 64GB USB3.0 memory stick that i got for about 30 euro, that is faster and has more storage than the entire console. And the "Premium" one at that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,276 ✭✭✭readyletsgo

Ok, but if anyone has actually bought a hdd for their WiiU did you use external power or can I get a WD passport hdd and just use that? This extra power supple is ridicules.

Just give me a WiiU with 500gb Nintendo!

In fairness there's a bit of a difference in price between nand flash memory & a usb stick. The nand flash memory has to last the lifetime of the console in terms of read write cycles, your usb stick on the other hand, would be toast after a while of use.

I bought a hard drive caddy for 15 euros online.

Stuck an old 120 gb drive in it that was lying around.

Went for a powered caddy though as my old one was acting up even with the y splitter.

Changed the drive last week to a 1tb one that I had spare--a bit overkill really but at least I can store everything on the external.

Thanks for the replies. I emailed the seller and he said he'll get onto amazon because it should ship to Ireland. If that doesn't work Ill set up a parcel motel account.

Started playing Mario 3D World. Absolutely loving it!!

    How'd you manage that Banjo?

Would love to do that myself.

Could you maybe PM me how you did it so as not to go off topic?

    Would really appreciate it!

    PMed :)

BTW on the ProController front, given Amazon are quoting a 1-2 week wait before dispatching and a price of £30 it might be worth looking at importing - someone on Hukd mentioned Nippon-Yassan in the comments of a recent Pro Controller deal, so I took a look. They sell the Pro Controller for around €21 in black or white, and the cheapest shipping with insurance is €7ish (€4.50 if you want to waive the insurance and tracking). Shipping takes 1-2 weeks. Not too shabby for the official controller. Unless you get hit by customs, of course :)
