Yup! You register the game on the Nintendo website regardless of where/how it was purchased

The sensor bar doesn't come with the Basic 8GB model.


Gamestop are a joke. In fact all the shops are and their staff are clueless. I know it would be bad overall if they went the way of GAME but they'd really deserve it and are a rip-off.

Wii sensor bars work fine yeah, they're just led's but the port it connects to for power is the exact same.

wiimotes work fine, all wii peripherals, maybe some that are obscure won't, like i dunno, that udraw pad from ubisoft.
wiimotes nunchucks, wii motion adapters and wiimote+'s, classic controllers etc. work for sure at least.

mario kart 8 probably doesn't use a sensor bar anyway, from what I've seen you hold the wiimote sideways and move that way, or maybe connect a nunchuck if you can't do motion controls.

As it's ergonomically designed it actually feels rather nice in the hands. Trust me you won't regret it. Plus the fact that it works on the original Wii makes it nice for emulators too.

I'd be very surprised if you're unhappy with them. I much prefer mine to the Pro controller... especially for the pressure triggers as opposed to trigger buttons.

I'm planning to get digital copy of MK8 tomorrow, and get zelda with the offer.

How long does it take to download and install one of these games? Can you download one game while playing another? Thanks.

How long it takes depends on server load and the speed of your connection so... that's a 'how long is a piece of string' kinda question.

For the new Wii U owners :
If you bought a cheap Wii U with Nintendoland it may be an unpatched release day model. There's a MASSIVE patch coming your way before you can do anything fun. Plug in and configure your internet connection now so you can find out BEFORE the game is released. I would hope the more recent models are patched but this is Nintendo so better not to assume

When you kick off a download on the Wii U it will download in the background while the console is on and connected to the net. If you turn off the console, the download should pause. Note : All those stories of Wii Us getting bricked because they were turned off while downloading games were apparently hyperbole.

However, when the download is complete it runs through the installation automatically. If you turn off the Wii U at this point it will complete the installation before powering off fully - the LED goes Orange, not red. DON'T unplug it at this point. Wait for the LED to go red.

Large downloads can become corrupt if you power off the Wii U mid-way. If like me you like to unplug stuff when going to bed so your house is less likely to burn down, you are better off to unplug your router/internet connection, let the download time out (takes about a minute) so it pauses itself and THEN power off and unplug the Wii U.

If you're downloading to external storage, when you're external storage is disconnected the download appears with a red X and a "download failed" message. DO NOT DELETE THE DOWNLOAD. It'll resume next time you power on with the external storage attached

Speaking of internal storage, removing or connecting a drive while the WiiU is up and running will cause it to have a mickey fit. Don't do it. Especially if you've just gotten past that really annoying jump on NSMBU but haven't finished the level yet.

Oh, another thing on External Storage - once it's present all downloads should default to it. However, Save Games can default to it too. If you don't have your hard drive connected/powered up all the time, you can find that you fire up a game and your save game is gone. Just power off, connect up the drive, then boot up and move the save into onboard persistent memory.

Don't buy Trine 2 if it's not on sale. It goes on sale every couple of weeks. It's excellent, but don't piss your money up the wall

If you own a game on the Wii VC you can buy it on the Wii U virtual console at a significant discount. The Wii Shop can still be accessed from the virtual Wii. You can buy Wii shop points from the Nintendo Stars Catalogue. If you have Wii Shop points and want to buy stuff on the Wii U VC, it's always worth going the points route and upgrading in order to save a few euro. These VC upgrades count as purchases for any eShop offers (eg the Mario Kart discount, or the buy 3 Street Fighters, get 4th free)

Wii U Gamecube controller adapter announced!

Thank god! Not because I particularly love the GC controller but taking the gamecube ports away left the Wii U in such a horrible state for multiplayer games.

Having to use a mix of gamepad, wiimote and wiimote + nunchuck was silly.

Hopefully it's not just a once off for Smash Bros.
