Could be a rebody but appears to be a 51chassis anyhow. Hard to know if it's genuine or not but you'd have to give it the Benefit of the doubt. If motor check had come up with a 70's 240z you could question it alright.

Actually my wheels has it as a 212 so appears to be genuine.

Ok... have a look at this... a 'real one' would be valued at about 8/10 million (give or take a million)...

Do you think it's a recreation with a dodgy chassis no.?
There are some very wealthy people in Ireland and a purchase like that isn't an indulgence but a rock solid investment, one with the added bonus of being an absolute pleasure to invest in.
I don't know if it's the real McCoy or not but I'm not going to doubt it because it wears a ZV plate.
    Unless you know any different?

I don't know, that's why I put it up here, in case anyone actually saw the car. I know the chassis number, but that is the confusion. The number is the same as a 212 that competed in the 1951 Leige Rome Leige, but with different bodywork. There is no doubt it's a Ferrari, and I have plenty more photos, it's just the chassis number that is the confusion. Maybe it is the Leige car... I just know if it were me, and I had the kind of money that these fetch, I would have restored it as original. Because all these cars were hand built to begin with, it's very difficult to tell.

Ah ok, it is very possible that the car was rebodied in the more desirable barchetta style during the 80's, as has happened to many a lesser 250 series turned into a GTO or SWB. Possibly accident damaged either?

As said I saw it in Killaloe/Ballina last summer however it drove past me on the road.

If it is of any use it was during the Cannonball rally but it wasn't part of the rally. It was driving out of Ballina towards the N7. Somebody else must have seen it however but as I said, it didn't seem to be part of the rally event.

A fella with a J and a P in his name owns that Ferrari, (he doesn't drink) and it's genuine afaik.

You'd be amazed what's here in Ireland hidden away, some pleasure in paying 200 vrt on an 8 million motor and 56 tax :D

No, I did not. Mr Peugeot was trying to sell a "paperwork" for a 1979 Land Rover...

  • Registered Users Posts: 463 ✭✭Testacalda

He mentioned that the vehicle was gone too far for restoration. In that case, seems as it was no use to him anymore, you would think he would have sold what was left of the chassis, along with its correspoding paperwork.

The world is in a state of chassis.

It doesn't seem to be currently taxed anyway to be fair.

lol, I'd have no issue with someone selling a shell and a taxbook. They are doing no wrong even if the next guy down the road almost certainly will be.

Slightly tangential here as it's not done for the usual vintage tax but not entirely unrelated as it's being sold with a brown log book and is notionally 25 years old

Gives new meaning to the white elephant

    [Edit]

Scratch that, just looked at the side view and the dashboard, this may actually be a genuine '91 with the later wings/bonnet/bumper welded on but it would make you wonder how bad it was in the first place

Wow. You falsely suggest someone is doing something dodgy, then when you discover you were possibly wrong, although you do correct yourself, you begrudgingly suggest that the thing is a pile of ****e😡
This particular thread is the one that generally colours my view of boards.ie classic car section and is one of the main reasons I frequent other forums that actually talk about classic cars, and rarely come on here.

Because many other forums dont talk about the real issues in the classic car scene. Ringing is a massive issue in the Irish scene for the last few years. Many lads just don't realise how bad it actually is, and/or will bury their head in the sand about it.

I will say boards as a platform is dying a death now though,it's not as good as it once was. Nor can I believe this thread is 4 years old.

a lot shy away from the topic because they or their mates are involved and have a tendency to attack anyone verbally who dares speak out. Had a bit of that myself! .

Boards and many other Forums (fora? Forii? ) has declined in the face of Social Media. Shame really.

    Forums (fora? Forii? ) .

    [Off topic warning]

Not all words that end in --um have a plural ending in --a for example you never see the plural 'ba' do you?

[Conundrum, fulcrum, pendulum, plum, and that is just off the top of my head]

    .

Ringing is huge and most people (and other forums) just bury their heads in the sand when it comes to ringing. Just look at the amount of logbooks for sale! When I just got the Escort, we had four offers of logbooks with people saying "sure why pay the VRT when this is much cheaper". I wanted to have the cars paperwork sorted as its such a rare Escort.

I've been looking at getting another car and lost count of cars that had inconsistencies in their paperwork with mismatching numbers or missing numbers

My soon to be restored VW Fastback will emerge in the new year, with a new number.

Its not a ringer, but has had a rotten chassis replaced with a restored one, and as such

the old chassis and number has gone to the scrappie. AS it should.

I could have cut out the chassis number plate, and welded it into the new chassis,

but i,m thinking original number has to stay with original metal, or rust in this case.

So I dont expect to see my car in the Elephant thread:)

good for you. Now you don't have to look over your shoulder all the time and can ensure you are properly insured.

Correct. I wouldn,t drive any car, classic or otherwise with no insurance.

And the scrapped chassis went to the dump, and the vehicle now has an end of life cert.

Even though I could have legally sold the scrap metal plate with the logbook. I believe

that facilitates ringing, unless of course the new owner wanted to rebuild a car around this plate.:rolleyes:
