A drinker can only drink so much,a junkie can only do so many drugs but a gambler can gamble everything.

What about alcoholics and addicts who drink or snort the fame farm away. Who spend all their money getting wasted at every opportunity.

    Anything can become an addiction.

    Slot machines are no different.

Adults are responsible for their own actions and their consequences.

A gambler can hide it for such a long time ...and by the time you find out it's too late, everything can be lost.

Drink and drugs can have the same destructive power.

The major difference is that gambling can be far more easily hidden. Alcohol and drug abuse have physical symptoms. Gambling doesnt

It's an 'instant' version of investing in stocks & shares. As with any type of spending, the same rules apply - don't spend what you can't afford to lose.

I think most people will cut themselves off after a certain point even though they may want to chase losses. Common sense kicks in the same way it does when you're drinking...

If you continue to have 'just one more' drink and end up in a hospital bed or jail cell, not many people will feel sorry for you. Gambling is a similar 'problem' which requires a similar solution. That solution isn't easy or overnight and ultimately it's down to the individual's commitment to change which in most cases is brought about by a sudden realisation you've hit rock bottom and have started negatively impacting on the lives of loved ones.

Never seen a bookie on a bicycle.I have been to Vegas.Their whole business model is if you keep playing for long enough, you will lose.Thats why casinos have no windows ,clocks etc.EVERYONE loses eventually

    Thats not strictly true.

I've had several winning trips to vegas. It depends on what you are playing. The house has an edge on practically every game bar poker.

The house makes money on poker without affecting your chances of winning

not particularly,it's called getting yourself in a **** load of debt.

My initial point was that drink and drugs are just as destructive as gambling.

    Thats still my point.

The majority of people only gamble what they can afford, I love sitting down for a few hours playing a few sit and go's online in poker, or have a few quid on the football.

Do we still believe the investment stuff.

Some gamble on stocks, some on property, some on the lotto, others on their own skills in card games.

Some would have you believe that some forms of gambling are more moral than others.

So to those criticizing gamblers, do you have a house? A pension fund?

Gambling addiction can spiral out of control very quickly by believing you can win back what you've lost. The hole just gets deeper and deeper

Investments in a raw terms is gambling, you put money into something with the hope of a return.

Never bought a house in the boom, wasn't stupid enough to buy a 300K+ shoebox.

as for a pension,i don't contribute privately,i have 3 pensions waiting for me.
