I've been out there quite a few times not much CGI needed to make it look remote, scary, ancient, holy, spiritual etc to be honest.

Or, it'll be Luke, actually on earth, in kerry, as a guest of some irish monks..

    stranger things have happened

It's a widely held belief in Kerry that Maurice Fitzgerald was a Jedi.

Tempted to get a glimpse myself.

Strange picture uploaded by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, 300, Watchmen)...

Perhaps he should look up on his Star Wars lore though, as Henry Cavill looks more like a Sith than any Jedi.

I'd say that's just to set the fanboys into a frenzy with Comic-Con on this weekend.

Well if filming is happening in Kerry, seems like the idea would be to watch out for appearances by the cast on the streets of Kilarney or wherever. That'll give the best clue as to what the island serves as in the plot....

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Right, I'll watch Kerry airport, you watch Killarney. Anyone fancy taking Cahirciveen? :p

Ireland has plenty of remote looking places for fantasy/apocalyptic set movies the tourism borad/government whoever looks after that side of things could really push the country more as a viable filming location. Look how well the North has done out of Game of Thrones. Wasn't Lord of the Rings meant to have some sequences shot here? the Burren looks like Rohan in fairness.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this, Abrams seems like he's enough of a fan to not sh1t all over it but isn't only interested in paying fan service for three movies and wants the saga to progress/conclude in an organic way. Waiting so long could be a masterstroke in the end product. An aging Jedi master Luke is just a perfect plot point.

I think it's going to be great and I can't wait to see what they do with it.

I'm cautiously optimistic also, think they'll definitely be better than eps1-3.

TBH you can't really compare to the originals and new SW films better than none IMO as nonthing can take away from the originals and ill always have them in gorgeous HD on blu ray to watch.

If it's as good as the new star trek films ill be very happy, and i think they might be.

They'll need to be significantly better than his Star Trek reboots.

From The Guardian website today. Some of the comments:

The craic is strong with this one.

    Admiral Ackbar: It's a craic!

Mesa called Jar Jar Binks. Wesa going to Ireland!

Leia you're a corker so you are.

Father Jed with an aging Boba Feck sat in the corner.

These galaxies are small but those galaxies are far, far away....

My lovely Force. (I'm loving that one):D

Mrs. Doyle "Ah Mr Chewbacca will you have a cup of tea, ah go on"
These aren't the Doyles you're looking for.

    The Empire Strikes Craic.

    Episode VII A New Pope.

    From Theforce.net

"No. I am your Father... Ted"

Sorry, but some of these cracked me up. Can you do any better?

I'll be ecstatic if they're even half as good as the first one.

I call this 'phantom menace syndrome'...it doesnt matter how good it is, the weight of expectation will probably crush it overall.

I think they'll be great and am keeping an open mind.

Yeah but the phantom menace was utter sh1te, the expectation had nothing to do with a piss poor script and bored actors. it was Lucas and his yes men.

thats true...though i think i preferred phantom menace to attack of the clones, which was just embarrassing and unneccessary

    Mark Hamill is here!

It's not his first time in Ireland though. He visited John Boorman in Wicklow with Lee Marvin while shooting The Big Red One.

As an aside, isn't that bloody gorgeous?

If the movie is even half good, it'll immortalise the islands as something very iconic, not just as in the movie series.

We all know in SW, there's the thing were each planet has only one setting.
I'm expecting a global ocean with two islets. :P
