    'scam'? that's not a scam.

a scam requires guile, cunning etc. the word 'item' was enough to give him away.

    still, funny stuff.

I think the best way to deal with this is to actually send a box containing one of your sh1tes to the address. Sure you will lose out on the postage to Nigeria but definitely worth it to think of his face when he opens the box thinking its an iPhone only to be greeted with last nights ham and cabbage!

I have a phone up for sale on done deal and my head is done in with people trying to buy it for their uncle in nigeria, or cousin in nigeria. getting a ridiculous amount of spam emails off them

did the name Adeyemi O*****n not sound warning bells with you?

Yes, but it was the fact that he wanted to overpay prior to that was what tipped me off first.

You Should get a padded Envolope and take a big hardy Dump in it and send it to his address...

    Great post O.P.

Huston is probably on to the Nigerian version of Liveline warning listeners of suspect irish dealers on donedeal.

You should write stuff for Pat Shortt....it's great material!

Its a pity, Donedeal.ie is a great site and is ruined by this b*ll**** lately. I would probably set up a temp email account for new ads in future.

I wouldnt use it again to be honest. I use adverts more because people can verify their address, get feedback and you can generally just check out that they are genuine! Its a lot nicer to use. and the people I have met to buy or sell with are always really lovely!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,285 ✭✭✭tfitzgerald

I had a laugh too writing it. Aye, il post up any more emails I get. Any suggestions on what I could say to him next? Word of warning though, it will have to impress keith16...

Yes but is it really keith16 or has he a second name called Houston. Brillent post op best of the year so far for me

email him a pic of an iphone beside his address label. then tell him you are stuck for E2.30 to post it and get him to paypal it to you. you can return it after "Paypal" clears.

Sorry for the second post. But this is a great idea change the 2:30 to €15 and see what happens

Thats true. In my own experience, from using both, expensive stuff gets slightly better money on donedeal compared to on Adverts, such as laptops and mobile phones (I suspect "Adverteers" are more computer savvy and know the value of electronics better than donedealers). This is the one main reason I use it for old laptops mobile phones and the likes. However, I am a big fan of the haggling and general selling banter on Adverts. Also, as you said, the Feedback and detail verification is really good too. Small things like peeps on donedeal asking "whats your best price" drives me up the wall as well.

Yeah that happens on adverts too. you very very rarely get the asking price which can be annoying! But I feel safer selling through it so I suppose it is the price you pay. I did manage to sell my phone in the end through done deal recently and I got the asking for it a day or so into it. Where as with adverts it was up for almost 2 weeks and the comments were mostly idiots offering me a pittance for it

to avoid such spam just when putting the ad in deselect the contact by email tick box and your done.Half of the spammers will be gone, but then you will get some messages like this: hi there im intrested in blab bla bla item your selling, please tell me is it still for sale how much and dont contact me by phone or sms as i cant read them on my phone (*anker how did you manage to send one sms then :D) my email is:sdsafkjh@nigerian.scamer.ng :pac:
cant believe there are still people foaling for such stuff.
Or you can troll them, like i did recently where i got usual you won billions from south africa shell company lottery :D,offered guy half of the money to come over to dublin with the cash in hand that we could go out clubbing, dude never came

That is so funny, I had pretty much the exact same thing happen to me last week! I did play along with : Collins Olaiya
: Plot 10, Elere Area Apata
    : Ibadan
    : Oyo state
    : 23402
    : Nigeria
but It was no way as funny as yours.. they also went by the name Katie Reecce< and the next day Katie Reace!! (as an email address)
I was hoping that this Collins Olaiya "might" be a real name or at least the address so I forwarded it to the local police station around that address notifying them of this scam...anyway, thanks for the laugh and good look with the guinea pigs!!

You really must sort the central locking on the zetor. If you email Houston he's such a genuine guy I'm sure he,d come over and help you with the lambing season......
