As a person who has always stood up and defended myself when the time needed it, this has made me respect and like Punk more.

How many people here in their place of work would let someone punch them in the kidney and slap them in the back of the head and not retaliate? Very very few would be my guess.

Yes he got the wrong person but he had his back to the person that did it and could not see who it was. I know I would have done the exact same thing given the situation.

The difference is, most people's place of work isn't on live television on a show which seems to be mostly aimed at young kids. Most younger people wouldn't have really noticed or paid attention to how Punk was being slapped and shoved, they would have just seen Punk go mental at some random dude.

It's bad publicity when they really don't want bad publicity, and Punk should have known better. Nor should he have reacted as he did. One hit, maybe. But he hit him again after that. As stupid and idiotic as it is, the crowd pushing and just generally trying to touch wrestlers is inevitable. What happens next time Punk goes into the crowd, because asshats are going to try and get Punk to hit them too, or push/hit him knowing that Punk would be more hesitant to hit back now.

On Tuesday afternoon, WWE released the following official statement:
“During Monday night’s Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring and into the stands as part of the show. Unfortunately, WWE security was not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punk’s persona as a ‘bad guy,’ fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him, and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.”
I think the whole situation sucks,” Punk told WWE.com. “It’s an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded.”
“Somebody said, ‘let’s push him down the stairs,’” Punk explained. “I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched…Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize. I’m really just glad nobody was hurt."

The guy has a warm face and broken glasses :p

If you jump the barrier to try and get in the ring or something retarded, then expect to be knocked out.
However, the reverse should be the same. If you are a mega heel, which punk was on monday and venture into the crowd, what did he expect?

Although, i was thinking about this yesterday and it reminds me a lot of the jericho smacking a woman situation. Lot of fans were calling for his blood but at the end of the day it was securities fault more than any other single entity.

Maybe wwe should start using their own arena security for this kind of thing.

The difference in that situiation is that the woman assaulted him, by the letter of the law. The guy punk hit did nothing (even though punk thought he did!)

I think it's fair to expect not to get shoved and punched.

If you go to a show, you should respect that the people preforming for you are actors. They are there for your entertainment; even though they may want you to display a faux hatred, they are not willing to get attacked, no matter how good they are at generating heat. As a audience member, you don't get the right to assault a wrestler, even if they come into the crowd. It's one thing to want to touch them or be close to them, but it's another to start pushing them and punching them.

Im not doubting that, i'm just saying that in both incidents the biggest factor is the lack of security.

Exaggerate much? You're making it sound like Punk was run over by a truck. He got a few pushes and smacked around the first person he came into contact with. Easy solution would have been to take a couple of steps forward or backwards. Punching the head off someone isn't how to respond.

Ah yer man was being a ponce putting on his glasses cause he was on tv, hit Punk in the process and got hit, just take the free stuff, whatever Vince gives you and get your meeting and picture with CM Punk ffs, Americans and their suing

Lucky they had the obligatory OTT black guy reaction too in front of them :D

Had to post this because it is true.

It's funny to me that non-american's think all of us americans are like the ones they see on a wwe youtube video. Yes, our country has plenty of retards in it, but so does yours!! I'm not on here dissing your country so stop dissing mine!! Were not all like the guys in the video..

Can't believe I've actually read that - had to read it twice to make sure I wasn't making an error.

Excuse me, but since WWE is scripted very much like a drama, how does that excuse the punching and slapping he received? Fans have no rights to play around with people whether they are heel or otherwise, nor should WWE stars 'expect' to get mauled - fans have no right to place their hands on a member of the programme which they paid to see. It is very much an abuse and I'm surprised it can be justified away with sweeping statements like that.

Punk was in the right imho.

I believe Punk was in the right! He hit the wrong guy, granted but watch the footage closely and you'll see he almost fell down the steps! In wrestling your greatest tool is your body! If he fell down the steps and was injured he'd be screwed and so would the WWE!
The top face and the champion out of action would surely balls up everything for Vince!

Battery has a wide sweeping legal definition, At it simplest it occurs when you physically touch another person without their permission, something as innocent as that can constitute battery.

Assault is the fear of battery, so by certain fans saying "push him down the stairs", that in itself is a legal offence. Punk as the victim has the right to defend himself using reasonable force and not exceeding that. If it made court these are the kind of points which would be discussed. The setting and circumstances would obviously be taken on board also.

MODS, I think a poll is in order on this! Was Punk right or wrong to strike a fan ?

Maybe you should read it again as you have clearly missed my point.
Some shoving or pushing should have been expected and as a result more security should have been ready to deal with it.

Here's a scenario for you (and all of the people who think Punk was wrong)
You're on a crowded flight of stairs, there's at least three people around you who are pushing you (You've almost fallen a couple of times). One of the guys to your left gives you a dig in the back.
    Do you:
    A)ask "who did that?"
B)Let them push you around. (At the risk of falling and receiving an injury)
    C) Let fly at the guy closest to you (because you believe it was him) and send a message to the other two guys that you're not to be messed with!

Punk used reasonable force he hardly battered your man (It wasn't an Open hand slap either)

I really hope they don't take the belt off him at Hell In A Cell because of this!! they need him as champion!!

I dont think anything will come out of this. On a different note i thought it was one of the better Raws this year. And Vince did amazingly well for a non-wrestler in his late 60s. Loved the part where he flung Punk over the announcers table :D

It was a fantastic raw. Wonder will Vince feature on the show next week.

    You forgot:
    D) Move down two or three steps and be perfectly safe.

But in this made up scenario, are you the current face of a multi million dollar company and on live TV aimed at a young audience? Didnt think so.

If you think that was reasonable force, I'd hate to see what you consider unreasonable. Does he have to shot him or something?

I thought this was one of the best Raws of the year. I enjoyed nearly everything.

In regards to the Punk incident, I didn't see it at the time but if it's true that the guy he hit had nothing to do with it then I'm afraid his actions are indefensible. I would expect the least he can do is apologise to the fan and hope legal action does not result.

Im guessing theyll know before then if Cena is healed enough to compete in time for HIAC. If not, then Ryback

cena looked in bad shape on monday night, the bit where he had to throw punk back in the ring his arm was completely limp and even you could see him wince straight after

Can the third option be "My knees hurt just thinking about it!"?

I wonder if Vince returning affected the ratings.

Half a Million extra viewers iirc. Tna should give Flair a call and have somebody beat the crap out of him too. Not sure if it'd move the ratings dial but i'd enjoy it.
My brother told me earlier that Heyman was involved in writing this weeks show is that true?

What about Ryback's new nickname - The Big Hungry! :D Who comes up with this? haha

There is a video of Al Snow talking about how much food Ryback ate during Tough Enough years ago, bet it stems from that, or maybe Ryback spent some time on his knees with Doc Hendrix:eek:;)
