Calling this a bargain alert. Followers of this pnone will know it was 400€ for Pay as you Go, now down to 199.99€ (and lower with online purchase and Fatcheese) in O2 shops

Only a year on the market if that.
Picked up one myself today, well pleased.

Windows phone 8 is due out with the next month, hence the bargain I suspect. Will upgrade to WP7.8 though?

Good price. But you won't be getting Win Phone 8. You will get the new home screen, though.

AFAIK this applied to the original firmware but was fixed in a later update.

Yes, it does update to 7.8.

I have one and got herself one too. Battery is fine as long as you have it up to date with the latest firmware. If you leave it on wifi all day, it'll be short, but it's fine other than that.

I can get just short of 2 days after a full charge and using it for work emails / browsing, calling.

    It's at a great price!

Does anyone know how much would it cost to unlock one of those? I'm currently with 48 and don't want to switch to o2.

How does one avail to the 10% off with priority moments? I go through the order and until the confirmation page still shows €199.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 907 ✭✭✭angeline

That's a really good bargain. I'm with O2 and have been watching the Lumia range, couldn't decide which one to get. I know a lot of people are waitng for the 820 and 920 to come out but at that price I'd defo buy that. Must check reviews on it. Cheers for that info!

I've only been able to find one crowd online to do it and they want €45.

Any ideas how to get the 10% off code?

48 is o2, different branding; same company.

I have used Lumia 900 since June and my gf has Lumia 800. Both are great phones and it is a bargain on that prize. Both phones has free music and gps navigator and which you dont usually get when you buy a new phone.

But the 48 sim card won't work in this phone because it will be locked to o2...

48 are a virtual provider on the o2 network so it will work.

You have to register with O2 priority offers and you'll get a code for that. I'll fet on with them in the next few days as it seems the offer is running Thursday to Sunday, although I couldn't get the 10% off for the last 3 hours, my code didn't get recognized and the total was still €199.

Are you sure about this? I know 48 use the o2 network but i thought a 48 sim wouldn't work in an o2 locked phone, the same as the way tesco mobile sims wouldn't work even though there using the o2 network also.

Pity the camera and SQ wasn't better or I'd jump on it.

48 are owned by o2 but their sims don't work in o2 phones, I checked. Tesco sim cards don't work in o2 phones either.

Nokia will publish Lumia 920 next month. It will have the best camera in mobile phones. I think it will cost about 650 euros "unlocked"

One thing to bear in mind if you are considering a Windows phone is that whilst there is a Skype app available it doesn't run in the background so is just about useless for receiving Skype calls. The last official comment that I am aware of from Skype 2 weeks ago still doesn't confirm if Skype will run in the background with either WP7.8 or WP8.

Whilst it is widely expected that Skype will be integrated into WP8 and should also run in the background with WP7.8 no one seems to know for sure.

Soo disappointed. On the O2 site on boards a rep told me that the €199 price was an error and that they are updating it...........................

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

Its that price in the O2 shop I asked in though.

I was told in the o2 store the price was dropped due to overstocking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 907 ✭✭✭angeline

Oh the confusion! Lisa from O2 is now saying that the price will remain at 199 euro!!

I assume they are selling these off to clear stock before Windows Mobile 8 comes in. Which this can't upgrade to. It will be replaced by the 820. The other 610, and 710 must surely fall shortly too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 210 ✭✭perrier

Its a great phone but Microsoft announced already that none of these phones will be able upgrade to Windows 8 when launched in a few weeks. They will get some features of the "Windows 8 experience".

I have the phone the last 2 months and for 200euro its a steal. Everything just works on it plus most importantly its a brilliant phone.

Ensure it has Windows phone 7.5 software on it, add in a few apps and away you go...

It should be noted that in the last few months sales of the Lumia range in Europe have done well, so their is a lot around this will ensure its continued support from Nokia post the 820 launch.

It's £149 in the UK with o2, which is €186.

Yeah but with postage you'd be paying 200 euro anyway. The 610 is a low budget mobile for 149 euro so to get the 800 for €199 is good I think.

Does anybody have a definitive answer as to whether this will work with a 48 sim?

needs to be sim free to work with it

From what I can gather an unlock code from an online crowd won't work and any unlocking shop I've gone to say the phone needs to be sent away to be unlocked and they still can't guarantee it will unlock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,076 ✭✭✭Eathrin

    Out of stock now.
Typical, I didn't have funds until today.
Hopefully this will become available again, possibly another retailer.

It's out of stock alright on the O2 website but I went to the O2 shop today and they have loads left as they're making way for the new Nokia 920.

Anyone know of any stores or irish websites that allow you to trade in your old phone (mine is only a year old, but Im not mad on android) for a decent price?

The Lumia 800 can be sim-unlocked for free, thanks to fine folks at xda-developers. It does require flashing a new ROM to the phone, but then it's a simple unlock with NSS, Nokia's care suite.

(I haven't done this myself, so I'd suggest anyone interested read into it fully before committing)

If you buy it from carphone warehouse it should be unlocked any way.

Why does everyone assume the phones from cpw will be unlocked. The 800 shouldn't be anyway.

From what I can work out you need to have Qualcomm OSBL and not Nokia DLOAD to use that unlock.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

I think one of the links in there also covered flashing the bootloader to the Qualcomm one. I think that's possible for all phones now, but not 100% sure.

I've bought phones from them that were unlocked. Plus, it makes sense from their point of view.
