Well i finally gave it a go as a trial yesterday.

    i am subbed now for 3 months... :o .

I tried it few years ago and it was like hitting a brick wall, but they improved noob learning a lot! the whole agent thing etc.

i presume this forum is prety dead, but hey, there might be some people around here! I am on my last 10/10 mining/industrial agent mission now. waiting 1h for that ship to be built. after that i am rewarded with new ship. i presume how it will do and i will try to look in to what ship do i get next.

Once you have the basics down which you should have after doing the tutorials. Either join Eve-uni (a corp that runs itself like a school for eve and will teach you in all aspects of the game) OR if you rather just jump in and see what happens go onto the eveonline.com forums, go to the recruitment section and find a pvp corp that advertises the take on new players and will teach them how to pvp well.

Like yourself I had many failed attempts at starting eve, What changed it for me was that on one of my attempts I found a great corp that showed me how to pvp well. After that the game just opened up.

i am not interested in PVP yet. i am more of a grinder miner! :o i am doing those tutorials. did the industry one and now doing the military one. last part of it in fact.

i heard there is some sort of new pvp aspect? like litle battlegrounds?

Lol don't do it, EvE is even more of a life sucker than WoW

See this is were it gets bad.

    *fade to old scene*

There I was, sitting at a POS waiting for Cyvok and the rest of ASCN to show up so that we can move out. Was waiting for 45 minutes (god when i look back we were ****e). I start thinking,

"You know what would be really great? An alt that I could run missions in while waiting for fleet form ups. Hell I could get him up on courier missions, sure they are half afk anyway!. In fact I could get some manufacturing skills aswell and round out my skills to support my main! God D you're a genius!"

Fast forward a year: "Yeah I could totally use my alt to support my pirate main in lo-sec hell he could even scout for me, no I'll get another alt with perfect scanning skills."

    time passes...

You know what would make this wormhole go faster? A fourth account!

Forward 6 years: "God I really need another alt!"

    Edit: I may have to re-subb: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=14947130

Hehe. I totally know what you mean m8! I was mining and was thinking: "you know, it would be really handy to have a second account in retriever just to mine mad haul my **** when I am in covetor/hulk. Then I could do missions, while main account mining....

    *subed second account...

With 2 accounts I haven't played any more games now... And I got like 20 games on steam that I haven't even started once... I got batman Arkham city installed and ready to go for the last 2 months... Not even touched...
I really became eve addict. It's one of the rare games, which makes your progress very satisfying. I look at my main char and I am really proud of it and see how much time I have invested in to it.

Though I did got my arse handed to me on security mission II on my alt :D. Repairs costed already more then reward and had to call it a day. Not a big deal though, I got almost 1bill in cash and lots of ore already, so doing missions on alt is more of a training and standing farming. :) these fails makes me do more research in to fittings, modules, setups, skills. Feck, it's awesome.
It is really surprising how much I enjoy this game and I never was a fan of starwars, spaceships etc. I remember how I hated startreck and stargate on TV. ( still hate it lol )

i am looking at 3 screens atm.

screen nr. 001 - Main char mining Pyroxeres in retriever
screen nr. 002 - Alt char doing level II missions in caracal and should be able to fly drake tonight.
screen nr. 003 - Black books season 2 episode 4 on netflix

Yes, i do honestly hate startreck and very meh about starwars :D

i really love EVE, but spaceship is just part of this love, i just really love open sandbox game like this. economy, fighting, universe, "assholes", pirates. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    Well today I made my first 1bill :D. ( it's 1.1bil now actually )

Would be waaaaaaaaaay more sooner, but I spent money on 2xdrakes + fittings and my second account is a complete money sink for now, I mostly losing money in missions lol, but it's fun and I get standing.

    Calling it a night :D.

You're making great progress, After a month you're a billionaire :). Save that money, you will need it for all the pvp you are going to get addicted to.

You're a far more patient person than I.
I train up all the skills necessary to be self sufficent but 10 / 15mins of mining later I give up. It just does my nut in >_<

I got them for ages now, but it helps to play EVE. :) watched all red dwarf and now going at it again from episode 1 lol. Finished watching black books 3 seasons too. Will check a good few old movies soon. :D

As for mining - it's OP as ****. I am still only mining with my main account and should have finished astrogeology 5 tomorrow, so I can start very long 16 day mining barge 5. It brings 4-5mil after each trip. Just afl mining.
Where's my alt now in drake doing level 2 missions and brings back only scraps from under the table. I can't imagine anyone actually make any proper profit goings missioning as a newb. I could throw 6mil on ship for missions level I and throw 50mil plus fittings on a drake. I can't imagine noob people able to do that...

Anyway, I am working on my standing to be able to do missions 3. Would I need to get raven for that or beefed up drake will survive? Plus what ship could've good for salvaging? I will start training my main to salvage so he can clean up and make some money on missions 3. I presume it needs to be semi fast and okay ish cargo?

Missioning I used to clear 4-5 mill with Reward Pay and selling the lucrative scraps (you have to salvage everything!) at Lvl5.
I couldn't stand mining, even so you can do it afk, I'd rather be doing something interactive to the point I have to think.

Looking at your setup makes me think 2 things,
    1. I need another monitor and a bigger desk and
    2. I want to go and fly my Tengu!!!!!

I think I have about 600mill sitting there in my account, not training anything.
As soon as the weather gets bad Ill be signing straight back up, just have to play all these other games first. (Dishonoured, Xcom being the two favourites...) cause once you get involved with Eve, it wont let you go (untill you run out of Money or Time)

I remember the Noctis being the best cleanup crew you could own. Hi Sec/WH only as there are no weapons.
Got Salvage Level 5? Tech 2 Salvagers FTW.

Lvl3' can easily be down in the Drake, as long as you are careful to fit the correct Damage Ammo for the enemy you are facing. Of course also fill the correct Hardeners / Shield Resistances. Once you're properly tanked and can take the beatings you'll rack up loads of Iskies to train your next ship.

Dont make the mistakes many including I have made; Train a ship well before you fly it in anger. Thats like walking through Brixton/Ballyfermut, drunk with a loose gold watch on your arm and Subaru keys hanging out of your pocket.

Well i guess my income will get better as soon as i iwll get to higher level missions. plus with other account scraping it will speed it up and make it less of a pain.

My table is not that big to be honest. its just a very great shape for multiple monitors. it is one of those corner job tables, so i can fit 3 monitors very handy on table in perfect angles for me. if you want ill be able to post you in private more photos of it from further to have better idea. ( i dont want to be called a show off and post it here lol )
I did got third monitor for surround setup, but after trying it out and realising how **** nvidia surround support is i gone back in to 3 separate monitors ( they still all coneected in on desktop, but its just 3x1080p instead of 7kx1080. I really love 2 monitors, but then i though 3 monitors are overkill if i dont use for suround... i was wrong. i actually want one more now above :D ( i am a bit psyco, i know )

i dont blame you for holding back on playing EVE. i am playing EVE only for last month or so... i got a full steam libary to finish and all my plans to do it untill XMAS sale went down the drain thx to EVE... :o
And i love that advice on ship training m8! :D so true! you better off flying good cheaper smaller ship, then flying expensive bullseye.

Ah they old which ship should I use to mission in.

You will get loads of different answers.
A well skilled drake will be able to do level 3

As for level 4s it depends

If you are using one account and want to salvage everything then get a marauder.

If you are using two accounts then marauder with 4 tractor beams and noctis with 8 salvagers.

If you want to Blitz missions then tengu/other T3 or a Mach.

Most people have a different opinions on this.

As for setups there is a wealth of information on this.
A simple low skill setup for 4s would be:
    Raven
    cruise missiles
    larger shield booster (not X-L)
    specific rat hardeners
DC and PDS (as your skill/equipment improve switch PDS for BCU)
a T1 Raven can manage all level4s if you take your time.

The last time I ran 4s it was in a pimped golem and I aggro'd everything and blitzed and salavaged as I went (I did not hang around when mission was complete, left some salvage as it was more profitable to just run to the next mission)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Aye. In eve opinions like assholes, everyone has them :D.

Well so my drake is doing all right I'm missions 3, but feck I get annoyed by frigates now. Little ****s are harder to kill then big ships... I tried target painter, but it's useless. Just before I logged off I got myself a web. I'll try it tomorrow.
I might drop pave training for some time and focus on getting that retriever so I could support my miner. So far I played both accounts at the same time and my miner made 200mil in a few days and mission pilot made maybe 10mil. I don't even talk about drake + fittings ended up be around 70mil +++ provided by miner.
So far missioning is a great training for me. Fitting ships, modules, rigs, types of damage, stats, signature. I guess I am not treating my missioning as a loss here, it's more of a free of care training in battlefield. I will give a go tomorrow again, but like I said I might just finish training for retriever and work purely for pvp.

I don't think you should even look at a marauder for the foreseeable future. You've only done a month of training, so if you want to rat in bling, get a faction battleship but don't do bsV until your core skills are stronger. I'd even be weary using a faction battleship for awhile yet.

A caldari navy raven or a navy issue dominix/mega dish out serious dps.

Lads, majorly stupid question now lol, bare with me here.

I LOVE Rokh, I want to fly it, even if it will mean just for ****s and giggles for now.
Money is not an issue, I can spend some training for it too, but is there a way for me using it for something? I presume it has a very specific role in gang pvp/ fleet conflicts as a sniper boat, but could I do some Pve or even pvp with it? I sow some fitting which was for 10km range in eve load outs. So Any help with that? I really like that ship :)

I know that feeling, ignore bonus' etc cause you like how a ship looks.

Well yeah, you can use it for both level 4's and fleet pvp. NC. and other alliances have fleet doctrines that use the rokh. They'd fit it somethin similar to this I'd imagine http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/27862-425mm-Rail-Rokh-sniper.html The idea is to have have massive alpha so when several Rokhs shoot the same target it will pop instantly, not giving enemy logistics a chance to rep it.

You wouldn't really use it for small gang roams though. I suppose you could fit it with blaster cannons for gate camps.

For Pve, somethin like this http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/57356-Lv4-Rokh-Post-Crucible.html should work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Ah, cheers man. Looks like I will just train for mild mining support and then go for Rokh or some frigate pvp.
It's hard to decide now as there will be a huge rebalance of ships with winter expansion. Plus the new caldari destroyer looks better then sex itself. :)

Havn't really experienced much of it outside mission running which is boring as hell, tough to find decent people to play with.

Just go on the eveonline forums, go to the recruitment section and look through some of the posts.

    Look for a corporation;
    -that's in a nulsec alliance,
-that are EU time zone (or american timezone if you prefer to play late into the night)
-that state they will train players with no pvp experience to pvp.

Within a few roams/gate camps/fleets you'll have a solid grasp on what to do and you can start enjoying eve because eve really is all about pvp!!

    Thread hijack.

So I just started Eve myself. First time proper playing bar a few days (many a moon a go) before.

Enjoying it so far. Thus far I've:

    Completed initial tutorial.
Complete 9 of 10 in the Industry tutorial. (the next part requires some mats that make me go into low sec zones where there are usually pirates that tear me a new one). Sure I could check the market for them but I have feck all cash so I'm saving while I do the other tutorials.

Now sitting about 3/4 way through the Business tutorial. This one has been a little boring. Mostly just courier work with a few very easy pirates thrown in. But hey, extra cash / equip / ships are worth it to me while I'm learning the system.

I'll probably hit a combat tutorial after this to learn what I am hoping will be the finer aspects of fighting. Thus far I just kind of race forward with whatever guns I have blaring in the hope I don't die first :)

One thing I really like about this game is the real time skill training. Set something training that'll a day or two but while actually in game, if there is something I want to learn with a quick learning time, I can just throw that in front of the queue and place the other on hold.

Anyway, I'm sure there is still plenty for me to do. Now.. where is my rust bucket so I can continue..

welcome to no life side m8. did you though already what will your alt do? :D

The noob tutorial missions dont send you in to low sec, its just an area with rats just for tutorial. read discription, it might be that you can buy materials to finish it. When you will do all the tutorial missions, you then have to decide what you want to do.
I am really happy to see you enjoying this game, but i have to warn you. Its not like any other mmorpg, which feeds content to you with shovels, making the treadmills just to justify you being there. This is a sandbox game, which means, you can do whatever you want and you make your own content. some wow/everquest people get lost in such sandbox game and then moan, that there is no content.
All game is run by player market. So your "end game" will be the goal you will decide. Keep in mind, that in game like this combat is not the only way progress. Some people combat the other people on market. others doing hauling contracts, some people like mining or manufacturing.

After you are done with tutorial, decide what you want to do and focus that route. if you dont like it, you can always go other root. the skill you learned already wont be gone. Then join a corporation, which is focused the route you want to go.

as for skill training: i love this system too. Even if you dont log in for the whole day, you know that your pilot still progress. This system has a downsides too. for example my main account is training for hulk/mackinow. It take new pilot to train 40 days to be able to fly it. i have 12 more days to go. so yeah.... it takes time lol :p

Well so my drake is doing all right I'm missions 3, but feck I get annoyed by frigates now. Little ****s are harder to kill then big ships... I tried target painter, but it's useless. Just before I logged off I got myself a web. I'll try it tomorrow.
Your drake has capacity for 5 small drones, take the agro on the drake before deploying drones, once you have agro launch your drones on the frigs while you go kill the bigger ships. Simples ^_^

Also level 4s are quite doable in a drake, just takes ages.

welcome to no life side m8. did you though already what will your alt do?

RE: Skills. To be honest, that is what I like. I knew straight away from looking at the system that later skills will take forever and a day to complete. But it makes it more "real" if you get my drift.
I started this looking for a game that does not require me to be hands on 24x7 and this is what I am hoping for. If I want to set an action going and do something else, I can. I still play wow too and Eve is not that taxing on my system so I can always run both if I am looking for something to do while Eve is busy doing something that will take a while.
So right now I've done the business tutorial (again up to the last missing because it wants an ore that I will need to buy off the market or upgrade to a better ship to take on the pirates guarding the asteroids containing said ore.
I've also done most of the exploration tutorial. Took me a while to get the hang of probe scanning but I think I have it down now. Got a bit frustrated in the beginning :pac:
Next up: I need to be able to take on pirates so military it is.

Still very much enjoying it. Obviously not playing constantly but it is nice to know that my character is still "learning" even when I'm not there.

Speaking of which, he should be finished his first long ish training of a day and a half. Time to go learn more :D

hmmmm i was doing those tutorials already on 2 accounts and i never had problems... i am quite surprised you got isk problem, because i always finish tutorials and got like 1mil++ isk in pocket. keep in mind you get on mission 2 a better ship. All in all the stuff provided is more then enough to complete all the tutorials.

Ahh I don't really have ISK problems. I'm just a cheapo and like to farm my stuff. But to get the tutorials out of the way, I'll probably just end up buying the materials I need :D

Next you should try sone Ninja Salvaging. For fun, people generally dont approve of it, it is more of a Pirate Trait.

Basically you equip Combat Scanner I think, look up a system with Level 4/5 missions. Go to the system and scan out with the COmbat scanners, the active ships.
When you scan them book mark them and scan a few more, then get a fast loot ship and jump in to the previously scanned bookmarks at 100 to be safe, you should see either, a ship in combat with NPC's or loads of salvageable vehicles, yours for the taking.
If the former, leave as its cheeky to salvage anothers conquests in front of their eyes. Although you dont have to and its interesting to see what the player does when you start the salvage :)

I did this as a scanning exercise which was a lot of fun.

So little update: ( if anyone even interested in my noob life )

My main char is 10days away from flying mackinaw/hulk. It's still going to be main income horse so no changes there.
My alt will be finishing retriever training tomorrow. So he will be able to give a hand hauling/mining to my main account on down time.
me having 1.4bil already I decided its time to take my finger out and make more focus on my alt. I found out that little mining corp is a part of bigger alliance and that we got a mercenary corp too. I got taken there because the corp leader of mining corp is a leader of Merc corp too. :D
So I got a lot of new info today on corp wars, spies, war targets, scouts etc. Now I am focused to train some basic skills to fly merlin with 150mm rail guns fit and start proper pvp practising :D. Currently corp is im war with 3 other corps and in 12h with one more. Looks like I will have my hands full :D

Man I knew mining was profitable but didn't know it was THAT profitable.

Well done so far mate, 1.4bil at this stage is a great start.

I don't get it? what/where are you mining? If you are still in safe space then fair play to you, you must have a very high boredom threshold :P

How much do plex cost these days?

i am in high sec. 0.6

    Mining mainly veldsper and scordite.

it is really easy with 3 monitors. i just drop my ship to mine, then dock and mine again, while having my main monitor with alt and with a good movie on third monitor. so mining does not became a boring thing. fantastic income. i got already around 100mil worth of ore again, so ill push it again and make it 200mil and then flag it off.

Wait wait, do you mean you mine to your cargo hold, dock, then go back out and mine again? DOn't you mine to a container then get a ship to pick it up? I'm not a miner but I thought that that was the best way to do it.

not really. retriever and mackinow is a bread and butter at solo, semi afk mining.

per cycle i can do 3000 m3 in retriever, which has 27k m3 cargo, wheres covetor with same skills is only 3.4k m3 per cycle and got only 7k m3 cargo. So its not worth it at all to do can thing. so much more clicks and messing with a chance of getting a "dick" can flip you. sometimes you can get 100k veldsper asteroids, which means 2 of those will fill up all your cargo, with 2 clicks.
Like i said its a beauty of 3 monitors. i can do what ever i want while mining. i play borderlands 2, alt EVE, diablo, wow, while still having a screen with mining ship.
As you can see my earning for doing minimal work and zero risk are very nice. Mining is OP as ****, though very boring with 1 account and one screen.

    i fecking hate eve now...

there are so many options, so many ways, so many fittings, ships, wepons, tactics ffs.

its like having a whole red light district open only for you and you have only 1 Cock!

i am training in to missile launchers, but for PVP i dont want to use drake just yet. i want some frigate or cruiser. ( cheap and cheerfull to learn how to pvp ), but i was told missile/rocket frigates are not great.
So i am between training for missiles or droping it and train properly for merlin... maybe even switch in to some other frigate...
i wish expansion would come out sooner so i could see new caldari missile destroyer :o

Just an update that I am still here.

I just took up the cheapo offer and subbed for my first month for a tenner.

As for what I'm doing in game: I still have no clue really :pac:

I have no idea what area (if any) I want to specialise in so my skill points are kinda all over the place. :D
On that note, while I still sit and decide I just went mining. Got myself a Bantam and free Sigil so went jetcan mining. Very easy to do when you have other things to do around the house or are starting a new Skyrim game. :D
I also decided to try out a bit more PVE so finished off the advanced military training missions. Everything was going fine until the last mission. Got myself a Coercer, kitted out with four medium range lasers and pew pewed the two adds down. Then what happened? Disconnection.. Luckily I managed to log back in before being destroyed and took out the main npc.
Combat is still a little weird for me but I'm getting better at it after finally figuring out the shortcut keys and not having to right click everything all the time like an idiot.
Crafting is a mystery to me so I'll need to look more into that. I went looking for ship blueprints but couldn't find anything on the market.. got confused and decided to leave it for the time being :o

I've not joined a corp yet.. No real reason for not joining. Just not got around to it. I've always been more of a solo player in games but I know Eve is very corp based. I'll probably join sooner or later.

Anyway, still enjoying it. No minted with ISK or anything (about 4mill) but I have a sheeeit load of ore in the hanger so could easily add plenty more if I wished. Kinda still trying to get the hang of the market too. When I search something I see the seller and buyer section. What I keep getting confused at is seeing in the buyer section. Someone has posted something. Does that mean they are looking to buy this item or they are selling this item? Cause I double click what is listed and it gives me an option to buy.. And it's usually alot cheaper than items in the seller section that also give me the option to buy. Confused :confused: Maybe I should just try to click it and see what happens :p

Random rant / update over. Just waiting on the server to come back online. :pac:

I was surprised the hulk didn't get a bigger ore hold seeing as it's the most efficient mining vessel, but I just whipped out my mackinaw instead and let her mine away as I do other stuff.
