I agree, the texture is horribly sloppy. Avocado toast is another one that looks delicious but tastes weh-weh.

It only works with a runny egg on top I find!

I tried it both ways and I found the avocado too sweet for the egg. Never happy!

My current go-to breakfast is porridge with cinnamon and thinly sliced pink lady apple. Quite tasty I must say.

Love avocado, love eggs but together they make me gag.

I had overnight porridge. Coconut milk and a touch of honey.

I'm in my parents for a few nights and they have chickens. 14 happy hens = an abundance of the nicest eggs you've ever tasted so poached eggs in the morning I think.

Coconut pancakes, recipe from PaleoHacks, with maple berries and seeds on top.

I've tried to like avocados but so far can only cope with making a nice spicy, citrusy guacamole out of them. Otherwise the texture is not my cup of tea.

Also overnight oats sounds like my personal hell, no thanks!

Just a strong cup of coffee for me this morning. Had a bit of a headache. It did the trick.

This morning I met some friends for coffee and we ended up getting brunch (god I hate that word).

I had the mini breakfast which was bacon, fried egg, sausages, black/white pudding, brown bread and something else I can't remember.

It was absolutely gorgeous. I hadn't had eaten out in ages so it was lovely and the chats with the ladies made it even better :D

Re: overnight oats - tried them once and they were vile. Absolutely disgusting.

Ribeye steak. 3 eggs over easy. Home made hash brown and sautéed onions. Pot of strong coffee and home made juice.

How did you make the overnight oats? TBH I don't get the hype about them either. I made oats in the slow cooker awhile back but the recipe called for a sh!t load of sugar. They were nice but I wouldn't be rushing to make them again.

All the hate for the oats!
As for Hype? Yep I choose my breakfast based on other people's Facebook and Instagram posts :D

Really though, I find the them much more luxurious and creamy when soaked overnight. More flavour too. Plus very handy for a super quick brekkie that the baby enjoys as well. Easy to make variations by changing one or two ingredients, cheaper than other cereal, less processed than other cereal and lends itself very well to the addition of things such as seeds, boosting the nutritional value. Big favourite here.

I love oats with cold milk but the texture of porridge just makes me gag. I do enjoy baked oats though!

I did them in a jar, put the oats and milk in, the fruit on top, sprinkled with chia seeds and sometimes yoghurt.

Just couldn't stomach them, cold porridge yuk!!!

I wouldn't be a fan of porridge anyway, rarely ever have it, but though cold with fruit might be night but nope!!

Never did oats in the slow cooker, have heard of it, but seems like a lot of hassle for breakfast?

God how boring, two weetabix crushed into crumbs, topped with a fistful of yes....raw oats yikes.

Ice cold milk, no sugar no anything else just that. I love it. So quick, so easy and so filling.

Not to everyone's taste, I know.

Scrambled eggs with cherry tomatoes, avocado and a small bap. Large green tea. First time using coconut oil, man it makes everything taste delicious!

Now come on, how did you poach the eggs. It is a constant theme here really.

They look amazing, like ghosts in a shroud or something. Perfect.

You must have a machine to do it!

Loads of practice and epic fails while I was at it :-o :-)

Gently simmering, lightly salted water, very fresh eggs and a light swirl before slowly dropping them into the pot (holding my hand as close to the water as possible without scalding myself..aloe vera gel is close just in case :-p)

Cook for 3/3.5 mins depending on the size of the egg.

Break the eggs into a saucer and drop from there. Save your fingers!

I used to do it that way but the white always seemed to scatter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭david65

I seem to remember my mother putting a small amount of viniger in the water to keep the white together

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭StripedBoxers

I sometimes crack the eggs into a small (shot) glass and put the into the pot from that.

I don't use vinegar though, cannot stand the stuff (unless on chipper chips).

Apparently its meant to help with keeping them together, I can't say that it does help though as I've never used it.

Raymond Blanc on poaching an egg. Watch from 2 minutes and eight seconds. While he uses vinegar, the secret is in having the freshest of eggs so that the white of the egg holds together.
