Tickets for All Ireland Finals

Hey Everyone! I understand that it's a little early to be posting about this. However, given the situation I'm in I suppose it's never too early too look for a little friendly advice! I'm a Galway supporter, up until the last three years my Dad would always get our tickets, since then there have been some family difficulties and we no longer communicate. Since then, I've been getting our tickets online, (Ticketmaster.ie) for games like qualifiers in Thurles, Gaelic Grounds last year, Leinster Final and my ticket for August 12th. It's come to my attention recently that tickets won't go on public sale for an AI final. Here's the problem; I know that some amount of tickets are distributed throughout the clubs, however, there is no hurling club in the parish I live in (Tuam) (By the way, I mean no disrespect to Cork, it's just that there's a 50/50 chance of qualifying for the AI and I said I'd ask for advice sooner rather than later). Basically I'm wondering what is my best way to go about getting tickets? I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

Why did you buy your tickets from Ticketmasters (robbing soandsos:mad:). The GAA uses www.tickets.ie, who don't lump those silly service charges on a la the robbing soandsos.
For the All-Ireland finals the GAA distribute the tickets through the clubs. Usually the outside counties get 2 tickets per club. The participating counties get considerably more. The criteria for distribution to the clubs is decided by the county board. The over-riding condition is that you must be a member of a club. What happened to the hurling club in Tuam?

Buy your ticket for the AI semi off your club and you'll have a better chance of getting one for the Final.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 817 ✭✭✭audman

Unfortunately Tuam don't have a hurling club, I already have my tickets for the semi, bought them in Ticketmaster.ie

Don't let Richie Williams hear you say that! If the final is anything like last year's, there'll be 'hapes' of tickets for sale on the day. I was walking down Jones' road and they couldn't be given away for love nor money.

Yes, but AFAIK they are an accredited club and thus entitled to an allocation.

If so, a very small allocation, I'd imagine, I'll sos it out all the same! :)

Dont panic there will be tickets us or KK wont bring a huge crowd. If it's KK ye are very safe. You may have a panic in the days leading up to it but come the Sunday you will have a ticket.

Thanks for the reply! As in I should be able to get one up and around Croke Park on the day or how should I go about it? This is all provided we get there :)

Just a question for people who've bought tickets last minute: How do you tell the fakes from genuine tickets when it comes to touts?

The hardest time to get tickets for any sporting event is always a couple of weeks before the main event, usually they are like gold dust and few and far between. Clubs will usually get their tickets mid-week before the final and distribute them then, then there'll be returns to the central council, people will have duplicates, if possible get up the night before the match and head to the usual haunts around the capital, then into the pubs around Croke Park on the day itself, before the minor match.

In regards to spotting counterfeits, check the holigram and signature on the ticket, there'll usually be a picture released to the media of the tickets when they are printed so you can compare, also, a lot of tickets now will have where & who the tickets came from (e.g. Clare County Board Cash Sales).

In regards as to who to ask for tickets, if you don't have any connections within the local club, do you know anyone in another? do you know any refs? Schools also get a fair number of tickets so check with any teachers you might know

If your still looking for tickets on the morning of the AI final, I've seen plenty been sold and taken up outside Barry's hotel over last few years, if you really want have a sign with tickets wanted made and just stand there and wait!!! If any fella with a Dublin accent tries selling ya tickets tell him ta F off .... He'll be a tout more than likely

Thank you for your time, help and advice. It's much appreciated! I know a fair few people in strong hurling clubs around the county to be honest, but I can't see it being as simple as "Can ya get me a ticket"? I'd say those I know will be lucky to get one themselves, maybe, maybe not? Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice, always nice to have a plan B! Or a plan somewhere between A & Z going by my guess on how many times I'll have to try for these tickets :) I appreciate all the advice and suggestions guys!!

I live near Croke Park and have been to several hurling finals, and normally get a ticket the afternoon of the match, sniffing around Drumcondra road. I've never had a major problem. The only one that was difficult was the final that Tipp won, took me about half an hour to get a ticket.

It might be difficult if Cork are in the final cause of its population, but you dont have to worry abou that.

Thank you! Is that the road where the Best Western Skylon Hotel is located? Stayed there the night before the Leinster Final. Ironically enough I managed to get a ticket for the '10 final. A friend of the family rang two days before saying he had one for me :D Needless to say I didn't feel like a neutral fan up there, the only day I found myself shouting for Tipp since before the '01 final :-) I refuse to rule out Corks chances going on Galways reputation when the they're favourites, I'll stay quiet :-) Half an hour to get a ticket? That seems short for such a ticket?! :-)

Not always. If you can get up the night before and get to the hurling sevens you might get lucky. There will be a huge demand from Galway people, so waiting until you are outside Croker isn't likely to work, try outside the Greham early Sun morning. It's touts that tend to be by Croke Park.

Today, I saw a tout sell 4 cusack tickets for 20eur each (80eur). How can he be making a profit on this?

And why would people buy from touts on the street for an event that isnt sold out and you can buy the tickets offically?

Sorry, if I am missing something really obvious here??? I dont understand the world of touting too well...

There will be plenty of tickets around for the final. I am not sure on price but some people won't pay that much for them any more.

Not sure about Cusack but clubs could buy 50 x Tickets for a tenner each in Galway. I think they were for Davin Stand. Maybe they were available in Cusack.

Seriously; Ticket allocation use to go by Club Grade; e.g. Senior Clubs get more than Intermediate Clubs and so on. AFAIK anymore it goes on membership including non-players. Tuam Hurling Club is bigger than a lot of Hurling Clubs in Galway.

Disclaimer: They might be the worst hurling club.

Are you actually serious or just looking for something to do with your day? If you take the time to read back through this thread you'll see the problem is the fact that AI final tickets aren't distributed publicly and harder to get, I've been to all the other matches and take them as they come! No problem in doing that considering Galway are in an AI final for the first time in 7 years, how would you justify buying a season ticket? I take matches as they come, go to them all and have been for years! I'd imagine you're one of the 'loyal' Dublin supporters eh? ;)

He means a Galway season ticket. If you were going to all the matches it would work out cheaper over the year plus you'd be sure of a ticket for the final. Too late now of course but worth getting it next year.
As other posters said always tickets around at face value in the pubs on the day.

Yeah, there was another guy who said he had a few club tickets and just wanted to get rid of them.

I'm not against clubs making money. But I would be somewhat dubious & sceptical about them making money in this way....Everything should be done to keep tickets out of the hands of touts.

Fair enough, just didn't appreciate the 'bandwagon' comment. It's not what you want to hear when you've been booking days off work to go to the games ( I work Sundays (retail) ) Thanks again :)

You can buy them from the county board at Pearce stadium.

Im in thr same boat as you, small ball fan from big ball town of Tuam.

Keep an eye on the Galway Hurlers Fan Club website, they will announce when they go on sale. I think the fan club members get preference, but Im not sure. Membership is 20 yoyos for the year. Bit late to join now .

I always got my tickets from the GAA website too, so im a bit anxious to get something sorted too.

Ill PM you if i get any leads or more info. Keep me posted on how ya get on.

tipp county board were selling AI tickets on the friday and saturday before last years final, i imagine KK were doing the same. on the day there were people who couldnt get rid of tickets so since you will be meeting one of them you should be ok, only problem will be that half of Galway will be there snapping them up.

so, if you can, keep your internet open on tipp fm and whatever the kilkenny radio site is on the run in and their gaa sites.

Its called supporting your county. The bangwaggon comment was made in jest and im sorry for that. If you are attending all Galway games like the previous poster says it makes more sense to buy a season ticket as it works out cheaper and for attending these matches your reward is an AI final ticket.

I've been to all the AI hurling finals that KK have been since '98 and almost every year there are tickets to be got up in Dublin on the day. That being said, I wouldn't feel comfortable heading up without a ticket. I actually had an extra ticket last year for the upper Cusack that I wasn't able to sell.

As mentioned above I work Sundays, I book my days off around matches but I'm not always guaranteed to get it off. Therefore buying tickets game by game suits me better. Bottom line is I've been to the other matches this season and all I'm doing is increasing my chances of getting a ticket for the final by asking for advice, no shame in that. There'll be 'bandwagon' supporters up there for the first time this year on the 9th, I'd be more ashamed to be one of those than ask for genuine advice on this.

Guys, any advice ye have is much appreciated in order to get tickets by the AI on 9th of Sept.
Many of us Galway supporters are eager to get some tickets to attend the final but unfortunately do not meet the criteria in order to receive them from the GAA.
I am trying all means possible in order to get access to two final tickets since leaving Croke Park on sunday, like previous poster stated I dont think I would feel comfortable or confident enough to go to Dublin on the 9th to get a ticket.
So please post any advice you may have.
    Thanks.

I haven't missed a Galway Hurling game in over 4 years.

But one of the reasons I wouldn't get a season ticket is the assigned seating in Croker. If myself and a few friends are going to a game, (or if my local pub runs a bus) its nice to be able to sit together.

Question - Does a (Galway Hurling) season ticket guarantee a seat in the stand in places like, Port Laoise, Kilkenny, Mullingar, Tullamore and other grounds we have played in since joining Leinster ?

AFAIK season tickets are always a (covered) stand ticket no matter where the match is. My first year with a season ticket and we have been in the covered stand for every match and ok seats, the seats we have for croker on Sunday look decent.

Should the Minors reach the final, I'd imagine it should improve the chances of getting a ticket - the clubs would receive an increased allocation with both teams taking part? TBH, last year's final was the third instalment of KK/Tipp and there was no problem with spare tickets; every second person along Jones road seemed to have surplus, mates of mine were even left with them. Hurling finals aren't usually as tight as football finals.

you dont have any problems getting a ticket on the day. im a dub and i go to the hurling final every other year. i usually pick a ticket up around O'connell st or dorset st. there's always tickets available for face value. you just have to ask around.

Anyone have any idea when tickets go on sale/allocated to clubs?

Just to throw my two cents in here. In 2008, when we got to our first All-Ireland final since 1963, you can imagine the panic that was present around Waterford with regard to tickets. In the end, through various contacts, the whole family managed to get tickets and we even ended up with one extra. My dad sold it to someone over by Jones's road for about €35.

My point is that, even though this seemed like it would be impossible to get tickets for, we ended up in a situation with extras. If you want a ticket, you'll get one.

Think of anyone you know from counties that aren't traditionally big hurling counties. The clubs there get an allocation too. We got some down from Derry.

    You'll be grand.
