Hey, quick question for any first years who've been in for course meetings or whatnot so far this week - has anyone given ye any indication of when the timetable might be available?

I know I'm the one who's been telling people to be patient (:pac:) but it's getting ridiculous at this stage!! Just wondering if any lecturers have said anything about it yet?

They updated the old system to say "Timetables for 2012-13 will be made available on the new portal instead" but that's about it.

I was in course meeting yesterday and we were given a photocopy of our timetable and told when we collect our student cards we will be given log in details and will be able to access our timetable online then. I also just checked mytcd and it says any courses where documentation is required to allow entry (Garda vetting, vaccinations etc) will be invited to register from Tom onwards. They apologised for the delay. Have you phone your dept secretary and asked? Best of luck! This link Is really helpful http://www.tcd.ie/international/assets/pdf/fresher's-week-programme-1213.pdf

I'm doing computer science. Either I'm stupid, or this is our timetable: https://www.scss.tcd.ie/assets/resources/2012_13%20Timetables/Int%20Comp%20Sci/Year%201_ICS_1213.pdf

We haven't had out course meeting yet, I just googled it

Thanks for the reply. The bit I put in bold ^ is not the case anymore 'cause I'm a fourth year and already have my log in details (he/she must have been talking about the old system). It's all gonna be done through my.tcd.ie this year, hence all the problems! Or maybe they meant that the timetables will be released the same day you get your student card? I might email the dept but I don't have high hopes (my dept never put anything online! :(). Thanks though! If you hear a specific date from anyone, please let us know :)

It's just I'm trying to enrol for French classes in the Alliance Francaise and most of the ones I want to do are gonna be full because I don't know what hours I can do yet. I've also had a couple of job interviews and telling a prospective employer that you don't know when you're available isn't the best way of getting a job :(

    According to the portal:
    Question:
When will I be able to see my timetable?
    Answer:
We aim to have timetables available for students to view in their portal approximately two weeks before term starts.

    Haha :pac: FFS.

I hope that's not it since I wont be getting my student card until a week and a half after I start lecturers.

I was talking to the people at the science course office yesterday, they don't know what the deal is with the timetables and registration either and are only being given training on how to use the new system today.
Seems like the problem is they're doing everything on the new site all at once, are running into loads of problems and no one really knows quite how to use it yet.

Just read there that last years 3rd year Engineering didn't get there timetable until 9:15 on the first day. :P Talk about being a bit late

What's in the "My Student Record" tab on my.tcd? Nothing is coming up for me.

Tutor info and tutor availability during Fresher's Week tabs in mine... bit strange considering I'm in 2nd year

Sorry, I meant that maybe we'd all get them the day that the poster above me got their student card (presumeably this week, as they're a first year), not that everyone would get timetable and card together.

One of my classmates said that the dept secretary told them that we won't get them til "at least Friday, or Monday at the latest". Argh. They've only had four months to sort them, like...

To anyone who has registered online, when did your timetable appear on mytcd?

    thanks

Portal timetables are sometimes (read: always) incorrect. Your school should be able to provide you with a much more correct one soon, if they haven't put them up online already.

Nope, by the sounds of it the timetables won't be up any time soon, we were told yesterday to contact the department directly and ask for a timetable.

    thanks for the replies,

Anyone know where the timetable for collecting your new card is? Glanced at it during registration but can't find the link now.

Loaded the credit card (Visa) with the money required. Payment failed. They invited me to attempt it again. Not a hope. When I meet someone face to face that has a name and identity they can have my cash.
I'm only sorry I'm going into 4th year not 1st as by now I'd be well rid of TCD.

This system is a monumental act of stupidity that will cost TCD untold damage to finance and reputation. Deservedly so.

I think that's slightly over the top. Every system has teething issues. They should have tested it far more and perhaps just have people using it for checking their bill and registering this year and then next year switch over fully.

Its not over the top, we're talking four figure sums of money here. That is grown up stuff. You are right about checking the system and introducing it on a trial basis in tandem with the old bank giro system. That would be common sense. Too much to expect it appears.

I have to say though. After you have paid and registered, the system looks great. For far too long information has be placed all over the web and it turns into an egg hunt to find everything you need. This new system is offering a lot more than I expected.

Tried a second time. Now I'll have to check the bloody statement on Monday to ensure they haven't robbed me. At least Visa insure dodgy transactions like this.
A "great looking system" can be achieved by a 12 year old for free - for €3088.50 I'd expect a little more than this rubbish.

No it won't. The best students will still apply to study here and research isn't going to come to a halt to just because of a few teething issues with an online payment system for students.

Is this a bit of a crappy disorganised university? I start on Monday and I have no timetable, looks like I'll be turning up with just my dick in my hand, or maybe I should just stay at home and go on the social? If this is how bad this university is then maybe it isn't worth turning up and getting a degree from them anyway...
