Did anyone move last year from Arts to BCL(Law and Arts) or BBL (Law and Business)?
If so I have a question. Did you get new student cards or did you keep your old ones?

    You sure do! :)

Just go into the records office and ask for a new card! That's what I did. Made my day doing it!

Now I have to do it again because it's expired!

But I need to have my grant approved before I go there right?

I'm not sure tbh. They're only replacing the card that you have but you might have to check. I'm going in tomorrow so I'll let you know

Okay thanks a lot because in email re: Registration it said
Your ID card will not be re-activated until you are fully registered and have paid your fees.

Yea I think you might be able to get the card (all you have to do is hand in your old one and they'll give you a new one) but you just won't be able to use it and stuff. But like I said, I'll check for you tomorrow.

I went into the Records Office today and she said that you could get new cards once you have registered. So that the system knows your new course. She didn't mention anything about fees

My card looks like it had been washed in a washing machine like 5 times :/

You probably won't get a new picture on the new cards sadly. They just used the same picture on mine for my undergrad and postgrad.

They took a new picture of me for my postgrad card. I look 10 years older in it because the picture caught me in the middle of a grimace.

You can request a new picture, which I intend on doing as soon as I get my new one...
The guy that took mine in first year took a reaaaaally obvious boob shot, like he zoomed out a good bit to include it. Three years of showing people that card.. definitely time for a new one!

Aw really? We were told we weren't allowed new pictures seeing as there was already one on the system. Wouldn't have minded a new one.

Haha if someone took an obvious boob shot for my picture I would put my feminist boots on and make sure another less objectifying one was taken :p

Like for me the lack of a gate on bond bridge into the old college !

I'm no longer a student there, but for me this one is the best gripe so far. Timetables and ID cards will be forgotten about by the end of the week, but for four years I yearned for a gate into the college at the town side of Bond Bridge.

Hangover + 9am lecture + No Gate = Very depressed.

Oh, and to throw in a new one not unrelated to the Bond Bridge Gate one, watch out for Parsons Street during the winter. Its a narrow road with a crap surface and loads of puddles - prepare to arrive at college, or at home, soaked to the bone by passing cars.

I remember hearing that the reason there's no entrance to south campus via Bond Bridge direction is because St Pat's won't allow it? Allegedly of course. Would have loved one back when I lived over that side of the town.

Honestly I didn't even realise until half way through 1st year when I saw someone else's card, and there photo was just their face. I was raging!

I dislike being asked for multiple thousands of quids that I neither have nor owe.

Not totally Nooth related but seriously, why does anyone pay €15 for those student travel cards when a normal student card does the same thing for free and you don't even get a discount on the leap card rates?!

Only the student travel card is accepted on Dublin bus

For monthly and weekly tickets etc?

Because for normal fares it's now a leap card and has the exact same fares as the €5 leap card

Yeah you need it for the student tickets or you'll get done if an inspector comes on. (In 18 years of taking the bus I never saw an inspector, in the last year it's happened 4 times. hmmm....)

Also, some shops will only take the travel card as proof for a discount.

Do we need a student travelcard to get student tickets on the train?

You can use your nuim card as of now but it only works for weekly/monthly/annual tickets

Said it before but the clashing of modules.............'Here at Maynooth we offer a wide range of modules which allow you to focus on areas which interest you...but what we won't tell you is we schedule them at times which will clash with other modules meaning you will most likely have to take ones which don't interest you and would fail to have any students in them if we didn't do this.'
