    MOD NOTE

There was a thread like this before, which didn't turn out too well :p So this time we're going to put in a few rules to make sure nothing bad occurs.

    - If giving out about a lecturer/module, DO NOT MENTION THEM BY NAME. This is a public forum, and anyone could be reading.

    - If you have a problem with someone's post, report it. Don't attack them on thread.

    - Off-topic chat goes in I can haz general discussion. That thread & it's predecessor have a lot of history in this forum, and it would be a huge shame if they died off. Please use this thread for bitching only.

    Happy ranting!!

Really was sure this had been done before , but can't seem to find it

Anyways every other college seems to have one so why not the 'nooth ! ;)

What are your daily rants/bitchings about life in Maynooth ?!

Like for me the lack of a gate on bond bridge into the old college !

Or that UPC isn't avaliable in all the houses grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !! (this one I'm really fuming about atm ! :P )

Or the shortage of places to go out esp on really busy nights , such as the last day of term!!

^ Yeah this is especially annoying. I'm going into first year Business & Law but it'd be nice to know what hours and days i'm looking at so I can organise my job and travel etc around the hours! Surely it'll be up by the 26th? End of this week like?

It better!!!! Or they will hear me.... ROAR!!!!

Actually if someone was to bother write a strongly worded letter re: timetables what office would it be addressed to ? It wouldn't be the presidents office would it , since he's wholly responsible for the overall running of the University ?

I think the registrar is the person in charge of timetables?

Rant: internet is being an ass.

Really? I always wondered what that office did :P

Well whoever it is seriously needs to get their ass into gear!! Or else they're going to have a 1000+ people at their door with bayonets and flaming torches(and perhaps the odd fertilizer bomb for the farming folk among us ! ;) ) demanding to know what the f#*k they have been doing these past 12 months !!!!

I WANT MY TIMETABLE AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!

    Please and thank you! :P

and as of today I officially hate ISP'S been trying to get internet set up for when I move in in Sept so I'm not stuck with that bloody dongle again !! But they're all either:

    1. Not available in my area (Beaufield)
    2.Waaayyy to expensive
    3. Only available for at least a 24/12 mnth contract!!!!

Grrrrrrrr defiantly not a happy bunny today!!

I went onto the Graduates centers page under timetables and they don't even have half of their timetables up yet either.. Kinda disgraceful..

    It really is!!

Job description of the register....The Office of the University Registrar supports the academic and research missions of the university and serves as a central administrative office for students, faculty and alumni. We provide data to internal and external constituencies, enabling these offices to make informed enrollment management and policy decisions. This office ensures adherence to academic policy, preserving academic integrity and safeguarding academic records.

So basically they keep a big list and make timetables SERIOUSLY !! They've been given one job to do and they can't even get that right....

That's it. Im'ma email this registrar person and find out when they are going to publish those timetables.

God, they're going to love me up in NUI Maynooth, haven't even done 1 day up there yet and i'm already demanding stuff.. :pac:

I love it when I'm in Maynooth. But right now, as with this time last year, I just want to f-cking stay home and do absolutely nothing for a year. I'm sick of studying and I haven't even started yet and moving is so stressful

Is there nt some software where they can just put the info in and they get a timetable for it?

It cant be that difficult and it's not like they have been overflowing with work for the past 12 months. It was up this week last year

Make sure it's strongly worded ;) and let them know they also have a few petrol bombs with their names inscribed on them coming their way if they don't hurry up! :P

and tbh demanding things/being diplomatic is really the only way you'll get any where properly in life imo !

That's exactly my thought , I mean if it is the registrars job then that pretty much is their only job so there really is no excuse!

    Damm public sector workers

Like they put into some software the name of each module, the number of students, the type (eg computer room) and how many times per week it needs to be on and then the software allocates each module to a lecture hall making sure none of them clash.

The walkway between the two campuses better be open, otherwise the south campus will be completely out of the question.

Think students would have had to have already registered for them to do something like that though

    Not specifically college based but...

Drove an hour to The Nooth this evening to meet a letting agent to give him a deposit to secure new house and finish moving my stuff out of house I'm in now. no sign of guy where I'm meeting him, his phone not ringing, wait half hour, nothing, go to house to move my stuff and discover as i went to put key in the door that I had a loan of a car, mines ****ed, that key to house is on MY car keys, which i left an hour away, with other occupants moved out. Drove back having done nothing outside of shouting at the sky alot.

    Least.productive.evening.ever.

I would imaine they would have to wait until the first round of the CAO applications are over, and they get the results of all repeat exams so they will know the sizes of all lecturers and can assign an appropiate class room/lecturer hall/lab. in IT Sligo, we didnt get ours until a few days before lecturers started!

exactly, but the software is only as good as the data thats inputed, i.e. student numbers :)

The timetable was out this time last year , so they clearly dont use the student number thing. I have proof also, because in first year for the first semester of chemistry (before some ppl dropped for this very reason , among others) about 40 people had to stand per lecture if not more 'cos there wasn't enough seats for everyone in the lecture hall that was enrolled in the class!!!!

Nope unfortunately nor are tutorials :( but at least it still gives you some indication

Does anyone actually remember from last year when second year chem and bio labs were on ?

If your first year bio labs were on last year on Thursdays and Fridays depending on your course you'll be told which one to go to (theres no option)

and chemistry were Thursdays & Fridays also with 4 time slots to pick from

Bit of a pain they don't include them !!!!

I don't do physics or CS so I've no idea about those !

Sorry I never specified, I'm only going in to first year. I notice that my timetable has no lectures on Thursday and Friday so should I assume that labs/tutorials will be on those days? Thanks for the help btw!

Yep that's exactly when they'll be , if your doing chem & bio anyway

Chemistry times were afair 10-12 or 2-4 thurs or friday (you pick one)

Biology was 10-12/1 and 2-4/5 Thurs or Friday (depending on your course you'll be told which to go to)

Physics I think one of my friends had hers on a weds ? but I really don't know tbh same with CS but both those are defo only on mon-weds

Chemistry tutorials are mon-weds at pretty much every hour ( you pick one)

math tutorials runs all week I think theres loads of times (theyre an hour long) and you pick one and go to that.

Ugh why couldn't maynooth really be hogwarts and our stuff would be waiting for us upon arrival all this moving , putting crap into boxes is so stressful!!!! Did find some absolute charms from my childhood though that'd I'd long forgotten about !!!! :P

I'm not quire sure there even is one. There isn't one for business or law in first semester for sure but I think my friend had 1 tutorial in second semester but the time was given to her, there was no choice.

Just found out that I have only have one lecture (English) all day on Friday afternoon that's supposedly compulsory meaning I won't get back to Donegal that day for work or training. Running the risk of losing my job here and having to put extra training hours in on an already exhausting Saturday. This is not on at all.

same sort of thing happened to me in first year. only had law at midday on a friday...annoying to say the least, ended up staying up most weekends

The only English lectures that are compulsory with regards attendance are seminar groups, of which you are given a choice of times to choose from. Work hard and train longer.

Well I don't do English but I do French and apparently all of the lectures are compulsory (They even took attendance). Although I was in for maybe 2/12 lectures I still got over 60% in those modules so as long as in the course outline there is nothing about getting marks for attendance (like as for almost all tutorials) and you will try to catch up (even right before the exams) you should be fine if you skip few.
