Still fancy Celtic to get through, gonna be a tense night. Only seen the extended highlights, looked somewhat like a freak result

Betfair odds have Karagandy narrow enough favourites to qualify and I think that is about right.

Following prolonged negotiations Celtic have had a final offer rejected by a local farmer for one sacrificial sheep for next week's game, Peter Lawwell has decided not to meet the asking price and instead haggle with a neighbouring farmer whose lame goat is thought to be available at a knock down price.

Celtic's astute signings got alot of praise last season but if the gamble this season doesn't pay off then serious questions need to be asked. We knew Hooper and Wanyama would be off and the club had plenty of time to find replacements, Wilson might have left them short noticed but certainly not the other two.

If Celtic sign a player tomorrow can he play in the home leg?

Hoopers situation was known after his 1st season tbh, Wanyama's for almost a year. There is an inherent instability attached to buying cheap, selling big. New signings need time to bed in e.g. Kelvin Wilson when he first joined (poor) to his importance before his sale (key) is one issue, not signing players before authorizing sales is the other. Lawwell, Park & Lennon have dropped the ball this summer.

    Nope

To be fair Celtic were the dominant side. If Lennon had went for the risky choice of putting an actual striker on the bloody field we would probably have won it.

Stokes & Balde missed the Aberdeen match with injuries. Its doubtful they were fit to start. Boerrigter was not available because of injury and Watt didnt make the squad.

If there was no-one else available to play as a striker Watt should have been in the squad and should have started the game up front. Samaras is only useful in a wide role. Lennon knows this - or must know it - but still persists with playing him as a striker and especially away from home in CL games. Samaras is not a striker, stop playing him as a striker.

If he picks the best team available to him next week and we can get a goal in the 1st half we can win the tie, but we will need to be lucky as well and not concede a poxy goal to them.

    Nope

What galls me the most about this, aside from the time they had knowing about Hooper, Wanyama and (to some degree) Wilson, is the money element. Financially, they made the guts of £20m on the sale of those three, and they had made something similar due to last 16 CL. I know it's easier said than done getting decent players to come to Scotland, but I do agree they were ill-prepared for this.

I was very surprised when I heard about Wilson, never thought it would happen but I didn't realise the circumstances. Whatever about attacking players, an unsettled defence is the worst thing that can happen to Celtic going into European games. That's exactly what happened last night.

If we keep a clean sheet next week I still have confidence of overturning the result. Can't see us getting 4 in 90 minutes though so the defence has to improve immensely.

If we do make it through though I can see Lennon getting to add one striker a level above bargain basement standard and that's it. I wouldn't expect anyone else brought in to strengthen the back line, something which would have been needed even if Wilson had stayed.

Mulgrew must play at CB,I would possibly start playing Izzy on the left of midfield,His defensive duties are not his strong point (Maybe we should of cashed in on him 2 seasons ago).

Obvious we need a CF and quick

Tony Watt has gone backwards alot since scoring against Barcelona and going by reports today, Celtic are looking to sell him.
    Douglas McNeil ‏@DouglasMcNeil 8m

Tony Watt another name linked. St Mirren would love him on loan but very unlikely. Hearing Celtic would rather sell than loan.

Who do you think should have started up front last night if Balde and Stokes were both not fit to start. Boerighter injured as well.

I would have started Balde and told him to play for 45 mins. Samaras out left and Mulgrew at LB because he can actually defend first and foremost. We would have been better in front of goal with that setup imo and likely to be 0-0 or a goal to the good come HT. If Balde couldnt continue I would have changed to Samaras up top, Common out left and bring on Stokes or Watt to get close to him for the lay offs or even go Kayal on as DM and allow Ledley and Brown to make more forward runs to support the striker. Starting Samaras up top could have been avoided despite the injury problems imo.

I think we switched off abit after we saw their GK flapping at the 2 early corners and though this was going to be easy aswell.

If any of our strikers were near fit they should have started last night. Our strikers are Balde, Stokes and Watt. Boerrigter is supposed to be able to play up front as well, but he was definitely injured last night. The defending was cat as well, and Lennon also made a huge error by not picking Mulgrew to play at centre half.

He might get away with last night's debacle, but only because this Karagandy outfit are no great shakes and if we get an early enough goal that will put us right back in the tie.

And the boys on here were saying Samaras couldn't play up front. If he can do it against the likes of Bayern he can do it against anyone.

Samaras was brilliant up front on his own against Rangers a few years back, the Ibrox game he scored twice 2-0

The only game where he was effective in that role whereas he's had dozen of games on the left where he's been MOTM.

The Green Brigade are back in 111 :D GB and club issuing statements in the morning is what im hearing. Hopefully it's all sorted now, they'll be badly wanted on Wednesday night

An early goal and the GB singing loud and proud should unsettle the shaktar players just a bit :D

Good to see the GB back in 111, we'll need them in full voice next week.

Not sure if it's a windup but apparently Ki has posted a pic of a new Celtic kit on Facebook with the comment 'never say never'. Could he be coming back on loan?

We need more creativity and I'm sure he's improved abit from when he was here last so it wouldnt be the worst signing but it would highlight the mistakes made this summer in that Lawwell, Park & Lennon didnt make great plans for the aftermath of those likely to leave this summer.

I like Ki, think he's a very good player but never thought he suited SPL football. He had was too easily bullied in games although he'd probably get more games now than before he left.

Agree, it would smack of missing our targets and settling for a short term solution especially if it's a loan deal

There is a pic doing the rounds(new kit, number 24) but I'm on the phone and can't post a link, not a lot of talk about it so might be nothing.
