Wilshere close to agreeing a new contract worth 80grand a week

So that's Gibbs Jenks ox and wilshere signed, along with kos and verm at the start of the season

Seems if both parties wanna get a deal done it gets done fairly quickly

yep. 80k a week is a hell of a lot of money, **** Walcott to be honest.

He had a great reputation before he came to Arsenal. Captain of his national team, hot commodity in Ligue 1. Then Wenger shoved him in the reserves and never gave him a chance. Delighted to hear he's doing well.

Im half wondering is Chamakh or Park really as bad as they were playing for Arsenal? Is their confidence so low or are they being utilised correctly? Are they getting the best supply of ball even? I dont rate the likes of Squillachi, Gervinho or Santos tbh but i cant help feeling we are missing something with Chamakh. He started well but seemed to just fall away. Chamberlain looked a shadow of his capabilities the other night and gave more time on his arse then on his feet. He just seemed to lack belief and confidence. It might have been better to play the few youths the other night who are fearless with nothing to lose and have a point to prove. Surely Meade, Gnarby or Eisfield was worth a go?

When you see the rubbish on as much like Santos (reported 70k) you'd have to wonder. I reckon the board are just being stingy and havent made any concrete offer to Walcott.

Walcott is getting on with it and his attitude has been superb this season. He deserves to be rewarded but it looks like he is on his way.

Walcott's been shifting the goalposts for more than a year now. The screw up here isn't not pinning him down to a new deal; it's not being able to see the blatantly obvious and selling him when he still had value.

Fully agree here he is playing a good media game. Like 80 grand a week is good enough for wilshere who is prob gonna be the club captain within 2years, but not good enough for Walcott

Once he starting moving the goalposts we def should have flogged him, with a decent CM signed and cazorla pushed wide I reckon Walcott will be pushed right down the pecking order

Could have gotten serious money for him too

Walcott thinks that he is better than he is in reality, that is the problem. He is injury prone as well and I think that the club is being realistic with regard his value and wages, but Theo not accepting it. Sell him I say, and get someone else, no sweat.

It was never about playing in the centre for Walcott, he wants out, he's using the position thing as a smokescreen, next summer (or hopefully next January as we'll get a bit of money for him) we'll see him sign for his new club where he will most likely get the overblown wages he is seeking and he will all of a sudden have no problem playing on the right for his new club.

Chamakh had a decent rep before he came here too, but at least he got a run in the team and was dropped when his form dipped. Park never even got that. All I remember of Park his him scoring a cracker in the Capital One and coming on as a sub once in the league when there was barely 5 minutes left.

If I recall Chamakh was bang in form when he was dropped. He had started strong then RVP got fit, stayed fit and Chamakh went right off the radar

Lets not kid ourselves here. Chamakh is crap. Not good enough for Arsenal.

Demba Ba on Canal Plus : "Arsenal are one of these teams who make you dream"

A come and get me plea from BA

Not with our injury record. As soon as he'd pass the threshold at Colney his knee would fall off.

Ba really isn't at the level we should be aiming.

I'd be pretty happy if we signed Ba and it'd be a steal at 7.5m for a proven premier league goalscorer. It'd be a risk though with his knee.

Walcott's be mouthing off too much for too long. Bit like RvP, Short of spending a couple of hundred million in the summer he was long gone.

The funny thing is though if we spend even 50 million it'll be for players that will keep him off the team.

Some very interesting articles regarding Arsenal and Wenger in the papers lately, but that's about it. I am not interested on whether Wenger stays or leaves. All I want is that he sends teams out onto the field who are motivated and willing to die for the jersey.
If I saw that plus the zip and and speed on the break I couldn't care less if we were managed by Biffo the Bear.
We look as cumbersome and slow as a juggernaut of late and few players showing much interest.

It's about the manager's ability to motivate and prepare the team and about his willingness to try something different and drop certain players if it doesn't work. We can't continue as we are going now.

I'm not sure if Biffo the Bear is the right choice for next manager, but I agree with the rest of your post.

A win tomorrow and we are up to fifth. Crisis....pift :)

It's sad that I can;t even feel confident about us getting a result against Reading.

He'd immediately improve our front line.

Although I'd agree that I'd be wary of signing him given our track record of injuries and his marshmallow knees.

I'm expecting a backlash against reading. The players pride will be badly hurt after the league cup. No matter what Wenger says or does, they players themselves have to stand up and show what they can do. Il be very disappointed if they don't

Expecting Jack to completely run the game, regardless of what anyone else does.

I agree that we need better than Ba if we're to climb back to where we want to be. Ba's a good player and would improve the squad but I don't think he'd make that much of a difference, unless of course Giroud got injured. The thought of going through an extended stretch with Gervinho as our only centre-forward... oh boy.

We need serious talent added to the squad. I don't see any of the cut-price options being talked about (Ba, Huntelaar, Llorente) doing much for us unless they're accompanied by some major additions elsewhere. But really, is CF a position we want to be skimping on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

I wouldn't like to see us sign Huntelaar at all tbh.

I know he's had a great spell with Schalke, but he flopped at both Madrid and Milan and I have serious doubts he'd be able to cut it in England.

Have no interest in seeing us sign Llorente either. If we won't play to Girouds strengths by crossing the ball then bringing in another target man is pointless.

I'd prefer we spend big money on a winger then a striker

    What about Bent?
Would a goal poacher help the squad at all? Is he a luxury player you guys can afford in the team?

Would we play to his strenghts - if not he would be a complete waste - quite gettable though I would have thought

He wasn't wearing the captains armband against Bradford but he was the only player acting like they were.
