Is that Noble leading out a group? Nobody working with him! Come on! Do your part! Bridge that gap!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭GoHardOrGoHome

20 second gap between 5 leaders and chase pack I think.

Up to 6th place now 26.24 bike lap 1.

Noble is in the main group chasing the lead 5, they don't seem to be too pushed in working together though and I can only see the Brownlee group pulling away more and not being bothered by anyone else until the finish line.

    Those Brownlee helmets are appalling!

They're not pulling away yet. 18 second gap now.

Instead of lead group, Brownlee group. Funny.

    Those Brownlee helmets are appalling!

Nothing compared to some of the very cool ones used in the track events, some of them are fairly sexy in a sci fi type of way.

The Brownlees ones remind me of this

The lead group consists of 40% of Brownlees :) That's just the way things are phrased in the world of cycling, nothing unusual about that.

Jonny Brownlee getting annoyed with the progress. Wants the others to do more work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,834 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Looks like they're going to be caught, how wrong was I.

    5 seconds. Good work!

Stuart Hayes taking to the domestique role now. (for the Brownlees)

What do people think about the use of domestiques in tri these days ? I can understand why it's done but don't think it's in the 'spirit' of the event really, you can see Hayes going to run himself into the ground now and it happened in the ladies too.

Possible 15sec penalty for one of the brothers mounting his bike too early.

Possible 15 second penalty for Jonny for mounting before the line.

I hate the idea but if they banned it it would happen anyway just a little less obviously.

I remember being shocked by an interview Gavin Noble did where he was saying that because another Irish athlete was doing well (Bryan Keane I think) that he would do his part by slowing down the chase group by braking awkwardly going into tight corners etc. I didn't like it but that's the sport.

Not great (relatively) they seem to be saying.

    Noble in 3rd!

Jonny going to get a 15 second penalty. Is that a stand by the bike at T2?

edit: likely to take it on lap 2 in the penalty box on the route.

    Jonny Brownlee 15second penalty confirmed.

Yip, BBC just discussed it, he has a choice of when to take it and that's the most likely place they seem to think.

Wonder will he recover after the penalty, should be interesting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭couerdelion

A 15 second stop start on the run though isn't as devasting as one if he had to take it on the bike. Still think he'll get second.

Gemmell (NZ) and Vasiliev (Russia) tried a mini break. Swallowed up.

    5 minutes later. Tried again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭GoHardOrGoHome

Pack is strung out now. Single file. Vasiliev (I think) working hard with Gemell. Noble eating loads! Gel and bar (according to commentator)?

    Alastair making a break!

    Edit: caught!
