I still can't believe the value the Pats got for trading that 1st round pick. Getting a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th round pick in return was just phenomenal.
Its not a monster deal by any means imo but it does suit the Patriots to have the extra picks. Going by the trade value chart(it does change a bit every year) it looks like this,

    Pick 29 = 640 points
    Pick 52 = 380 + Pick 83 = 175 + Pick 102 = 92 + Pick 229 = 1.2 Total = 648.2 points

Ye I noticed that in another forum and he was saying in fact the Vikings got the better deal because draft picks in 1st round don't hold as much value as they used to.

Realistically it suited both teams, Vikings got their new wideout while Pats are stacking them picks.

Geno Smith is going home, he isn't attending the 2nd day of the draft and he also refused interviews. Surely this is the worst thing he could have done... it shows him to be mentally weak. . .

To be honest, I can't remember us ever getting better value with the amount of picks we landed. Just for trading away a first rounder.

I couldn't believe it myself when I heard about it.:D

Vikings got 3 blue chip players now it just has to work out for them. Sadly my signature wasn't true but I think we saw that coming a very long while ago.

However I got this one right from last year woo

I disagree if you watched him vs Clemson he was very poised, operates from under the centre a lot more then Geno does. I think if the 'Noles continue their BCS run he could sneak into the first round. A team will like his Cam Newton esque qualities.

Though maybe not so much sneak into the first round..

Vikings called the pats where as the cowboys called the 49ers, leverage was different in each trade

You don't remember 2010 when we got a fourth for moving down two spots in a trade from Josh?

And that wasn't the best deal because we traded the 24 then to the Cowboys along with that fourth and moved down another two spots and ended up with a third round pick for moving down 5 spots.

I would agree but understand why he decided to go home.. I dont know why but I already have a disliking for him before the draft so hopefully he goes to the Raiders :D

Is it only Lacey left in the green room??

What are you's going to get out of those picks though? You could stack a lot of WR's that's for sure but other then a small number of OL there aren't that many note worthy players left that you need.

Although the trade with NE was a rip off, the Vikes are doing a great job. 3 strong starters will offer much improvement to an already playoff team!

We kept the 1st in 2010 and landed a 4th by dropping slightly. Last night we gave away a 1st and landed a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a 7th. That to me is way better value. Especially looking at the 1st round quality available in this years draft.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that Corvus. I feel we done brilliant work in 2010.

I fully agree that it was the right move for the Patriots to get more picks and leave us in a position that if there is somebody we really want that we now have the picks to trade up. We got slight value out of it but nothing more imo. It does suit the Patriots for sure though.

Where will Geno go now. Get the feeling Jags will go with Barkley.

Geno to Cards, sit behind Carson for 18 months and then stick it to teams for passing on him!!!

Dont understand all the love for Geno from analysts and people on here, average QB!

He came across very cock-sure of himself on the Gruden camps and with the Mariucci interview. Very much the opposite of Luck, Griffin and even Osweiler who advertised themselves on it. It almost seemed like a chore for him to be there. But that's probably just his way.

Add in a poor record the second half of last season and I'm not all that surprised.

    Some thoughts on last night:
Can't believe the 49ers didn't trade back into the 1st round! They could have easily given up the low round picks the Vikings did and have the Pats pick and pick 34 today!

Why would the 49ers need to trade back into the first round for? They already took a safety and have pick 34 coming up to address D-line, if that's where they want to go. It would have been pointless doing that.

Best QB in this draft. Someone is getting an absolute bargain with him in the 2nd

I'm tired saying but he is not an NFL calibre QB. I'll say it once more when he is drafted and then when he starts for a team, if he ever does.

Best of a bad bunch though so I can easily understand why there were other, better players selected before him. I don't doubt however that Smith and Barkley would be starters in the league and when you look at the likes of Sanchez and Gabbert starting in the pros it must be galling for these guys to be still waiting to be selected.

The Cowboys have had a bit of a shocker, haven't they? Got very little in all honesty for moving down considering what the 49ers had to offer and then took a center who they could have got in round 2 in the 1st.

The Bills first round was nothing short of idiotic.

Big fan of the Panthers, Steelers (unfortunately), Rams and Vikings draft so far.

The Bills and Cowboys, not so much!

Some of my quick thoughts on the draft.

Good picks by Chiefs and Jags to solidify their O-Lines. I was surprised by the Dolphins trading up to get Jordan, they should have gone with Lane Johnson but the Eagles fan in me is quite pleased with how things turned out! I think that Jordan and Mingo at 6 have bust potential written all over them. Both are superb athletes but there were more productive pass rushers in college then both of them but as ever teams see their physical numbers and think that they've got a superstar at the top of the draft.

Cooper to the Cards, Warmack to the Titans and Flucker to the Chargers are all good picks that should shore up their poor lines. The Raiders were pick pocketed for the 3rd choice by the Dolphins but it was still the best thing for them to do as they manage to get back into the second round and they selected a talented corner in Hayden.

Dont like the EJ Manuel pick by the Bills. Even if they didnt have Kolb on their roster I dont rate Manuel. In college he was able to take advantage of a superb Seminoles defence but could only post pedestrian numbers and he never impressed me at Florida State to the same extent that Ponder did in the past, although he also was an obvious reach.

Jarvis Jones to the Steelers is a great choice. He was the opposite of Jordan and Mingo; ultra productive in college. He'll be a great pro and a steal at 17. Good to see the Bengals give Dalton a quality TE in Eifert.

The Vikes did a great job on opening draft day. They were a playoff team last year based solely on Adrian Peterson but replacing Williams with Floyd at DT is a superb value pick. Xavier Rhodes was rated in our mock draft as the top CB and should be a good replacement for Winfield. They gave away a bit to get back into the first to select Patterson but he's a talented WR and with Jenning and him they should at least give Ponder some options in the passing game

See really it makes no difference depending on some teams needs. Bill are likely to take a WR later on and really the drop off isn't that huge

Fair enough entitled to your opinion (and I seem to be in the minority on here) but I think he can be an excellent NFL QB.

I don't see anything lacking when you match him up against mid level QB's like Bradford, Dalton, Cutler and he is a awful lot better than Gabbert, Ponder, Weeden.

Only time will tell I guess

Bradford, Cutler and Dalton are alot better in my opinion. The other three shouldnt be starting QBs but that doesnt mean he should be either.

Yea if they wanted a centre they should have taken Jones or Warford if they wanted a guard.

The Bills 1st round was going very well until they made their pick!!

I think the Rams did really well with the 2 moves and got 2 very athletic guys who will surely give them a boost
Not sure about the Vikings. Floyd looks like a steal but it's hard to know. I wouldn't have bothered moving up for WR. There are plenty of good ones still on the board

Some cracking players still on the board for tonight. A lot of teams will get fantastic value.

I'm a big fan of Bradford and I think we started to see the player he could be last season, he's had barely any weapons on offence with the Rams so far and no continuity at all with the various coaching changes. Watch him continue to improve next season, Austin and Bradford will be a great duo.
