Be interesting to see how they handle no head gear for Rio, reckon it could really change things up

As well as people think Katie Taylor is doing, it's a shame we dont have any proper athletes contending for medals. This business of women fighting each other is a bit of a joke, in my opinion. It's disappointing to hear all this Irish media hype about her - I wouldntmind if it was a 100m athlete or swimming champion in a proper olympic sport. She is a credit to the travelling community though.

Oh sweet jesus, not this again

    Also, she isn't a traveller?

On today's market the bronze medal consisting of 97% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin is only worth $4.17.

Silver are Gold are worth considerably more at $330 and $644 respectively.
I heard somewhere that the gold medal is actually mostly silver.

    Edit: Found it
    Medal specification
    - The London 2012 Olympic medals weigh 375-400g, are 85mm in diameter and 7mm thick.
    - The gold medal is made up of 92.5% silver and 1.34% gold, with the remainder copper (a minimum of 6g of gold).
    - The silver medal is made up of 92.5% silver, with the remainder copper.
    - The bronze medal is made up of 97.0% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin.

That's right, just looking at the figures here, each gold medal is 92.5% silver, 1.34% gold with the remainder copper.

The silvers are 92.5% silver with the remainder copper.

EDIT: Sorry didn't notice your last post.

Jimmy Magee doesn't believe in retirement he'll pop his cloggs on the job

probably get a heart attack when katie taylor wins gold

Id love to see all these "womens boxing isn't a sport" muppets stand in the ring with any of the olympic female boxers and see how they feel after the first round ( if they're still concious)

Most peoples arguments about synchronised swimming aren't based in sexism.

I haven't seen anyone on here saying anything about synchronised swimming? IMO that requires a lot more skill and strength and fitness than the diving.

Can't stand to see football at the Olympics. Going to overdose after Euro2012. What next for olympic sports - chess playing, motorsport, wingsuit jumping ?

Fantastic stuff by Conlan. It was a very close fight, but imo his tactics and punches were spot on.

The French guy was doing fine, but landed nothing most of the time.

You can hit 100 punches and still lose to 1 quality punch.

Thats the name of the game

I saw a synchronised swimming act on Britains Got Talent a few weeks ago. A talent show like that is the right place for it.

They're actually using Mongolian gold in the medals.

The classic olympic sports are gymnastics, weight lifting, track and field, and swimming. Nonsense such as sailing, womens boxing, etc is a side show which devalues the medals of the athletes of the classic disciplines.

And sitting in front of mindless TV like that is clearly the right place for you.
