Nifty new option to Parcel Motel, they are now allowing automatic payments for stays in their establishments, no more need to top up an account, although you can do that too.
From now on my account will be automatically deducted the three fiddy each time, far more convenient, now to await my delivery of Castlevania IV!

It's always been like that, assuming you had a Credit Card linked to your account...

That's not new that's always been there, it used to be a seperate option on the site called pay as you go but now they do it automatically if you associate a credit card to the account.

Well, I never knew that, or at least it wasn't front and centre, pretty neat anyhow!

Gran turismo 6 has been announced and set for release at the end of the year. Probably a day 1 purchase for me, although I never really got into GT5.

Now that is a strange decision. I'd be more likely to believe that it was due to it being illegal in some regions rather than feedback since I can't see it being anything but pure profit for EA.

Do you guys watch many Youtube channels? I have to admit, it's something I've never done.

The only time I find myself using Youtube (or any other online video) is when I'm browsing and happen to come across something.

Even at that, I rarely watch them start to finish.

Having recently changed my primary email over to Gmail, I suddenly found I had a youtube account. Since then, I've started subbing to different channels & have definitely been staying up to date more with stuff I'd normally watch in passing

I don't have an issue with them blocking LPers monetising video's. If it's only their own ads that they're using and not making money from other peoples work there's no problem.

How do LP'ers make money from their vids?

Become YouTube partners and monetize their videos.

You can of course also become a partner with a third party company and they'll pay you per view. Depends on how popular your channel is.

My channel isn't very popular for gaming stuff but I hope to change that soon.

I have a few older skit videos that generated alot of views back in the day so I was accepted into the partner program on the back of that after I removed some copyright infringing material from my page.

I'd have to be posting regular enough videos for them to want to promote me in searches etc though.

My understanding is , you lose the right to monetise that video , and nintendo stick their ads over it.
To be honest I'm in two minds of it.
On the on hand , if you do a lets play of a nintendo game , the game itself is their content..fair enough.
But the performance (i.e. how you play) plus commentary , plus any other stuff you've added in is all your own work.I'm assuming this is a proper lets play here , and not just recorded gameplay footage..
So what the viewer sees is a combination of the two.In a perfect world N would be able to put ads up , but the creator could still monetise (and unless you've got huge numbers we're talking a few pence/couple of euro here).
Also bear in mind most 'lets plays' act as an ad in themselves
(you see guy playing robocop 2 , you get nostalgic and download it from VC/psn/xboxwhateveritscalled).Even if the game is terrible and you're slagging it off , the act of seeing it being played may be enough to get a sale..
Right now for me I dont monitize, in a while once I can get sub numbers up(hopefully)I'll look at it.I reckon it might earn me enough to pick up the odd cheap ebay pickup for the channel , so its really just funding the hobby.

I'll return the favor once I work out why it wont let me change my featured channels!

The performance would probably be considered a form of derivative work. While nintendo wouldn't own it and have no way of legally monetising it themselves without the person's permission at the same time they still have the power to block it. The only legal way for either to do it is to strike a deal.

Sonic 1 released on iOS and Android that allows you to play as Tails & Knuckles. O_o

Isn't using footage for the purpose of review or education allowed under copyright law?

Something like Research Indicates's Trespasser and Frank Cifaldi's Gimmick let's play would definitely fall into the educational or review camp.

The trouble with 'fair use' clauses is that it's up to a court to decide if it's fair use or not. And it rarely goes to court as it's invariably cheaper to settle out of court even if you do win the case. Law firms know this and have made an industry out of it.
