I think it was the first VHS tape I ever watched. We rented it from Golden Discs.

Mark Balelo has died. Who, you ask? Mr. NES-001 himself. Apparently committed suicide after a drugs arrest. But he is immortalised in his own way:

So my pal s video cable was posted yesterday so hopefully I'll get it in the next few days. £13.76 sterling is what it came to with normal postage (£9.90 for the item rest on post) for anyone who's interested. Priority would have been dearer. **** that!!

Looking forward to playing Zelda OOT as I never actually completed it. To be honest I doubt I got a quarter of the way through it. Was more interested in pick up and play games back in the day.
Will get Majoras Mask after I complete OOT.

I also got Lylat wars, Goldeneye and ISS64 to keep me going which I was a massive fan of when I owned my last N64.

On my must get list to get are Zelda Majoras Mask, Perfect Dark, Turok 2, Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing and finally wcw v nwo (controversial I know but most of these games are more for nostalgia than anything to be fair)

That's off the top of my head.

Anyone care to name any other "must have" titles.

And if anyone hears of 2 controllers and an expansion pack for sale let me know!

    Good news:

New Metal Slug game and it's free!

    Bad news:

    It's an iOS RTS title.

Where to start with the abomination levels we are witnessing here?

Completely missing the point of the franchise by changing it to a polar opposite genre? check!
Only making it available to Apple products? Check!
Making it a phone based game? Check!

I'm going to put it out there that I hate playing games on my IPod Touch.

The controls are useless and it drains the battery within seconds.

I'm sure you can hook up a controller somehow and if you keep it plugged in that'll take care of the battery life issue but seriously its just a pain in the hole.

I'll stick to my NGPC, DS and PSP thanks.

40hours gameplay on the NGPC with Metal Slug 1st and 2nd mission all the way.

    No thanks IOS

I'll also put out there that I think Android/iOS games are total garbage. There, I said it. I wish this trend of glorified mobile phone games died a death.

That's way too generalised. There are dozens of superb, inventive iOS and Android games out there that understand both the format's strengths and limitations. Drop 7, Spider, The Room, Super Hexagon, SpaceChem, Rayman Jungle Run, Beat Sneak, SuperBrothers Sword & Sorcery EP, Joe Danger Touch, Infinity Blade etc... - They all have imagination to spare, and can be every bit as compelling as their bigger brothers. Ports of Ghost Trick, Walking Dead, Phoenix Wright etc... also go to show it can be a good home for more familiar genres.

Yes, there are problems (**** you microtransactions). Yes a lot of crap gets undeserved success. And trying to simply copy traditional gameplay and inputs doesn't work - anything reliant on a digital D-Pad or analogue stick is doomed to failure (although I'm constantly amazed at how well Cave games work on iOS - absolutely stunning ports). Mobile gaming isn't going anywhere, and there are enough amazing games on there to see it as a medium with a lot of potential - that can complement rather than replace the types of game we're used to.

Maybe it is yeah, I can only speak of what I've played though. Your right about it not going away, in fact things are heading towards mobile rather than away from it.

Personally speaking I'm not even a big fan of traditional handheld consoles, so given that, playing games on phones does not appeal to me in any way shape or form.

Simply put, what's the point of them?

If you're sitting at home then you will have your consoles to play.

If you go out and about for extended periods you need to play a game, bring a 3DS. It's not like it's the size of a Nomad.

I don't understand the reason for playing games on phones? Input tends to be awful and it drains the hell out of your battery.

Realistically I should be a target market as I commute for 2-3 hours a day on public transport and spend the whole time on my phone. I have games, but play none of them. Just browse the net and boards for the journey. If I really want to play a game then I'll bring my 3DS.

Maybe I'm just an old crank, stuck in my ways, I dunno. I just don't see the point.

Well, I agree mostly, but then you get Jetpack Joyride, Swords and Sworcey and the wonderful Super Hexagon.
Every games platform, even lousy ones, hve something to offer the eclectic minded gamer, aside from the CDi, that's pure sh1te!? I mean, have you seen Zelda or Burn Cycle on that thing, it's hideous! Imagine the numptys that bought one!

Some are, there are great ones too though, The Walking Dead, Zookeeper DX, Tetris, DoDonPachi and some racing games all work really well on iOS. If you have an android tablet or phone you have the option of using a ps3 or xbox controller too, its handy if you were stuck someplace without a full console. I bring my nexus tablet to work with me and can play stuff like emulators on my breaks or when its dead quiet, sitting at work playing Resi 2 on a playstation pad is the job :pac:

The best thing about the CDi is the off switch.
It's most tragic feature is that the curious can accidentally turn it on without fully understanding the wickedness they are unleashing.
It's makes other pants consoles seem wonderful in comparison, Amstrad GX, NGage, PSVita....

Ah hear now........ the CDi is leagues better than the Amsturd GX. Its got longer controller leads for a start and also.. no wait that's all I got.

The only redeeming feature of the Amstrad is all the carts are eeproms so can be re-written with a less sh1te game. Obviously Alan didn't have enough faith in the console to pay for ROMs.

Well, there you go, a less sh1tty game, there are no less sh1tty games on the CDi, all are equally sh1te.

I actually found the back catalogue of CDi software any contrary to what you say the games seemed to be available in various shades of sh1te. Here's the top 9;)

No Guinness/ on Iron Supplement Black?
No Ate Sweetcorn For Dinner Yesterday But Didn't Chew Enough Yellow Polkadots on Brown?

And Retr0, you've been banging that drum for ages and no one, not one regular here agrees with you!
Even Sera can't bring herself to say the abomination that she appreciates the CDi Zelda games, and she loves you! Or at least likes you lot.....

the one and only time I ever played a CDi was having a go on Dragon's Lair for a few minutes in an electronics shop donkeys years ago, wasn't the controller some godawful tv remote looking thing?

There's only one real answer: because there's some great games on mobile platforms. If I have access to a specific gaming platform, and there's worthwhile games available for it, I'm not going to ignore them! I often find myself particularly playing iOS games between different activities. If I have ten minutes to kill, I can simply pull out my phone and give something a quick whirl and actually achieve something - I tend to find mobile developers have a better grasp of the idea of 'portability' than many portable developers. I love Virtue's Last Reward, for example, but that's a game where I usually need to commit an hour or two to get anything done - that's no slight given how good the game is, but at the same time often seems ill-suited to short commutes. Most of the best mobile games joyfully understand the concept of 'bite size'. I think we can all appreciate the type of 'instant' game that doesn't require massive time commitment. And of course the App and Play stores have blown the gaming market wide open - I'm personally all for anything that makes our hobby more accessible to a wider range of people.

I always have my phone on me, and it has lots of interesting games worth playing - IMO it would simply be a bit of waste not to experience them alongside my 3DS, PC or console games!

Hmmm, perhaps I don't get it as I'm not really into bite sized gaming. I either am playing a game or I'm not. I don't really tinker about with them for a few minutes if you know what I mean.

If I'm playing a short game (shortest will probably be an arcade game) then I'll be trying to either 1cc or get a high score. Not things which are really compatible with playing a game of something for 5 minutes :D

Which is one of the reasons the console gets an unfair bad rep. The remote control is god awful but you can get joypads for it, it's just they are extremely difficult to find and it was only recently that the only CDi emulator didn't support joypads, only mouse until very recently. It doesn't help that the emulator is a pile of dung as well. It's kind of ridiculous when some one like game trailers is doing a feature on how bad the zelda CDi games are and how awful the controls are when you can quite clearly see a mouse cursor on screen meaning they are playing it on an emulator that barely works.

Yeah the CDi is a piece of crap but there's a handful of good titles on there. I wouldn't recommend buying one.

Well bite-sized gaming is just one benefit - plenty justify longer sessions too.

    Super Hexagon manages both ;)

Super Hexagon is the gaming equivalent of sex. It's very enjoyable and on average I last less than 30 seconds.
