    Hi guys,

Three months to the start of the regular season, so I just said I'd get the ball rolling on next years Fantasy Hockey season. I'm sure some of last years regulars will be interested. If you'd like to compete, just reply here and we can get more serious around September time. I'll send out PM's then as well to the people who have visited the forum over the past season.

    Roll on October 11th!

    This is it.
on paper you might think you have the best playres , but it doesnt work out that way.
    every season is different.
I learned a thing or two about concussions as well.
you just cant factor stuff like that in!

How did people find the overall setup last year? Number of teams, roster size, daily roster changes, scoring categories etc...?

Anyone want to see any changes?

I would like to see shots blocked in there in some form. Not a massive fan of PIMs. Other than this (and my results) I think it was A1.

Spot the Rangers fan! I do agree though. PIM's are annoying but challenging also, +/- is my personal annoyance.

will you be setting it up as a budget draft or just an ordinary snake draft???
i was in two budget drafts and they were a lot better than the ordinary ones, but you definitely have to do a mock draft to get used to it...

I tried both last year, and preferred the normal snake draft. But I don't really mind, I'll go with whatever the majority are happy with.

Just seen the thread, count me in for sure.

I was grand with all the cats. PIMs was probably my least favourite as my team didn't play dirty enough and I lost the cat most weeks..

If cats are to be added I prefer on the skater side of things. I guess blocked shots, hits and/or shooting % are meaty cats to accumulate stats for scoring. Also maybe add an extra bench spot for carrying an injured/concussed player who aint put on the IR.

As for the league setup more teams is good, upto 16. I'd stick with the snake draft and daily roster changes.

Is everyone still in for this? We may need to get the ball rolling quite quickly, as the league will probably be starting in the next two weeks. The 8 people on this thread who have expressed an interest so far are below, if everyone could re-confirm interest that would make things far easier. I will start to send PM's to some more of the posters on here to see if anyone else has any interest.

Any time between the 15th and 19th January. Will either be an unbalanced 50-game season, or a balanced 48-game season (each divisional team x 5, each conference team x 2). No inter-conference matchups.

    From Yahoo:
Important: Head-to-Head leagues which draft on Tuesday, Jan 15 or later will miss fantasy Week 1, which runs Tuesday, Jan 15 - Sunday, Jan 20. These leagues will start scoring in the next full fantasy week after their draft.

So the draft will have to be next week, or Monday 14th January. Can people let me know their preferences for the draft? After 11pm any night suits me, or any time after 6pm on Sunday.

Also, what categories are we going with this year? Should we leave it the same or is there enough demand to add/remove some? Personally, I'd like +/- gone, but it doesn't bother me too much if it stays.

9pm onwards would be preferrred time generally.

    The GAG Line - COYW
    Golden Flames - malistheman

Anyone up for adding something to the defensive side like Blocks?

I'd be up for that. COYW would be too, I'd imagine. Anyone against it?

Also, since there are only 10 gameweeks this season before the Fantasy Playoffs start, does anyone think that the Head-to-Head probably isn't the best way to go about it? The way it is at the moment, I play each team once but also play three teams twice, not very balanced.

Maybe a Rotisserie league would be better?
haven't received a pm yet.. do you have the league ID
    /password for the league?

Will PM you shortly. The teams from last season should have received e-mails to the address registered last year.

yeah count me in - I dont understand the draft thingy though

The draft is simple once you see it in action. If you log into the link at which you created your team, you will be able to take part in a mock draft. You can find the option named 'Mock Drafts' on the 'Draft Central' menu. On loading the 'Mock Drafts' screen, click on the 'Quick Start' button for the standard drafts.

    Example draft:

Lets say MrJoeSoap, me, you and smackbunnybaby are in a league on our own and are going to do a draft. We each get assigned a seed, 1-4, randomly. Let's say it works out as :

    1. MrJoeSoap
    2. COYW
    3. Ping Chow Chi
    4. smackbunnybaby

So, in round one of the draft, MrJoeSoap gets first pick of a player from all the players in all the teams in the NHL for his squad. I get second, you third and so on. In round two, smackbunnybaby (the last seed) gets first pick, Ping Chow Chi second, i'm third and so on. The draft continues in this pattern until our squads are full.

Great call, smackbunnybaby, I think blocks would be a great addition. They can be as good as a goal in some cases.

Head to head won't work this year, go with the other one... Blocks are cool with me too

How are we going to determine draft order? And can we trade picks?

Draft order is random, assigned by Yahoo. No trading of picks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Ok the league is now a Rotisserie league (explained here), and Blocks are now a scoring category.

The 8 teams in the league are:

    Board Street Bullies - MrJoeSoap
    Henry Le Cheat - Coeus
    BeechwoodSnowBadgers - smackbunnybaby
    The GAG Line - COYW
    Golden Flames - malistheman
    izy's penguins - izy
    Do you lift? - ?
    Bettman's Angels - ?

Anyone else looking for invites or instructions on how to join, please let me know via PM.

Do we need do reach out for more players to make it competitive? Might be some alds in the Fantasy NFL/MLB who might give it a whirl.
    Short enough season too!

As far as I know there are still two more to join (Shanannigan and Ping Chow Chi) which would bring us into double figures. I thought that 12 was a good number last season, but it'd be great if everyone who was in the league was active in it and didn't let it slide after a week or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,546 ✭✭✭Masked Man

If your stuck for numbers I'd be interested. I'm not a Hockey regular but I've been active in 6 different fantasy leagues on boards. Don't feel under pressure to add numbers for me though.

I agree 12 is good! We could go as far as 16 as we do for the boards fantasy football leagues and the fantasy baseball league last year. Of course it would be challenging then :)

The biggest challenge would be to find that many people interested and get everyone on board before the season starts!

Winning is the easy part. :p
