Seems like this has been a moderate rather than heavy event for most areas affected, but the cumulative effects are the big problem.
You mean there's more to come?
It's getting near time to start building.

    Folks,

The rain on the Northside of Dublin has been persistent, but not torrential - there has been no thunder or lightning - why is it different on the Southside - are the mountains triggering more intense convection or something? Even looking at RainToday the rader pattern is more intense on the Southside than it has been on the Northside.

Your right about the persistent rain but as was forecast that it could just be moderate rain

Haven't came across too many posts of torrential rain or thunder/lightening apart from Cherryghost post above

There doesn't seem to be too much activity on the Southside either but would love a good thunder storm

Orographic rainfall. The mountains are rain generators for south Dublin in these setups (as opposed to a rain shield in the usual setup of the low passing to our northwest giving S/SW winds and the other side of the mountains sucking up the rain), and contributed to the floods of last October a lot.

It's been persistently moderate here all day up until the past hour or so. Nothing really heavy or thundery. No Sferics detected in the Dublin region today either, so that thunder/lightning report may be inaccurate.

Better stop raining this weekend, crops lodged or near as and silage too wet to cut. :(

23mm fell here south east of the Wicklow mountains from midday yesterday.
The rain gauge wasn't put up until then the morning's rainfall wasn't recorded.

No electrics though, thankfully, we've lost two computers as a consequence of lightning here in recent years.
