Is Conal O'Brolchain one of the centres? He was decent in the one match I saw him in, against Nure. Not as good as the Nure centres though, but still good.

No, O'Brochlain has graduated. The 12 is Kevin O'Connor, who's a good player, solid defensively and is very good taking ball on. The 13 is Andy Marks, superb player, he scored a hat trick vs KH last week, and I believe he scored one against Terenure last year as well. He was a winger on last year's cup team. They're both in 5th year as well so they should be playing next year.

Was just looking at todays league results and the much fancied castleknock team that have destroyed all before them were beaten 30-3 by Roscrea. This now means roscrea will top the group as they still have to play high school who have lost every game. Pres and gerards drew 10-10. Does anybody know the score from the newbridge v wesley game, its not up on the leinster website

Yeah, I am a (long-suffering) Gonzaga man. I still watch all the home games and some away ones so I have a fair idea of the set-up.
Also, I don't know has it been mentioned yet, but Gonzaga beat St. Gerard's in the Junior QF yesterday.

Harrison Is over hyped. I've watched him play at schools and leinster. I could name players in his position who are a lot better.

Well he's the incumbent Leinster and Irish schools 12 so somebody somewhere thinks he is half decent..

but thats a lot to do with influence. I know off hand a lot better players, sure when i was watching him play with leinster he didn't make any runs, he just stood there

  • Registered Users Posts: 113 ✭✭PaulyBolger

Don't get me wrong, he is a good player, but i just don't think he's irish standard.

who would you have picked in the centre for irish schools this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 113 ✭✭PaulyBolger

Not too sure on names, but the 12 off clongowes is in a higher class than harrison in my opinion.

Well he was Irish standard as an U17 and will be again this year.

You said in a previous post you could name several players off hand who were better but here you say you aren't too sure on names? Solid argument mate.

Fromm? How come he was overlooked by the provincial selectors?

Brewer is overhyped but he is still a very good prospect.

In fairness to him some provincial selection is very questionable. For example the likes of Jamie Lawless and Tyrone Moran being seelcted to play for Leinster A tomorrow. Both average players in my eyes. Also the selection of Adam Byrne at 15 was questionable too.

You are probably right mostly because of who is father is. He probably isn't having quite the impact at senior level as he did at junior level but that's partly because he has changed position and is probably still learning 12. Still not sure he has the pace for it but he has a great rugby brain and physically he is going to have no problem.

Fromm's german and he already spends 3/4 of the year here so understandably in the summer he just wants to go home. He was selected for the leinster 19s this summer but didnt partake

Whatever happened to Fitzpatrick, the Leinster 20's fullback? I heard he was playing for Trinity this year but then again, could be just rumours. From what I saw for the U20's this year, he was excellent, and surely better than Byrne at fullback.

I must say I like Jack Fitzpatrick. I don't think he's the most threatening player with ball in hand, but I think he's quite an intelligent and skilled footballer. I watched him play in last seasons senior cup and he was brilliant. His effort was what you want from your captain (at least I think he was captain) and I remember he had to be taken off with a concussion or something. He gave it bloody everything.

One small thing was his ball placement. It's a very minor detail but it's a sign of a smart player. Every time he went to ground he put the ball on a plate for his scrum-half.

You say he's "surely" better than Byrne, but I don't know about that. Byrne is much more of a threat when he's on the ball imo. I would like to see Fitzpatrick get more opportunities though.

Read an interview with Conor O'Shea over a month ago where he talks a bit about his schooling in Terenure. Interesting to see he is already aware of Billy Dardis.
"And in Girvan Dempsey, Ciaran Clarke and myself there have been a few good full-backs come out of there — though young Billy Dardis looks like he will be the best of them all."

When I said surely better than Byrne, I just meant as a fullback. That is considering that Fitzpatrick is a specialist full back, and Byrne is naturally a centre or a winger. I rate Byrne very highly as well, I think he's a quality operator when he has the ball and just needs to make minor tweaks to his game such as distribution and decision making. Great to see a guy like Byrne come through the Clubs system and that it's not just the same old schools churning out the big names.
