Anyone come across any recommended 250GB SSD's on similar offer but with a SATA II connection?
I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro, apparently they don't have a SATA III connection and are only compatible with SATA II...

SATA III is backward compatible. I'm typing this on a 2009 MBP with the Samsung 830 installed.

Yep, me too. You wont get the full benefit of the 830 but it'll definitely work.

Well just to update you on my struggle.. I downloaded windows 7 from http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/3316.2-1-microsoft-windows-7-official-iso-download-links-digital-river.aspx

    installed it fine.

Its just the screen looks a bit funny, not as sharp. as if its 32bit not 64bit maybe? I put the screen resolution on high.. and in the control panel - system..it says "64bit operating system"

Although there is nearly 300mb of updates which i am going to download now...and maybe the samsung drivers etc need to be downloaded also

Sounds like your graphics drives are not installed. It might come down in an update but you might also have to download from nvidia or amd.

Thanks Sad Prof and garion for clearing that up, just read this recommendation by a crowd that mods MacBooks and got the impression that SATA III was incompatible.

Guess I should ignore it so?

it's, completely safe to ignore it, I have two sata3 ssd's in my sata2 pc running very happy for over a year now.

    Totally 100% backwards compatible. :)

Just poorly worded. They should have said that you won't gain the full speed of a 6Gbps drive. It's also obsolete advice as the Intel 320 has been superseded by the 330 (which is poor value). The spelling and grammar diminishes their credibility too! :pac:

I'd like to compare my results to other Sata3 users, if you've got this drive and it's connected by Sata3, post(or PM) results!

Thanks Monotype + vibe666, think they are a German outfit and may have trouble with their English presentation. Think I saw them promoted for a comp on cultofmac.com so presumed they would be up to scratch.

This drive is fantastic value for money. I'm running it in a Dell E6420 with the Windows 8 preview, boots in seconds...

One word of caution. I had issues with the Macbook firmware and had to downgrade from 1.7 to 1.6 in order to successfully install OSX on my 830. See this thread for more info. I think this may be just for 2009 MBP though so if you've a 2010 then it might not be necessary.
