Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

just found an idiom yous might find useful in the exam... faire une carte de france! literal meaning: make a map of france

actual meaning: have a wet dream :P

Haha wtf? How does that translate to wet dream??

One of those 'just lie back and think of France' moments ;-)

There we go, into the diary entry you go!

Not great, just something I threw together for those stuck for ideas! I typed it in less than 10 mins so beware of potential mistakes! :P

The IRA that actually fought for Ireland's freedom in 1916, not the idiots nowadays that think they are the IRA

There was no IRA in 1916.

Question for all you francophones! Am I able to use the same vocab for all the opinion pieces? I've a nice little opening sentence that I generally use but is it okay to re-use it?

For Different pieces yes, technically that should be okay. Just dont re-use it in the same one.

Hey, I was just wondering if someone could clarify something for me: y'know in the written section, I know you must do Q1 but then after that, do you only have to do two from either Q's 2, 3 and 4? I'm sure it's only two, but je suis un peu nerveuse. *please let that be right* Merci et bonne chance (:

What's the layout for an email?

    Date:
    À:
    De:
    Objet:

    *Email*

That's it, order doesn't matter for the first four lines because there's no marks going for layout, unlike letters.

Actually a bit freaked about french, its one of my requirements but its not so much that as the fact that this exam might be weird to answer or very specific. I mean, reading over some of your stuff posted on here, my french phrases are relatively simple and I think I'll look incredibly stupid :o

I think I'll have to change my whole CAO if tomorrow goes bad! :/

I assumed the letter came up every year, what are the chances of it not coming up because our teacher didn't cover anything else with us.

I think it's right, I have a (very!) vague recollection of being told that it's the opposite to how we write it in English :)

This is the most important exam for me but I just cant study french because I prefer to just go with what I think with the question. I hope to God this exam is decent!

Anybody got any more on the letter layout? What I know so far is that the addresses are laid out like this

[sender's address] - [recipient's address (other side of page)]

    [to whoever]
    [body of letter]
    [goodbye bit]

Does anyone know if that would get full marks for layout?

Poverty was up in 2007. Volunteering was up in 2010. :)

@Dwellingdweller the only other thing you need is [Town, Date] above the (recipient's) address on the right. :)

Is it possible to get pretty decent marks if you have a perfect essay but it's only at the very minimum (75-90?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

Definitely fine! you only need to get the 75-90 to get full marks also i have been told by teachers if you write too much they stop correcting , that could cut out your ending and you can lose marks so don't write too much!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

hey i keep seeing people talk about traffic as a topic to come up? I'm a bit confused as to what they could ask on that? any suggestions would be helpful please..

Phew that's a relief! I'm using really simple phrases though, but better than making mistakes I guess!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭amyleaving

Well to get the full marks you should learn off some of the key phrases
i think this site is good ,
    http://www.francais.ie/leaving_cert/writing/essay_writing/
once you stick a few in your essay say one for the opening , your opinion and a solution you should be fine!
thats true less room to make mistakes. I wouldn't worry to much anyway :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭grantyrs10

quick question please answer, you know in the section 2 written production, i know you must do q1 but can you do the next two as in q2a and q2b or does it have to be one from 2 then one from either 3 or 4 ???? please just gettin worried now !!

i dont think that is enogh to get high marks... Carinne Gavenda on rte countdown to 606 said should be about 100-125 and that you will never be penalised for excess!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,813 ✭✭✭Togepi

You can't do 2A and 2B, same goes for questions 3 and 4. Do question 1, then one from 2, 3 or 4, and another from 2, 3 or 4, excluding the one you've already answered from!

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭smithy77

Ive just gone over poverty in the 3rd world. the homeless. drugs. obesity, the media and youth, emigration, unemployement.
I really have like 2-3 sentences on each.
I have 2 seperate layouts that I can slot the points into and that's my 75/90 words. :)

    Its not the worse.

Also. does anybody know if there;s extra paper to plan our answers? Either on the paper or that we can ask for. I reaaallly need to plan before!
