Ah yes, I remember the days of playing PC Doom, Duke 3D and Quake with arrow keys, Ctrl for shoot and alt for strafe.

Dont think I really used WASD and mouse until HL came along. I quite like it for Quake, but Doom and Duke 3D don't feel right unless you're using the arrow keys :)

Picked up "Puzzle Bobble" & "Metal Slug" for the Neogeo. Both bootlegs but hey the price was right :)

Duke 3D was a bit of a balls this way as you had take your right hand off the arrows, and use 7 and 1 on the numpad to aim up and down!

Its much easier to play it with WASD these days.

Old school Duke Nukem 3D worked with mouse look and WASD as did all the build engine games.

That's true, but I bet very few, if any used it that way when it came out first.

The default controls were the arrow keys.

Yeah it didn't even occur to me to switch to WASD and the mouse at the time as I didn't know that setup existed.

It was only with Quake that the set up became popular, although games like Descent and system shock had something similar as the defualt set up.

Ah no way, from the pic I assume Squeek is the same game as Slider on the Game Gear? I still play Slider regularly, great fun

    Very nice

Always wondered why the box has a wood grain pattern on it, first time I saw one I though it was a special edition and expected the phone to have the same pattern

All of their Galaxy phones seem to have this. My S4 (may she rest in peace) had this effect on the box too.

I thought similar. It's kind of an odd design. That said, the Note 3 has a weird leather back, totally different to my S4 and the Mega I had previously, those designs haven't changed. Loving the S Pen though. That thing is brilliant. If the Mega would have had an S Pen I'd have probably kept it.

Another parcel just arrived too! I forgot I ordered this, the limited edition Darius Odyssey book. This thing is probably the ultimate Darius book by a long way. It's just one giant Darius encyclopedia!

Really nicely laid out, gorgeous print quality and paper stock and tonnes of great photos including sketches, concept art... heck, even photos of the cabinets being built!

Every single Darius game is covered here. It's brilliant. THE #1 Darius resource without question. I'm in love with this book.

Did you get rid of the Nokia Lumia?

When I first saw that you were buying one on here, I was like why the **** are you buying a Windows Phone?

But I never actually said it in a post. :P

I had a Lumia 800 and that went. Had the Galaxy Mega and that went. The Note 3 is a keeper I think! :)

Inverting the y-axis is the right way to do it. all the old school quake players used to do it. It's only when noobies came in that didn't invert that non-inverting became the Justin Bieber of mouse orientation, popular but ultimately wrong.

Inverting the Y axis is for flight sims as it mimics the pilot's stick. You press forward, the plane goes down, you pull back, the plane goes up.

When FPS mouse controls were first being devised, they went with this as it carried on from flight sim type thinking.

As FPS games advanced, it was realized that this was not actually optimum and the Y axis should not be inverted.

When it comes to an FPS, the mouse is your 'eyes' and not a control stick. You look up with your eyes to look up and down with your eyes to look down.

I know you made the argument before that it's actually your 'neck' and not your 'eyes'.

Are you looking around right now with your neck while reading this? I bet not :P

Also just to add - if you invert the mouse look Y axis while you play a FPS, I hope you do the same while navigating your computer's desktop? :P

I suppose you travel to work on a Steam train & sweep chimneys the weekends too? :P For flight sims, yes, absolutely. For an FPS game, mother of god no...it feels awfully unnatural
