They really are something else aren't they?

When I first saw that photo I thought he was after finding some unused high quality CRT somewhere.

    Few bits that arrived today.

Skins for the Wii and DS Lite. I also got one for the 3DS XL but think I'll leave it as they look ok but not great, in fact the DS looks crap really.

More a curio than anything else, a Saturn Modem.

    Edit:
Pic of the inside of the DS, again, looks crappy.
At least there is no sticky mess when you remove the skins.

Stunning. If it looks as good in real life, as it does in those pics, I think I'd be sold on it. I know the price is high, but the quality looks the best I've seen, & right up there with the Greek Mother's crt porn.

    Hah! Funny you say that, my first thought when I saw the photo was;

'Andrew76 has a CRT photography rival!'

    - if only I'd known the witchcraft going on to generate that photo :D

Very expensive alright, but for quality like that... that'd be some solution to your current video issues!

You know you're a mad collector when you buy modems :D Almost bought the Megadrive modem on a couple of occasions.

    :pac:

The more folks into scanlines and posting tasty pics like that the better. Pricey unit but if there's no option for CRT love then why not get it, lovely results.

Was actually testing my NES on a smaller HDTV recently and god it looks muck. So thinking about rearranging the CRT setup, currently two vert and one hori. Might put the Trini back hori and hook up the NES and MD. Leave the other two as is - B&O for Saturn+PS2 vert shmups, Dell for hori supergun fun. Spend more time tinkering than playing games. :o

    Actually, I told a fib
The Famicom game I bought was, in fact, Super Xevious, and in awesome condition too,
Here's an ebay listing so I don't have to take my own photos!
    link
My copy is in the same, if not better, condition, lovely!

Anyone else try this Cyberclean stuff? It's basically like a tub of that green slime goo you got when you were a kid.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160950994141?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Primary function is for getting dirt and dust out of a computer keyboard and other day to day electronic things (I've been rolling it all over my remotes! :D) - but it doubles up as a great cleaner of gaming gear.

It managed to get that annoying ring of dust around arcade stick buttons, dust cover edges, in console buttons, console detailing, even ran it over the back of my CRT to get the dust out of all the grooves :D

I'm interested in seeing if it'll clean the grime off a PCB. Just want to make sure it's non conductive first.

    Edit; info about the stuff-

Nonconductive formula is safe on circuit boards and electronic components

That's class! Going to try it out on a PCB now.

I always wondered if that stuff was any good or not

    Now I know!

Works great on PCBs. I had a really dusty Tetris board and it cleaned it right up.

Picked up Kirby 64, jap version, this morning, traveled into town all special to get it!
It's lovely, the box is a little worse for wear but everything's there.
Now to try it, haven't tried the passthrough adapter in a while, fingers crossed all is well!
The game was only €15 from Super Hoshi in The Twisted Pepper, compared with the €53 upwards the pal version goes for, cart only.
So happy it's there in the collection.
I'll pick up the various other Kirby games over the next while, the platformers anyways, I have one or two dotted around as it stands, for the GB and the like.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,757 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    And....
Kirby 64 is one of the select few titles that doesn't work with a passthrough, or at least the vanilla one I have.
So, choices are to buy an NTSC N64 or another passthrough with the Action Replay function built in.
I only need the console itself, the EU psu will work any region N64.... afaik

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Those pass through things are pretty hit & miss I found, certainly the one I have is anyway. I ended up just biting the bullet on an NTSC N64

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

NTSC N64's shouldn't be too expensive for just the console anyway. Shipping from the states might be though. Looking at getting either an NTSC-J or NTSC one myself.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,757 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Yeah, well that's where I'm at.
Of course I have everything I ever wanted on the PAL N64 and I'm not really interested in building that collection up all over again on an NTSC console.
But then, Waverace 64 at full speed, Mario 64 the same.... might wind up doing it in spite of myself!

Oh, and got the Santy ball rolling today,
Minecraft Guide Book, and Hyrule Historia incoming, as well as Wind Waker HD for Jack for Jebus Day, he has his list almost complete already and these form the backbone of it.
I'm sure there'll be a few surprises as well along the way.
Might look into the new 3DS Zelda game as well.
He's currently blasting away at Skyward Sword, certainly putting a lot more time into it than I have yet done!

Flash caught these two a bit wonky, but it's Gunhound EX (nothing quite like buying games for consoles you dont have!) and after literally years of meaning to buy it, Castlevania: The New Generation. Complete in box and it lovely condition. Thanks OwaynOTT!

That would be a lot of fun, but you'd be at one major disadvantage - the stalls know what they're selling.

Apparently at the Play expo, the stalls were all priced ebay prices and then some. Which is understandable, as the guys had to pay for the stalls, but you won't end up with bargains like at car boots unfortunately :(

    Nice!!!

I still can't get by level 2 in that game :(

Edit; ah I'm thinking of the arcade version rather than Super Ghouls and Ghosts. You know what, I don't think I've ever played that properly!
