I think Charlie whitehurst will be struggling to stick around this year. Best thing he ever did for us was convince Seattle he was worth a third rounder, shareece wright being the pick

It was actually a 2nd round, and a high one too. Traded up to get Mathews with it.

I doubt Hermann makes the team, but great idea to use his athletic ability in training camp.
Charlie is on very little money too, but at least he will have to compete to keep his job.

    You are both kinda right...

The Seahawks agreed to give the Chargers a third-round pick in 2011, and change places in the second round of the draft, which meant San Diego got the eighth pick of the second round -- No. 40 overall -- and Seattle got the 28th pick of the round, No. 60.

The Chargers took that No. 40 pick, packaged it with their first-round choice (No. 28 overall) to constitute the main course of their trade to move up to No. 12 overall. San Diego used that choice to choose running back Ryan Mathews of Fresno State. San Diego then used the 2011 third-round selection it acquired from Seattle to choose cornerback Shareece Wright of USC.

Either way yes Charlie's days might be numbered but I don't see us going into the season with a rookie like Sorensen or even Hermann backing up 17.

Actually I didnt know that, I thought we had traded away out 2nd, it was a great trade by AJ Smith.

I think charlie keeps his job, he is a solid backup

It was a stunner at the time, most agreed Seattle was getting a bad deal at the time and so it proved. All they have to show for it is Golden Tate who they may have drafted anyway!.

To get him back pretty quickly too made it even worse.

Surprised we have made no moves recently. Thought we be in for a pass rusher and NT.

Anyone know what number Te'o is? I heard he got 50, 'Hawaii five-0!'?

Ye he is 50, was going be 51 but changed to 50 for Hawaii the 50th state.

Will have to get his jersey when the new jerseys come out.

You buying real or fake ones. The new ones dont have the white on the collar and the name is in gold. And some other small changes I think.

Feel like im cheating on Butler getting the Te'o jersey :pac:

I'm getting the old ones, I'm not too pushed, the website I'm getting them off 'cheapjersey.com' or something, does them for 18€ a pop, my mate bought 8 in one go before and all were of great quality.

    Rivers
    Gates
    Weddle
    Te'o

    I'm insane.

Could you post up the pics when you get them?
$18 you cant really go wrong.

Anyone see the interview Gates gave about the Top 100.
Loved how fired up he was.

Thank god we have decent cap space this year to resign Butler.

God we can never catch a break two players from same draft class with no history of injuries both tear their ACL.
Losing Melvin is a massive blow, I think we will really struggle to get teams off the field.

Injuries happen but you're right how bad can it get?

If there was one guy outside of Philip of course who we could not afford to go down it was Melvin. In one fell swoop there goes an already poor pass rush. I had great hopes for him this year. And what with SP and Barnes gone we're down to Larry freakin English and some rookies. JJ was never seen as a OLB who could bring the heat so it'll be over to the likes of Tourek or one of the UDFAs. I've heard good things about the Devan Walker lad, at least he is going to get a real shot now.

Freeney is coming in today and I would guess we have to sign him.

Our run defence was always going to be fine but this is a major blow, our corners will have to be amazing to get teams off the field.

Also like the website you linked some nice t shirts on that, might have to hit the bank balance.

I'm not sure Freeney is the answer in a 3-4 but we are desperate now. TT will know him inside out anyways so whatever decision he makes should be the right one.

Yeah those guys in Bolt Complex produce some real cool stuff. Can't wait to the powder blue Manti Diego in the flesh.

Ye totally agree he will offer nothing major but im sure he will be signed, could play him with his hand in the ground in certain packages. I think something we should do with Larry English too.

Did you see the snippets of OTA? Seems like Mathews has lost weight/muscle. Looking a lot smaller which in my opinion is a great thing, he was way too big last year.

Yes Larry with hand on the ground is probably all he is fit for. He played DE in college and it's clear he's found the transition to OLB impossible. I wonder would Mouton be any use as an OLB since it would appear he's been found out as an ILB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

So Freeney is back for more talks today, he took his physical yesterday. Provided he doesn't break the bank I'd be surprised to not see him come in. Quite a few are lumpin on TT for not arming ourselves with enough depth at OLB to cope with a loss like this. That's not on him as yet, he's making the best of a ****e situation right now.

I mean if Derek Cox goes down we're similarly shagged at corner. Same goes for Weddle say, look at the safeties we have jeeez.

I don't see us defensively being good enough to get to the playoffs this year but offensively I think we'll be fine.

Our roster depth is really poor, possibly with the exception of WR. We can't afford injuries anywhere on defense and losing our best pass rusher is going to make us hard to watch this year. Sign up freeney but to me he replaces Barnes as a situational pass rusher. I think we'll be doing a lot of rotation on our defense to try confuse offenses.
If the o-line holds up our offense will be good but they're goin to have to try use up the clock and dictate the tempo of the game so that our defense doesn't get exposed through tiredness

I think TT should have more bodies, looking at the roster we still dont have enough bodies.

Safety we have two players + Gilchrist.
DT we have one Vet and two undrafted players.

For example he has four QBs but yet lacks bodies in these positions.

I think he can be questioned on that, Corey Lynch should of been brought back or Jammer. One year deal isn't going to hurt.

    Pros outweigh the cons.

I agree with OAOB that time management will probably be huge this year, under Norv during the good times it was 50 yards bombs from Rivers and our defence was back on the field.
To have good time management we have to have a good run offence.

Yeah I'm surprised that Jammer has not been picked up by anyone yet. You'd think he'd be happy to come back to SD for a vet min type deal and maybe be tried out at safety with the knowledge that he could fill in at corner in an emergency. Ref safety I guess with Stuckey and this UDFA Addae, and Taylor to return, they probably think they are covered there. But 1 more injury and you are looking outside again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

Jammer won't get picked up by anyone until Charles woodson does, he's a better Jammer who has played safety.

I think telesco is determined to get the roster age down so unless a starter gets injured he won't sign established names.

Signing Freeney is a no brainer move now that Ingram is done for the year. The one benefit about the injury is that it happened so early in the year that there was still good FA options

I'm delighted he went. Keep having a laugh at himself like that and he'll fit in just fine.

That's great about Manti, once he starts laying people out that girlfriend BS should blur into the distance. Hope he brought yer wan home F me she's too perfect to be real surely!!. Melanie Collins phhhoooooaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr.

Agree on Freeney. He almost automatically becomes 'the man' on D in terms of pass rush. Full of experience and pass rush skills, perhaps he can even teach Larry et al a thing or 2. Just hope he holds up physically.

For more of Melanie scroll down on this page, your'e welcome.
