Lewan getting graded above Matthews, not Joeckel. I think Clowney only had 2 plays a tacklefor loss on a run and the annihilation of the Michigan back to cause a fumble.

I know it's CBS but it's a quick review. If what they are claiming about Lewan not messing up on the fumble play then he did really well. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/rob-rang/21483627/clowney-vs-lewan-lives-up-to-the-hype

Mathews will be staying in school, and I think its a good decision.

For the Chargers there is 3 guys Fisher, Lewan and L. Johnson.

Eric Fisher would be my pick, recently though unless OT is a top 5 pick tackles from been poor, exception being 2009 draft.

Yeah just read about Matthews there now. Fisher it is then!

Yep son/nephew? of Bruce is staying in school. By all accounts Joeckel will be first off the board. That guard from Alabama (Warmack?) apparently put on a show last nite, could he be our new Dielman. I'm not sold on Lewan. I have seen little of him but did watch most of the bowl game. Whatever about Clowney when Lewan got to the second level he was poor and this was supposed to be a strong part of his game. Would the knock on Fisher be that he played at a lesser level no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭Justin10

Lewan and Fisher imo are level. Some GMs will love Fisher some Lewan and others a totally different guy.

The small school I dont think will be a problem as long as his combine workouts and his footwork are solid.

Espn saying we only have 8.7 in cap space. Looks a lot more realistic than the fan post

Hey could you post a link to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭Justin10

Just seen the article from my understanding is that the difference with the fans post and this is that 8M would be our cap if the roster stayed exactly the same while the fan lncluded cuts and resigning. Not sure though.

What your guys opinions on head coaching and GM rumours?

If Raye is the guy then fair enough after Spanos interviewing so many good quality candidates.

Sorry on phone so cant do links.

Gamble is themost intriguing of the 3. Acee says could be an appointment today

Gamble is my favourite he got interviewed today.

Doubt he gets the job after postponing the first interview.

So Tom Telesco is the pick. Surprised with it as i was sure Raye would get it but have to say i really liked how the Chargers approached the search so not going to complain at all.
Lets just go get a HC now, no time for rest Mr. Telesco:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

Happy enough with Telesco and I hear Lewan is going back to school too. Gil Brandt says Warmack is best player in the draft but won't go as early as he should because he is a guard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

Warmack might be the best guard prospect going and will probably become a pro-bowl/all-pro guard but at the same time teams will pass on him as its a position that can be filled later in the draft.
I'd be pissed if we drafted him, he'd be an upgrade but picking where we are we need to get value and top rated guards can be found in round 2 but top rated tackles can't be. It's unlucky for him but thats just the way it is. Some team will get a bargain around the 20th pick

With Lewan and Matthews going back to school the Tackle prospects have taken a hit. Are any of the Tackles left standing worth the number 11 pick valuewise? (assuming Joeckel is long gone).

I'm not sure there is. We might be better taking someone like Milliner instead and going Tackle in round 2.

I thought matthews was changing his mind again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭Justin10

We only have one maybe two options with our pick and that is Fisher or Matthews. Sports pages reporting on the draft recently when you google him seem to indicate he will be in the draft.

Problem is we don't know how Telesco will approach the draft, he may like moving around like New England or like AJ Smith never really trades back.

If we do trade back we could pick up Warmack, or we could just take a really exciting player at 11. I think Fisher will be there at 11 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

If we took Warmack then we either wouldn't re-sign Vasquez or Troutman is surplus to requirements already. Warmack would be great but think we all agree Tackle is our biggest need. Matthews entering the draft would help us a lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭Justin10

Exactly we have a lot of options, we could break the bank for Long, but I highly doubt that with a new GM, or maybe that is what Spanos would like is a big name signing to get bums on seats.

If Matthews does enter the draft we take a tackle at our spot, if he doesn't and Fisher is gone, I think we have to trade back or take a corner or safety.

Maybe we resign Vasquez and show Green the door? I like the idea of us taking Warford in the second round. Apparently he's a bit of a road grader. Would love to see someone in the Mike Iupati mould blocking for us.

I half agree! I remember last year thinking that if we got deCastro in the first round (not thinking that Ingram would fall all the way to us) I would be happy. Potential pro-bowler or not, with the probability of any player suffering a season ending injury, I don't think you can spend that high a pick on a position of such relative unimportance. That being said, we might be glad to nab him in a nightmare scenario where all the quality tackles, corners and rush linebackers are gone. Above all else we need to get ourselves a blue chip player, and preferably not a DE/NT IMHO.

Looks like Matthews has confirmed again (yesterday) that he's going back to school. If Fisher is there at 11 do we take him?, is he worth that high a pick?, could we trade back and still get him?

After trading back a few spots, if we then lost out on him do we take someone like Milliner or Warmack?, like Ronny says how nice would it be to get a real strong guard like Warford in round 2?

Telesco was there when Indy took 2 O linemen 1 and 2 in 2011 so at least he has been there before!.

Yep he could be..., here's a mock I like from

    http://nfltraderumors.co/2013-nfl-mock-draft/

I forgot about Cooper, he's another beast at Guard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

Do we need to take a guard? If we re-sign Vasquez and then let a camp battle take place between Troutman, Green, Dombrowski and whoever else wants to try then i don't think it's too high a priority this year. We could maybe even try Molk there.
Personally i'd rather take 2 Tackles before we take a Guard, think we'd be able to shore up the line a bit better by doing that.
I hadn't heard Milliner as a top 10 pick but if the top rated Tackles are gone by the 11th pick then maybe we grab him. It all really depends on what Telesco decides to do with Cason

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭Justin10

Telesco said in an interview that he wont reach to fill needs. If the player on his board matches the need then he will select him.

I think the more I look at the draft now the more it looks like we take a corner and then an O linemen.

Even Clary might be a better Guard than he is a Tackle (not v hard I hear you say). To answer your question No we need a Tackle far more than a Guard but were the Tackles to be gone a proper road grading beast of a Guard would be nice. The guy might bring a new attitude to the O line room and weed out the country club BS.

But if you said to me Warmack or Milliner... that's a tough one. I'd probably go with with Milliner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

Been thinking about it and if we let Cason go and the elite Tackles are gone then Milliner would be the obvious pick.
I like Warmack as a player but i think Guard is a long way down our priority list in the 1st or 2nd round. The more i think about it the more i like the idea of drafting 2Tackles high, Rivers is great at keeping his eyes down the field and doing this also allows him to see the pocket collapse in the centre. From what i could see Rivers big problem is he doesn't see edge rushers coming and this is what has led to so many sack fumbles this year,. If we could secure both edges better he'd be a lot more comfortable in the pocket and hopefully get back to his old self. As it stands Clary doesn't give up a terrible amount of sacks but he forces rushed throws and pressures constantly, need to get him off the line.
A new attitude is needed on the line but i think a new coach is too, poor personnel was a problem last year but i think they were badly coached too. I've also lost a lot of trust in Hardwick, he's not playing at the level he used to but he hasn't had the good supporting cast he used to

Wow... Bradley from Seattle was interviewed last nite for HC job. Telesco working fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭OAOB

So Telesco as GM and McCoy as HC. Mt initial thoughts is that I'm happy about McCoy, he seems like the type of guy that will fix Rivers. As an opposing OC he should also have a good idea of Pagano and whether he wants to keep him around
