That's not how the normal Irish person would look at it!

Dunno. I would prefer Garda squads to have a decent spec cars even if that would cost more for tax payer.
I would sleep way better knowing if in emergency situation a Garda squad is rushing to my location in something like Volvo v70 T5 and not in mondeo 1.6.

There are things where you can save money and there are things where you can't. Emergency services and police should not be touched or cut in that way.

I couldnt agree more with this point.
In my area, there is a garda yaris and garda fiesta.
I asked the local guard are either of them tuned in any way and he just laughed!
In an emergency situation where every second counts, what good are those in comparison to a decently powered car, or if you sped by a guard doing a spped check in that yaris, sure you could just keep going he'd never catch you!! :p

That's a whole different ball game though.

    Our media are clearly bored.

Lets say the Gardai kit out all their Operational vehicles as 530D's at a good cost to the state.

Comissioner Gordon has two options open to him.

    1. Use the bored media to highlight the savings being made by uniforming the Garda fleet with good performance vehicles and the safety for officers overall.

    2. Do nothing and let the bitching sniping and speculation start when Joe gets smoked by the 5er on a Donut run down the M1.

And start registering cars outside of Dublin too !

It's been going around the emergency services forums too about BMW offering the best tender but for PR reason the guards went with Ford/Toyota.

There is a marked up 530d on trial with Traffic around Dublin at the moment but not for long.

That was cheap mileage dependent. Could be a money pit at the same time.

It's ridiculous though. At least once a day on the M1 somebody will slam on behind me and slip in behind because its a D Reg Avensis.

Considering the state run the show there's nothing stopping slapping an RN Reg or LK onto a mondeo.... Maybe they're just worried about re sale :pac:

Were you in a D reg avensis this morning?

Don't think so? I do believe you might have been behind me when I stopped at the lights instead of before them to avoid a box junction, and there was a big scowl on your face?

Or were you in the bus lane?

I never really notice other cars/drivers tbh, another alfa fan that I chat to on another forum was waving at me like a lunatic one day and I was oblivious

As a non face to face communication, that has really given me images I'd rather not have? Never thought the written word would make me shudder.

Great evening of motoring this evening. Got lots of polishing/paint correction/detailing done and now the back of the 159 is beading like there's no tomorrow.

Also driving down Orwell Road earlier and some guy is tailgaiting me (I HATE when people do this) so as I slowed to go over a ramp, the driver in a Golf TDI, decides to overtake (in a 50km/h zone ). I let him pass but he didn't see the ramp and crashed over it. His entire rear bumper was ripped off and was barely hanging on. He was forced to pull in and see the damage.

I drove home in a very relaxed, humoured manner. :pac:

I hate tailgaters with a vengeance especially if you are doing the limit, and they are up your ass flashing and being arseholes on continuous single line roads :(

    Yusssss!

Had someone do this to me on the bike yesterday, but it was worse, in between two speed ramps on a very tight stretch of road where there's room enough for 2 cars to pass, but not much else. Cycling in between the two ramps, this young one in a mondeo decides to over take...with an oncoming car approaching, and a speed ramp. She nearly killed me.
